Asia Pacific Association of Psychology


ARTICLE I: NAME & PLACE OF PRINCIPAL OFFICE. 1. The name of this organization shall be Asia Pacific Association of Psychology. The acronym APAP may be used to refer to the Association which will be legally registered in India unless otherwise agreed upon by the founding members. ARTICLE II: PURPOSE 1. The purpose of this Psychological Association shall be to advance psychology as a science, as a profession and as a means of promoting the welfare of the people of Asia pacific region. 2. The Association will work toward achievement of its purpose by engaging in the following activities: affiliating with Similar Professional Bodies in the region or worldwide; promoting social and professional interaction with psychologists in the area; supporting the professional development of future psychologists; promoting public understanding of psychology; assisting members in the understanding of the Ethical Standards; promoting legislative and other actions that protect and enhance the profession of psychology. ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP 1. There are four classes of membership. The Council may elect: As a Fellow anyone who has rendered distinguished service to the profession . Such Fellowship shall carry the designating letters F.APAP. Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Fellow shall satisfy the Council that: (1) he has been on the Roll of APAP in the class of Member for a continuous period of at least 2 years, and (2) possesses not less than 10 years post qualification experience in the field of Psychology and holds a Masters or a doctoral degree in Psychology or related profession. as Member in the Association any person working or residing in Asia Pacific or Internationally of the

Full Members are entitled to use the designating letters M.APAP. Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Member shall satisfy the Council that: (1) he possesses not less than 04 years post qualification experience in the field of Psychology. (2) he had been continuously on the Roll of the Institute as an Associate Member for a period of at least 2 years, and as Associate in the Association any person working or residing in Asia Pacific or Internationally who is a Member in good standing of an International Association of Psychology, or a National Association of Psychology and meets the following requirements for Associate membership of APAP. persons who are holders of a Bachelors Degree in Psychology / Diploma in Psychology from an institution approved by the Council . Full Members are entitled to use the designating letters AM.APAP. Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Member shall satisfy the Council that: he possesses not less than 02 years post qualification experience in the field of Psychology. as Student Affiliate any full-time graduate student enrolled in a graduate program in Psychology at a University approved by the Council . Student Affiliates shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Association except the right to vote or to be elected to a position on the Council. 2. Any Fellow, Member, Associate, Student Affiliate of this Association may resign by sending the Secretary a signed statement indicating the intention to do so. 3. Any person may be dropped from membership in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. 4. A Member of any class may be dropped from membership or their status reviewed for conduct which tends to injure the Association or to affect adversely its reputation or which is contrary to or destructive of its purpose, but only after the Ethics Committee makes a preliminary inquiry and reports to the Council its findings and recommendations for action . ARTICLE IV: Council Members/ Board of Directors FOUNDING MEMBERS The following members are the Founding Members of this Association who shall serve for a period of three years, subject to renewal thereafter.

All Founding members will be considered Full Life Members of the APAP. Founding Members who have rendered distinguished service to the profession will be elected as Fellows during 2012. All subsequent members will be governed by membership rules contained in this constitution. ARTICLE V: COMMITTEES 1. The committees of the Association shall consist of such special committees as may be established by the Council 2. There shall be a Membership Committee appointed by the President with the approval of the Council and serving until they resign or are replaced. This Committee shall design a suitable application form, encourage eligible persons to apply for membership, review the applications received and recommend to the Council their acceptance or rejection. This Committee shall conduct an annual membership drive and publish a membership directory. 3. There shall be a Newsletter Committee which shall concern itself with such matters as communication with membership via maintenance of a newsletter and public relations, i.e., news release of APAP events and elections. 4. There shall be an Education Committee which shall concern itself with educational initiatives for members, other professionals and the broader community. 5. There shall be a Nominations and Elections Committee consisting of three members chaired by the President Elect with the approval of the Council. This Committee will conduct the nominations and elections of the Association according to the processes set forth in the Constitution. ARTICLE VI: DUES 1. When annual dues are payable, which will be determined during 2012, the Treasurer shall publish in the Newsletter an Annual Statement. 2. A late fee may be assessed members paying late. The exact amount of late fees to be assessed shall be established upon the recommendation of the Treasurer and approved by the Council. Membership shall be terminated for any person whose dues remain unpaid 60 days after the dues statement, no further notice to the member being required. ARTICLE VII: ELECTIONS After the expiry of the first three years , the Council shall make the necessary provisions for elections. Any positions falling vacant during this period may be filled by suitably qualified members as approved by the Council. ARTICLE VIII: MEETINGS Regular Council meetings may be conducted via Skype. Any Additional meetings of the Members to transact business of the Association or to present programs may be called at any time by the Secretary on the request of the President, the Council, or of any five Members of the Association. The Secretary or designated Council member shall notify all Members at least four weeks before

the date of each meeting. ARTICLE 1X : AMENDMENTS 1. Any 5 Members may submit to the Council in writing proposed amendments to this Constitution and By-Laws together with reasons for the proposed amendments. 2. After review by the Council, the Secretary shall send every Member a written copy of proposed amendments together with reasons advanced by their proponents and comments or recommendations by the Council at least two weeks before final action taken at a council meeting. 3. If a proposed amendment is voted on by mail, an affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the Members who vote on it shall be required for its passage. If a proposed amendment is voted on at a business meeting, an affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the Members present and voting shall be required for its passage. 4. This Constitution and By-Laws may be revised by the same process stipulated for amending this document. ARTICLE X: WHEN TO TAKE EFFECT This Constitution and By-Laws shall take effect with effect from 1 January 2012 and the Association will be formally declared open at the 99th Indian Science Congress to held from 3-7 January 2012 in Orissa , India.
