Barclays Center
ASILIMITED has been selected to provide the 219,000 square feet of total building faade and enclosure of the new Barclays Center that is being developed in Brooklyn, NY. www.barclayscenter.com. This world class facility will house the current New Jersey Nets in mid 2012. The arena is the anchor development within the 4.9 billion dollar Atlantic Yards Development. ASILIMITED will be working closely with the design team includes Ellerbe Beckett and SHoP architects. SHoP is the design architect for the exterior faade. Indianapolis based Hunt Construction Group will be the construction Manager. Scope of work will be a custom designed unitized mega-wall system that will include blast resistant curtain wall, insulated weather wall and exterior weather steel lattice screen. Panels will be 10-0 in width but vary in height from 10-0 to 55-0. Unit weights can exceed 9,000 pounds. Design partner on this project is Front, Inc. Stay posted for more exciting design news. 7-29-10 Update: Project development underway and mock up for exterior weather steel lattice screen (panels). 9-16-10 Update: ASI Limited manufactured and constructed a visual mock up consisting of 10ft wide x 32ft tall mega-unit made of structurally-glazed curtainwall and painted steel lattice framing the mega unit weighed 7,300-lb. The mock-up represents an actual portion of the Atlantic Avenue bump-out at the Lower Suite level. For this mock-up the lattice panels and channels were painted to replicate the look of the weathered steel. Actual pre-weathered patina panels will be utilized on VMU2 which will be constructed and erected in Brooklyn in Dec/Jan. The mock-up gave Ownership, Design and Construction Teams the opportunity to review the systems design, constructability, and the overall aesthetics of the finished product, but also gave our Erectors the opportunity of utilizing as an actual training tool for how a real unit will be transported, rigged, and erected on site. 2-11-11 Update: Over 2,800 panels are being processed on the automated patina line. Once panels are completed, the assembly of units will begin. June-2011 Update-Visual Mock-up installed in Brooklyn. Shop assembly of units are ongoing and delivery is planned for July. July 2011-1st mega panel unit was set on July 21, 2011. October 12, 2011-Weathering steel mega units continue to wrap building
