Basis of syllabus compilation for OM Strategies: An overview of evolution of Operation Management since industrial revolution reveals that this

field remained in background and mostly with technical personnel for obvious reasons. As for strategic business decisions were concerned, they were mostly around marketing and / or finance functions only. Of late it was discovered that to beat competition, Operations management can be used as weapon. Hence strategic decision body now includes the operation personnel also. The duration of the course is around 30 hours and the syllabus has to be broadly divided into 5 units. Keeping all this in view, the following syllabus is recommended. Unit 1 takes a look strategic operations management and introduces various concept and terminology associated with this field. Unit 2 Different types of processes, strategic importance and their impact on output Unit 3 capacity management, supply management and inventory management are interconnected and hence are kept in the same unit. Unit 4 deals with quality and innovation, an important tool to beat competition, have been kept together Unit 5 deals the most important resource Human resource. It deals with strategic importance and current trends in human resource development.
