c) There are FIVE (5) steps in resolving ethical dilemmas such as 1) moral clarity, 2) conceptual clarity, 3) informed about the facts, 4) inform about the options and 5) well-reasoned. By using this steps, resolve the problem below:

A software engineer discovers that a colleague has been downloading restricted files that contain trade secrets about a new product that the colleague is not personally involved with. He knows the colleague has been having financial problems, and he fears the colleague is planning to sell the secrets or perhaps leave the company and use them in starting up his own company. Company policy requires him to inform his supervisor, but the colleague is a close friend. Should he first talk the friend about what he is doing, or should he immediately inform his supervisor?

QUESTION 2 a) A company named BRAKEYOI S/B which supply brake components to a Car Maker AUTOYES BHD had short listed a few suppliers for supplying a cheaper alternative material provided the material is able to meet the Car Makers requirement on physical and chemical properties. After conducting material test, one potential supplier was selected and awarded contract to supply that material. BRAKEYOI S/B then developed the component with the new material and it had passed severe endurance test. The components with the new material were then mass produced. After a few months of steady supply of the components to AUTOYES BHD a fatal accident which involved a male driver had happened. The cause of accident was the failure of that brake system. After doing comprehensive failure analysis it was finally discovered that root cause of component failure was material defect due to micro porosity. Organisations should therefore aim to maximise performance in these areas in order to maximise competitiveness. How would you create a good professional responsibility in order to be a world class manufacturing organization?

QUESTION 4 A production line engineer inspects every chip for quality control (QC). His workers found defects approximately in every 150 chips. The defective chips can either be sent for repair or scrapped. Manager instructed the workers to throw away all the defective chips. The manager walks over to the engineers line and asks why company should lose more money into a defective chip. The engineer suggests allowing defective chips to be sold in market. The engineer also try to convince the manager about the company profit although the manager arguing the suggestion in terms of complaint from customers. The company can actually replace the defective chips whenever there is customers complaint. The manager then further estimates that allowing defective chips in the market will yield profit for the company. a) Discuss the ethical issue concerning the handling of defective chips. b) In case the engineer has a different opinion, suggest how could he present his case to the manager?
