The correct answer is (C) data mining. The reasons for why data mining is the correct answer and the other answers are incorrect are described as follows:

a. Sequential processing: Sequential processing is a term used to describe the processing that occurs in the order that it is received. It processes items in a collection of data according to some specified sequence of keys, in contrast to serial processing. So, this occurs when data or instructions processed sequentially, in the same order as they are accessed. It doesnt search for identifiable patterns of data. That is why answer number a is incorrect.

b. data warehousing: A data warehouse (DW) is a database used for reporting. The data is uploaded from the operational systems for reporting. The data may pass through an operational data store for additional operations before it is used in the DW for reporting. This definition of the data warehouse focuses on data storage. The main source of the data is cleaned, transformed, catalogued and made available for use by managers and other business professionals for data mining, online analytical processing etc. The main purpose of data warehousing is storing data, not searching. So, this answer is incorrect too.

d. real-time processing: Data processing that appears to take place, or actually takes place, instantaneously upon data entry or receipt of a command. In a real time processing, there is a continual input, process and output of data. Data has to be processed in a small stipulated time period (real time), otherwise it will create problems for the system. For example: assembly line robots and radar system, ATM machine, online chatting. Real-time processing processes data instantly, it doesnt spend much time in finding identifiable data patterns. So this answer should be incorrect too.

c. data mining: Data Mining is the process of searching data within the data warehouse for identifiable patterns that can be used to predict future behavior. Data processing using sophisticated data search capabilities and statistical algorithms to discover patterns and correlations in large pre-existing databases; a way to discover new meaning in data.

Data mining is the process in which there is analysis of data form different angle and perspectives and summarizing the same data into the

relevant information. This kind of information could be utilized to increase the revenue, cutting the costs or both. So, data mining searches for identifiable patterns of data to organize, prepare and process them. According to the question- the process of searching identifiable patterns of data is called-, the correct answer will be (C) Data mining.
