1. General
The Artemis control software consists of two parts, one is the actual control software that communicates with the Artemis MK5 and one human interface called Control Panel software Together they allows for full control over the Artemis MK5 Positioning unit.
Communication between the Artemis unit and the Control Panel software is through a network connection. The Artemis MK5 Network software package (Network Controller) communicates with the Artemis MK5 and passes on messages to and from the CONTROL PANEL software. It also generate the serial output messages. A number of serial outputs are available and are identical to the Artemis MK IV system. In fact the Control software is the communication center between the user and the Artemis unit. Both the Control and Control Panel software runs on a standard PC with a network connection and together they fully control the Artemis MK5 unit. The Control Panel software is based on the Extended Operating Panel (EOP) as used with the Artemis MK4. Important information can be found on the main display that is visible at all time. The Controller panel software can run on multiple computers system to allow monitoring from different places. However, full control is allowed from one system, the master system. We suggest to have maximum five control panels active at the same time. A row of buttons controls the most important functions of the Artemis unit. Continues information about azimuth and distance keeps the operator up to date with the status of the position.
Page 1-1
Page 2-2
The IP number of the HMI Computer must be in the range of 192.168.44.200 to 192.168.44.254
In the Network setup of your Windows Operating System you need to attach a TCP/IP protocol to the network adapter and setup the IP numbers. See windows manual or help file on doing this.
If other IP numbers are used the operator needs to change the network setup in the controller software.
Page 3-4
For changing the network settings select the Communications menu item. This will display the following menu:
This menu allows the user to select the communication protocol between the Artemis and the Network Controller. Earlier Artemis MK5 models can only use the Standard Network protocol and are fitted with an PC-104 interface. The latest Artemis MK5 models uses the Advanced Network for network control or RS422 when this option is installed. The choice Network or RS422 is next to the software selection also depending on the hardware connection on the UTP circuit. THE RS422 IS OPTIONAL IS CAN ONLY BE USED WHEN THIS OPTION IS PURCHASED. The option is protected with a software dongle fitted on the motherboard.
When the Standard Network menu item is checked (ticked) the user can press the Communication Setup menu item and the setup dialog for this protocol will appear.
When the Advanced Network menu item is checked (ticked) the user can press the Communication Setup menu item and the setup dialog for this protocol will appear.
Page 3-5
When the RS422 communication is selected the RS232/422 dialog menu can be selected . The RS422 option allows for longer distances between the Artemis MK5 and the HMI.
The settings are saved each time the software is shutdown. Under normal operation the controller should run continuously.

3.3. Simulation
From on version 1.6.3 a simulation tab is included in the Network Program. In this set up it is possible to set the MK5 Network program in Simulation Mode. Using the simulation mode it is possible to Lock with the control program to a counter station, the system will than simulate a real lock. Azimuth, Heading, Range and Signal will be shown in the control panel. The Network can be set as Mobile, Fix or Beacon. The Control Program must be set as counter station. Frequency and Address can be changed to simulate. When the simulation is enabled the Artemis control program can be locked against the counter (Network) station. In to do that the antenna, controlled from the control program, be aligned to the counter station which is 180 degrees opposite of the start azimuth setting. A distance can be sailed by setting the far range and a stop range. A selectable speed will decrease the range which is send to the control program.
When setting the simulation setting a warning is given which must be accepted.
Page 3-7
Page 4-8
Page 5-1
Autosearch is the adviced mode to work in, the unit will automatic search for the counter station in the pre-set sector and will lock to the counter. When loosing the lock the unit will start to search automatically by scanning slowly around the last lock position and slowly increase the scan until it reaches the set scan sector. Auto search works on the when the unit is in Operate mode !

5.4.2. Basic
The basic setup allows for setting up the Artemis and enter values for the frequency pair and address code. Station Mode This field configures the Artemis in a MK4 or MK5 unit. This is required when the counter station is of a different type as the present setting. Please note that no MK3 station are supported. Frequency Pair The frequency to be used is set here. To operate a system the unit and the counter system must be set to the same frequency pair. Address Code Each Artemis unit has a address code, a fix station or beacon system is normally in standby until it receives a address code identical to the one it is set for. The range of addresses between an Artemis MKIV and MK5 station are different as indicated in the display. Antenna Movement This setting allows for changing the antenna position and enter a offset for the antenna bearing in the mobile mode. This way the user can align the antenna to bow or aft of the vessel.
Scan Limits A scan sector can be set were the antenna will scan when it losses lock and is in the autosearch mode. The limits can be entered numerical for both left and right scan-limit. A graphical display will show the entered scan-limits, the green area indicated the sector which will be scanned. The settings can also be set relative to the antenna by turning the antenna left or right using the left/right buttons. Enter the most left or right settings by pressing set cur as left or set cur as right. Every setup page has a green/red indicator that shows if the setup has been changed by the user. When the indicator is green nothing has changed and red indicates the setup has to be send to the Artemis. By pressing this indicator the changed values are send to the controller, the controller will take care of the changed setup and send it to the Artemis unit.

5.4.3. Advanced
In the advanced setup the user can change the more special parameters from the Artemis unit.
Figure 51 Station Type this indicates how the Artemis unit is configured. It can be changed to: Fix, Mobile and Beacon. TX Power Mode this indicates the transmit mode. It can be changed to: Normal, Reduced or Automatic. The default setting is Automatic. Reference Azimuth this setup allows for basic setup of your fix station where you have to set your reference azimuth of your station. Enable Gyro Compensation this will activate or deactivate the gyro compensation on a fix station.
Enable Remote Control This will activate or deactivate the remote control possibility of the counter station.
Enable Auto Recovery The auto recovery enables the Artemis to start in the same mode as it was operational before switching off or power loss. This mode is recommended! Enter Azimuth This value will added to the received azimuth from the fix station in order to correct for a error in the Azimuth reading. Reference Azimuth / Bearing Enter the bearing/azimuth to align the antenna to a reference point. De-Icing When activating De-Icing the heating inside the Artemis antenna will be switched on. Normal Mode This servo mode is the standard mode for the Artemis.
Page 5-5
NOTE ! The following modes should not be used in normal operation. They are used for calibration and service. Open Loop, Close Loop and Simulation
Open and Close loop changes the working of the servo drive and tracking performance and should not be used unless directed by a service engineer. Simulation activates the Demo mode of the Artemis and generates simulated values.
Every setup page has a green/red indicator that shows if the setup has been changed by the user. When the indicator is green nothing has changed and red indicates the setup has to be send to the Artemis. The default settings for these parameters are: - Control Panel IP 192.168.249.201 - Network Controller 192.168.249.201 - Controller Port 35000 This setup is only valid when both network controller software and control panel software are installed on the same computer. This Panel is: The Control Panel must be set as a Master or Client control panel mode. Only one master panel is allowed. When the mode is changed the control panel will request the controller software if this is allowed. When there is already an existing Master Control Panel the controller software will ignore the request and changes the mode automatically to Client mode. Only when there is no other Master control panels present it is possible to select a Master Control Panel. The Master control panel is the only panel that is allowed to change or control the Artemis station, other control panels can only listen in. Automatic Boot The automatic boot option will make sure that the control panel will automatically connects to the controller software when it starts up, else the manual boot button has to be pressed. User Settings Each Control Panel configuration can be saved and a new can be opened, this can be used to make user defined settings for each vessel or operator. Every setup page has a green/red indicator that shows if the setup has been changed by the user.
