Dear Prof. Harry R. Lewis, Member of Faculty Council, Dr.

Drew Faust, President, Dr Michael Smith, Dean, Dr Donald H. Pfister, Dean, Prof Claudia Goldin, Prof. Sean D. Kelly Copy to: Prof. Diana L. Eck Prof Sugata Bose Prof. Ajantha Subramanian Mary Carmichael,Boston Globe Honorable Congressman Allen West I am writing this regarding the action by the Harvard faculty of arts and sciences on Dr Subramanian Swamy's courses. It is unfortunate that Dr Swamy was not asked for his comments. This is not a good judgment on the part of Harvard University because it cannot enhance the reputation, definitely not a good practice in the interest of humanity. It also seems from the reports that faculty present at the meeting did not have much time, just half an hour to give a serious thought to the implications of their vote. There may be faculty not present at the meeting, who have strong opinions on this issue but did not have an opportunity to vote because they were not made aware of the amendment to be proposed in advance. The FREEDOM OF SPEECH is much more than individuals right to say what they want to because of its crucial role in the establishment of TRUTH and JUSTICE. It is difficult to imagine that curtailing the freedom of speech will not negatively impact the latter two. The Tenure granted to the faculty at universities is to protect that privilege while pursuing the TRUTH. I would like to request you to forward this letter and attached documents to the faculty council members to see if they think that there should be a re-voting on this issue. After all they voted unanimously to allow the courses earlier. Economics Department approved the courses. Here are the reasons why it is extremely important that Harvard faculty should re-consider their vote. Dr Swamy indicated in the TV interview that some of the views in his article were expressed earlier by Dr Ambedkar, principal architect of the Indian Constitution. So it is important for the faculty to look at the writings of Dr Ambedkar for the sake of country and humanity. These issues are as relevant to US as to India. Please read the "Excerpts from the book by Dr Ambedkar " (attachment) Dr Ambedkar comes from Dalit Community in India. He therefore did not need lessons on 'hate' from any one including the faculty members who led the drive to drop Dr Swamy's courses. He

is a graduate of Columbia university, a practicing lawyer and principal architect of the Indian constitution. He examined islam from religious, political and military points of view in his book. He had the responsibility and the expertise. Hecharacterizesislamandmuslimsin apreciselanguageleavingnoroomforambiguity. Truth or pursuit of it should never become a victim of personal or political agenda. That is what gives a University good reputation. Search of Truth is the true responsibility of faculty. Quotes: 1 The realist must take note of the fact that the Musalmans look upon the Hindus as Kaffirs, who deserve more to be exterminated than protected.

2 It is doubtful how far a regiment of Musalmans will accept the authority of their Hindu officers if they be placed under them. 3 Taking note of all these considerations, there can be very little doubt that he would be a bold Hindu who would say that in any invasion by Muslim countries, the Muslims in the Indian Army would be loyal and that there is no danger of their going over to the invader. 4

" In another way also a Mohammedan may really have more than four wives, and yet keep within the law. This is by means of living with concubines, which the Koran expressly permits. In that sura which allows four wives, the words are added, ' of the slaves which ye shall have acquired.' Then in the 70th suru. it is revealed that it is no sin to live with slaves. The very words are: ' The slaves which their right hands possess, as to them they shall be blameless.' At the present day, as in days past, in multitudes of Mohamedan homes, slaves are found; as Muir says, in his Life of Mahomet ' so long as this unlimited permission of living with their female slaves continues, it cannot be expected that there will be any hearty attempt to put a stop to slavery in Mohamedan countries.' Thus the Koran, in this matter of slavery, is the enemy of the mankind. And women, as usual, are the greater sufferers.'

5 " The only allegiance a Musalman, whether civilian or soldier, whether living under a Muslim or under a non-Muslim administration, is commanded by the Koran to acknowledge is his allegiance to God, to his Prophet and to those in authority from among the Musalmans chief among the last mentioned being of course that Prophet's successor or commander of the faithful.. This doctrine of unity is not a mathematical formula elaborated by abstruse thinkers but a work-a-day belief of every Musalman learned or unlettered... Musalmans have before this also and elsewhere too, lived in peaceful subjection to non-Muslim administrations. But the unalterable rule is and has always been that as Musalmans they can obey only such laws and orders issued by their secular rulers as do not involve disobedience to the commandments of God who in the expressive language of the Holy Koran is ' the all-ruling ruler '. These very clear and rigidly definite limits of obedience are not laid down with regard to the authority of non-Muslim administration only. On the contrary they are of universal application and can neither be enlarged nor reduced in any case. " This must make anyone wishing for a stable government very apprehensive. But this is nothing to the Muslim tenets which prescribe when a country is a motherland to the Muslim and when it is not.

How far will Muslims obey the authority of a government manned and controlled by the Hindus ? The answer to this question need not call for much inquiry. To the Muslims a Hindu is a Kaffir. 72[f.28] A Kaffir is not worthy of respect. He is low-born and without status. That is why a country which is ruled by a Kaffir is Dar-ul-Harb to a Musalman. Given this, no further evidence seems to be necessary to prove that the Muslims will not obey a Hindu government. The basic feelings of deference and sympathy, which predispose persons to obey the authority of government, do not simply exist. But if proof is wanted, there is no dearth of it. It is so abundant that the problem is what to tender and what to omit.

Comment [f.1]: The Hindus have no right to feel hurt at being called Kaffirs. They call the Muslims Mlechaspersons not fit to associate with.

7 Islam is a close corporation and the distinction that it makes between Muslims and non-Muslims is a very real, very positive and very alienating distinction. The brotherhood of Islam is not the universal brotherhood of man. It is brotherhood of Muslims for Muslims only. There is a fraternity but its benefit is confined to those within that corporation. For those who are outside the corporation, there is nothing but contempt and enmity.

8 ..because the allegiance of a Muslim does not rest on his domicile in the country which is his but on the faith to which he belongs.

9 The examination of the circumstances of these numerous riots and affrays shows that they originated either in utterly petty and trivial disputes between individuals, as, for example, between a Hindu shopkeeper and a Mahomedan customer, or else, the immediate cause of trouble was the celebration of some religious festival or the playing of music by Hindu processionists in the neighbourhood of Mahomedan places of worship.

10 The third thing that is noticeable is the adoption by the Muslims of the
7

gangster's method in politics. The riots are a sufficient indication that gangsterism has become a settled part of their strategy in politics.

11 This policy of appeasement will involve the Hindus in the same fearful situation in which the Allies found themselves as a result of the policy of appeasement which they adopted towards Hitler.

Islam Schools - Published Reports 1 Washington times reports: Nearly one-third of Muslim college students in Britain support killing in the name of religion, while 40 percent want to live under Islamic law, according to a secret cable from the U.S. Embassy in London that reviewed public polling data and government population predictions. A survey of 600 Islamic and 800 non-Islamic students at 30 universities found that 32 percent of the Muslims believed in religious killing, while only 2 percent of non-Muslim students felt religious murder was justified, the cable said, referring to a poll conducted by the Center for Social Cohesion. The embassy cable, released by the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, said the same survey revealed that 54 percent of Muslim students want to be represented by an Islamic-based political party. The poll also showed that 40 percent of Muslim students endorse Islamic, or Shariah, law, which can impose the death penalty for religious heresy and adultery, often by stoning, or the amputation of hands for theft.

2 New York Times reports: One of the textbooks, according to the BBC program, prescribed execution as the penalty for gay sex, and outlined differing viewpoints as to whether death should be by stoning, immolation by fire or throwing offenders off a cliff. Another set out the punishments prescribed by Shariah law for theft, including amputation of hands and feet. A BBC video accompanying an article on the programs Web site showed a textbook illustration of a hand and a foot marked to show where amputations should be made. 3 U.S. government report Washington: Text books in Pakistani schools foster hatred and intolerance of minorities, the Hindus in particular and teachers view these groups "as enemies of Islam," a U.S. government report has said.

4. Dacca: A judicial commission Dacca: A judicial commission has concluded that over 200 Hindu women were raped following the 2001 parliamentary election, forcing many terrorized families to flee the country.
