Use this guide to get started with the installation for IBM InfoSphere Foundation Tools.

Product overview
IBM InfoSphere Foundation Tools help organizations profile, model, define and govern their information. With InfoSphere Foundation Tools, organizations can inventory existing information assets and design their information infrastructure to build trusted information across the enterprise. InfoSphere Foundation Tools, Version 8.1.2, includes updates to InfoSphere Business Glossary, InfoSphere Fast Track, InfoSphere Metadata Workbench, InfoSphere Information Analyzer, InfoSphere Information Analyzer Exception Manager (InfoSphere Validator), and the InfoSphere Information Server common platform. Step 1: Access your software


InfoSphere Foundation Tools, Version 8.1.2, is provided on the media and from IBM Passport Advantage. To download your product, go to www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=14&uid=swg24024984.

Step 2: Evaluate the system requirements


You install InfoSphere Foundation Tools as an update to InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1. The supported hardware and operating systems for InfoSphere Foundation Tools, Version 8.1.2, are the same as for InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1. For details, see www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=14 &uid=swg21315971. Ensure that your system meets those requirements before you begin installation. You must install InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1, before you install InfoSphere Foundation Tools, Version 8.1.2. Step 3: Review the installation architecture


Review the architecture for your installation of InfoSphere Information Server. InfoSphere Foundation Tools includes updates to all tiers. The following diagram shows an installation that is distributed across three computers. Documentation The Information Analyzer Exception Manager (InfoSphere Validator) Installation Guide and Release Notes are on the same media as the installation program. The rest of the product documentation is on the Documentation and Quick Start Guides media, on the IBM Web site, and installed as Help from the product interface.
