This document describes how to recover if you printer had a failure during a remote firmware upgrade.

Issue Description: The proceeding error may occur if you have a failure during a Remote Firmware Upgade! The hp LaserJet P3005 does not have a parallel I/O port. The following procedure explains how to upgrade the product through the USB port. Solution or Workaround: To perform an RFU upgrade over the USB port you first need to have 1) HP P3005 Printer Driver available (to establish an USB connection), and 2) have downloaded the hp LaserJet P3005 RFU upgrade package to an accessible Directory on your host computer. Both the printer driver and the firmware upgrade file may be obtained at www.hp.com under the Drivers and Upgrade section for the hp LaserJet P3005 product. Establishing a USB connection

To establish a USB connection, you must force an USB connection to the failed unit. Connect a USB cable from the printer to you computer and begin the Print Driver installation. Place the radial button in Install the software . and then click on NEXT.

Place the radial button in Install from a list or specific .. then Click on NEXT.

Place the radial button in Dont search . then Click on NEXT.

Highlight Printers then Click on NEXT.

Please Click on Have Disk!

Browse to the location where you have previously stored the Print Driver files.

Click on the appropriate print driver, in our case P3005 PCL 6, then Click on NEXT.

Click on YES to continue installing the Print Driver (e.g., forced install).

With your Print Driver loaded onto your PC get into your Printers Folder and go to the Print Driver you just installed. Right Click on the printer icon. Scroll down, and Click on Properties. Click on the Sharing Tab. Your screen should look similar to that shown to the left! Place the radial button in Share this printer, and then enter a Share Name. Click on OK.

To download a RFU file, you also need a Computer Name. You may obtain a computer name by doing the following: Get into your computers Operating Systems Control Panel and double Click on the SYSTEM icon. Then Click on the Computer Name tab. In the example to the left the computer name is ds1-evo (everything before the first period).

To download the firmware to your printer over the USB connection, first get into the DOS Operating System and enter the commands shown below: Copy Command /B Binary Mode Directory Path\Location (name) of the RFU file Computer Name\Share Name An example is shown in the illustration above.
