Prerequisite:
CRITICAL: Please remove any pre-existing Anti Virus products before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 1. Click the START button. 2. Select CONTROL PANEL. 3. In Control Panel, click ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. 4. Locate Anti-Virus application and click UNINSTALL. 5. RESTART your computer. Verify Operating System (32-bit or 64-bit): 1. Right click on My Computer, click Properties 2. Under General tab, it does not say 64-bit OS, it is 32-bit Operating System. NOTE: Local administration rights are required on the computer to install this product.

Install Symantec Endpoint Protection:


1. Go to http://www.law.harvard.edu/about/administration/its/students/sponsored/antivirus.html 2. Depending on your Operating System, click on the Install Symantec Endpoint Protection 32-bit (Windows XP / Vista) link or Install Symantec Endpoint Protection 64-bit (Windows XP / Vista) 3. In the resulting window, click Save and save the file to your desktop. 4. Right-click on the downloaded sav3.zip file and choose to Extract All. 5. In the resulting window, click the Extract button. 6. Once extracted, open the SAV folder in the extracted sav3 folder. 7. Double-click Setup.exe. 8. Installation will happen seamlessly. You may see the mouse flicker as you work. 9. If prompted, click Close on the Old Virus Definition File window. 10. Restart your computer.

Configure Symantec Endpoint Protection:


1. 2. 3. 4. Double click on the Symantec Shield in the bottom-right of the System Tray. Click Continue at the permissions prompt (if applicable). Click on Change Settings (on the left pane) In the Change Settings window: a. Click Configure Settings next to Antivirus and Antispyware Protection b. Click on File System Auto-Protect tab and click Advance button and configure the windows as follows and click OK.

NOTE: For those computers which have Mobile Armor Disk Encryption installed, continue with c. If not, please go on to the next step: c. Click on File System Auto-Protect tab and click Centralized Exceptions button and add the following Security Risk Exceptions i. Extensions: ost pst ii. File /Folders:

5. In the Change Settings window: a. Click Configure Settings next to Client Management b. Click Schedule Updates tab c. Change the frequency and time to when your computer is mostly powered on. d. Select Keep trying for (in hours) and select the hours most suitable for you. e. Click OK

Updating Definitions Manually:


There may be times when you may need to update definitions manually. For example, immediately after a definition for a new virus has been released and you do not want to wait for the scheduled update. 1. Double click on the Symantec Shield in the System Tray. 2. Click LIVE UPDATE
