Unit name: Balance Diet

Lesson Title Teacher: Vijay Kumar Heer,JBT,GPS Loharali,tehsil Barsar,Distt. Hamirpur(HP) Grade Level / Subject Area : EVS class 4th Time allotted for lesson: one hour Short Description of Lesson and planning parameters: It is a lesson about balance diet and its composition on neutrients.Carbohydrate, protein, vitamins, minerals, fats and sugar etc. gave been highlighted with their sorce and usage for health.The description of their value for human haealth has been highlighted by me through use of flash cards in power point presentation.The laptop is to be used in the classroom for the purpose but to support the hindi language, charts have been taken for the assistance.Bilingual work has been done for the help of students who will study science,social science and mathematics in English medium in class 6 th in the attached institution i.e. GHS Loharali,Block-Bijhari,Tehsil Barsar,Distt. Hamirpur (HP) Classroom layout and grouping of students The students will sit in a crescedental postion in the classroom to enjoy the view of laptop, charts and get participation in the group discussion to be organized during the classroom teaching and activity process. State Curriculum Standards As Himachal Pradesh School Shiksha Board and DPEP mission has prepared the textbooks , the standard of Environment Science enables us to find a relevant topic and content regarding balance diet.It is under the upscaling and ascending order from class 1st to 4th.As the introduction towards vegetables,fruits ,drinks start from class 1 st, thechildren can learn the balance diet related knowledge in the standard where we are trying to aware them about it.Mid day meal scheme in HP has also been significant in this regard where menu making is very important in perspect of neutritional needs of children.Hence,curriculum standards are satisfactory.

Instructional objectives: After discussion and demonstration over the lesson, the hildren will be able to (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) Know the meaning of balance diet Know the name of some nutrients Tell the neutrients sources Tell the importance of balance diet Tell the name of some fruits and vegetables impotant for balance diet

Materials, resources and technology

HEALTHY EATING!!!

Mathod: discussion,lecture and demonstration The teacher will introduce name of some fruits and vegetables through the demo of a cd. It will display the names of 18 fruits and 18 vegetables to them.Now,ythey will be given a chance totell the names of the fruits and vegetables which were new for them. Now, the discussion will be carrued in the group about their benefits for human health.Now, discussion will turn towards mid day meal and its value to the heath of students.When they will reach towards the concept of energy and force, teacher will direct their attention towards various cerals,fruits and vegetables which give us energy and neutrition.Now,the cocept of carbohydrates, vitamins,proteins, minerals,fats etc will be delvered as below

RICH OR HEALTHY?

They should make healthy food look and taste better, then more people will want to eat it. I think that healthy foods should be made more appealing to kids and really unhealthy foods should be made more expensive so that people don't want to waste their money on it. I think that celebrities should start advertising healthier food because lots of children copy what they do. I also think that schools should do more P.E as lots of children don't exercise when they're outside of school.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES CONTAIN MANY OF THE VITAMINS AND FIBRES WE NEED TO STAY HEALTHY.

DAIRY CONTAINS CALCIUM WHICH GIVES US STRONG BONES AND TEETH.

BUTTER SWEETS FULL FAT MILK CAKE BISCUITS CHOCOLATE FAT ETC.

NOT ALL FATS AND SUGARS ARE BAD BUT THEY NEED TO BE TAKEN IN SMALL AMOUNTS! FATS AND SUGARS GIVE THE BODY ENERGY!

IF WE EAT MORE THAN WE NEED OUR BODY CANNOT BURN ALL THE ENERGY! THIS IS WHEN WE GET FATTER!

HOW CAN WE EAT LESS FATS AND SUGARS?


Snack on dried fruit or fresh fruit Trim the fat off meat

Buy lean meat


Steam or bake rather than frying in oil Use less butter and margarine Use skimmed milk rather than full fat Avoid too much high fat fast foods

Avoid too many high sugar sweets and drinks

RATHER DRINK LOW FAT MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS

SEMI-SKIMMED OR SKIMMED MILK IS THE BEST!

RATHER HAVE DIET OR REDUCED SUGAR DRINKS

FRUIT JUICE
PURE UNSWEETENED FRUIT JUICE IS THE BEST! ALSO HAVE SOME DELICIOUS SMOOTHIES!

BREAKFAST
MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY! ALWAYS START YOUR DAY WITH A HEALTHY BREAKFAST

LUNCH
HAVE A BALANCED LUNCH AT ABOUT MIDDAY!

SNACK ON FRUIT IF YOU GET HUNGRY BETWEEN MEALS.

SUPPER/TEA
THIS SHOULD BE YOUR SMALLEST MEAL DONT EAT TOO LATE IN THE EVENING!

COULD I MAKE CHANGES TO MY WAY OF EATING TO ENSURE THAT I AM HEALTHY!!

Students' present level of performance and skills The discussion over the topic will lead them to know the value of all environmental fruits and vegetables.Presently, they are limited to the knowledge of some names of fruits ,grains,cerels and vegetables and their taste.
