Readjusting the fit and working out the kinks.
By Sabrina Marie Herring

I was once told, in order to succeed you must plan your success route. Hmm, now as a twenty something year old, I ponder of the statement and justiably argue, a persons route to success is everchanging; similar to a road trip, even if planned, there are still room for detours. So then the question stands, how will I be successful then while still understanding detours are sure to come? Simple, get focused and clear a path that will ensure your success. I remember being bombarded with deadlines at work, behind on laundry at home, all while trying to plan my next vacation getaway that I was desperately in need of, and in that moment of despair, I realized I was truly unhappy, unsatised and under accomplished, I knew just like an old dress that pulls at the zipper, I needed to readjust my t. My position and t in life was not taking me to the ultimate place I desired to be. I was not yet sure of what that place meant for me, but I was certain my current state was not it. I knew the rst step, which apparently was the hardest step for me was to start. But how? I needed to get focused. I started with a handy pen and paper. I wrote everything down on paper that I ever wanted,

desired, did not want and did not desire. I had to see it all written down. And I mean write it down...everything! I like sewing, I want a restaurant one day, I am good at listening to people, etc. Whatever will help you organize your thoughts, reprioritize your actions and claim a new life that ts and works for your ultimate success. So I focused on writing my inner thoughts, aspirations and want out, I was de-cluttering my life. I had decided if I was doing or working towards something in my present that was not aligned with my ultimate aspirations that I had written down, I was wasting my time and energy, and I needed to stop. I needed to readjust the t and begin to work towards my goals. Readjust your lifes t and work out the kinks so that you can become the BEST YOU. I am not advising you quit your job tomorrow if it is not in your life plan, however, I am encouraging you to start to focus yourself on working towards those goals that you desire.

Happy New Year

R E S O L U T I O N S , G O O D F O RT U N E

& NEW HABITS

Only 8% of people are successful in achieving their resolutions. 19% achieve their resolutions every other year. 49% have infrequent success. 24% (one in four people) NEVER succeed and have failed on every resolution every year. That means that 3 out of 4 people almost never succeed.

R E S O LU T I ON S Countdown. It seems like it was just yesterday when we were all counting down to 2011, now with less then 30 days left in 2011 we all look forward to 2012 with new expectations, renewed outlooks and greater standards for the new year ahead. According to Steven Shapiro, a leader in business consulting: 3 out of 4 people will not succeed at accomplishing their new years resolutions and goals for the upcoming year. The statistics open the door for further questioning as to why are we not succeeding? What are the goals we are placing on ourselves? How can we do better for 2012? A New Years resolution can be dened as a promise a person makes for the new year. Regardless of what resolution you commit to, the goal is to improve life in the coming year. This is a form of communication one is making with themselves. Resolutions can come in many forms. Some people make a promise to change a bad habit, such as quitting smoking or eating less junk food. Other people make a promise to develop a positive habit, such as starting an exercise program, volunteering in their community or recycling more. The intentions behind the intended resolution is empowering, however, how can we do better at ensuring that we will reach our goals... 1 Plan in advance what you want to focus on, and make sure that youre excited about the goal. 2 Be specific about what youre going to do. 3 Reward yourself for taking action, but dont beat yourself up if you occasionally fall off the wagon. 4 Surround yourself with a supportive network of like-minded people. 5 Be specific on the goal and steps of action. 6 Hold yourself accountable. Facing a new year is exciting as it promises new beginnings. Famous beliefs of that was last year, that was my old habit, I put my past behind me and I am looking towards the future, are all stables in our everyday jargon that the new year renders as good conversation with a new outlook. There are many theories about the new year we are awaiting patiently, but for the most part, I loose myself of the crazy

naysayers and extremists, and I just trust in forward progression beginning a new year focused on you. Start looking for that dream job, apply to graduate school -stop putting it off, start that campaign, volunteer, but most importantly connect with yourself so that you can begin your journey to effectively communication no matter what avenue in life you choose to take. It all starts and ends with you. Your willingness to believe, and begin. I am counting down to 2012 with a renewed spirit believing in me and my voice. If you are in need of assistance in positioning yourself to set reachable, achievable, valuable resolutions catch up with us on Communicate Louder: the blog.
