BATTERIES (HOUSEHOLD)
For residents interested in recycling their household (dry cell) batteries, local recyclers can be found in the Yellow Pages under "Batteries Dry". Please be aware that there may be costs for recycling these types of batteries. Dry batteries are also accepted at IKEA for recycling. There is a North American wide program that recycles rechargeable batteries through the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). In Calgary there are hundreds of locations that will take rechargeable batteries for recycling free of charge. To find the nearest rechargeable battery collection site nearest you visit the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) website at www.rbrc.org or call (416) 535-9210.

BOTTLE DEPOTS
SOFT DRINK, BEER, WINE, AND LIQUOR CONTAINERS All ready-to-serve beverage containers with the exception of milk products can be returned for a refund. To find the nearest Beverage Container Depots in Calgary visit the Beverage Container Manager Board website www.bcmb.ab.ca or call1-888424-7671. Domestic Beer Containers Domestic (Canadian) breweries maintain their own return system. Returns are direct to the producer (i.e., Beer Store), through Alberta Brewers Agents (ABA) Depots or by other arrangements. COMPUTERS / ELECTRONICS (end-of-life)


The City of Calgary has partnered with private industry to provide several permanent electronics recycling depots. Old (end-of-life) televisions, computer monitors, CPUs (central processing units), laptops, electronic notebooks, printers and some additional devices are accepted at locations listed below (some restrictions apply). There is no charge to deposit these items designated by the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) program. HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS
Drop off your household chemicals today, tomorrow or any day at any of our convenient drop-off depots. For your convenience, Waste & Recycling Services, along with the Calgary Fire Department, offers a total of eight year-round chemical drop-off depots. Bring your household chemicals down all year round and we'll recycle or safely dispose of your used motor oil, left-over paint and other household chemicals free of charge* at any of the three City landfills or five designated fire stations with special storage depots. (When you arrive to drop off your household chemicals please speak to the fire station staff on duty so they can properly sort and store your products.) Please make sure your household chemicals are sealed appropriately, preferably in their original containers, for the safety of our workers, your family, your neighbourhood and the environment. HOUSEHOLD GOODS
Clothing and household goods for which you have no further use do not need to be discarded. Someone else may get use from them or the materials could be utilized for anything from quilting squares to cleaning rags and pieces of art. Non-functioning appliances can be used as scrap parts for broken appliances. A number of charitable organizations collect such items as old clothes and appliances through drop-off bins and pick-up services (see below).

REFRIGERATORS, FREEZERS & OTHER COOLING UNITS


The Provincial Government has enacted regulations, which require the removal of all CFCs from appliances prior to recycling. You may take appliances containing CFCs to any of the three City of Calgary landfill sites. You will be charged $10.00 per appliance containing CFCs for CFC removal. Other charges may apply. MULTI-MATERIAL DROP-OFFS
The City of Calgary operates a residential recycling program comprised of 50 depots where glass, cans, newspaper, magazines/catalogues, plastic milk jugs, milk cartons and mixed paper/corrugated cardboard may be dropped off. Depots are located across the city and all have bins that are clearly labeled for the separate collection of recyclables.
