2012 Battle of the Bands Call-Out Meeting Tuesday, December 13, 2011 Thanks to everyone for showing interest in Roncallis Battle of the Bands! We welcome any genre of music and any type of band. As long as its a performance of both live instrumentation and live vocals, youre eligible to audition! For students looking to join/form a band, or bands looking to add members, Mr. Costello will have a bulletin board in 002 for people to post musicians wanted or musicians available requests in an effort to help form more bands. FORMAT CHANGE Unlike previous years, we are asking bands to prepare 2 songs: one of their choice (can be a cover or original) AND one that was written in the 1970s (any genre)

Depending on the number of accepted bands, we might be able to have bands play 2 songs each. And so well require bands to audition with both songs. We are also considering a 2-round set-up where all bands would play one song each, and then a few bands would move on to the final round, where they would play their 2nd song. But this will depend again on how many bands are accepted into the battle. The Battle of the Bands will only have one winner, chosen by some combination of crowd response as well as a panel of students (and possibly staff).

A few more details: Students may only audition for 1 act. Bands must be at least 50% Roncalli students Bands must be 100% high school students Songs must be no longer than 5 minutes in length. Depending on the level of audition forms turned in, not all acts are guaranteed spots in the show. Cuts may be required. While a few student council members will assist in reviewing audition tapes, Mr. Costello will make the final decisions. Performances must be appropriate and in accordance with the Roncalli High School handbook and guidelines for behavior. o Costuming/wardrobe o Lyrical content/context o Dance/performance o Etc. Any questions, concerns, or judgment calls should be directed to Mr. Costello BEFORE audition tape is made, as an inappropriate audition will likely result in exclusion from the battle.
Equipment We learned many lessons the past few years. And lesson #1 is that in order for your band to sound your best in the auditorium, the sound and lighting crew must have complete control of all aspects of the noise, because they understand the acoustics of the auditorium. Therefore, we will be asking participants to share amps, drum kits, etc. Roncallis sound crew will mic your amps and instruments, and they will control the volume. This will ensure that you sound your best. More on this once the bands have been selected!
