English Comprehens ion

Familiarity with English Language in its various nuances is an

essential skill, especiallyin the current climate of global networking. Ideally, any recruitment should involve a testof skills in handling the Language in ways that promote

the objectives of a company andestablish desired rapport. Needless to state, an appropriate test is necessary.Our English Test uses a variety of internationally

standardized resources for framingquestions aimed at determining the candidates ability to understand (a) the written text(b) the spoken word and (c)

communicate effectively through written documents. The testbroadly covers the following areas:1. A wide-ranging Vocabulary to cope with general

and specific terminology2. Syntax and sentence structure, the incorrect use of which distorts meaning andbecomes a communication hurdle.3.

Comprehension exercises designed to test a candidates ability to read fluently andunderstand correctly.4. The ability to understand and use suitable

phrases, which enrich the meaning of what,is conveyed.5. Time management and accuracy in conformity with the examiners criteria.

Quantitative Ability
The Quantitative Ability assesses the ability of the candidate in the following twoaspects:a.

Basic understanding of numbers and applications This section tests whether the candidate has understanding of basic numbersystem,

i.e., fractions, decimals, negative, positive, odd, even numbers, rationalnumbers, etc. The candidate should know how to do basic operations on

thesenumbers, understand concepts of factors/divisibility and have good practice onalgebra.Apart from operations on numbers, the candidate should

know how to convert arealworld problem into equations, which could be solved to find an unknownquantity. The candidate is tested on Word Problems

representing variousscenarios to assess the same.b. Analytical/Engin eering Maths These are aspects of mathematics needed for Engineering

disciplines and analysisof data. This includes permutationcombination, probability and understanding of logarithms.

Logical Ability
The logical ability section assesses capacity of an individual to interpret thingsobjectively, to be able to

perceive and interpret trends to make generalizations and beable to analyze assumptions behind an argument/stateme nt. These abilities

are primaryfor success of a candidate in the industry. Specifically, these are divided into followingsections: a. Deductive Reasoning

: Assesses the ability to synthesize information and deriveconclusions. b. Inductive Reasoning : Assesses the ability to learn by

example, imitation or hit-and-trial. This also provides an indication of how creative the individual is.c. Abductive Reasoning : Assesses the critical thinking

ability of an individual to seethrough loopholes in an argument or group of statements.All these abilities are tested both using numerical and verbal stimuli.

Coachable questionshave been identified and removed.

Computer Programmin g Principles

and Application
The Computer Programming Principles and Algorithms Module evaluate the suitabilityof the candidate in

the software industry. It not only tests the knowledge and applicationof basic constructs of programming, but also concepts of data structures, algorithmanalysis

and objectorientedprogramming.The test is languageindependent and all programming questions use a pseudocode.Significant effort has been

made to exclude memory-based and rote-learning questions.The test contains questions on debugging programs, finding the output of programs,completi ng incomplete

programs, finding complexity of algorithms, questions onimplementation and operations on different data structures, etc.The test contains the

following sections: A. Structure and constructs of Computer Programs 1. Programming flow, Procedures, Functions and

Arguments, Methods2. Data-types, how data is stored in computers, input/outpu, manipulation, methodsof referencing and assessing data

(including pointers).3. Iteration, decisionmaking, recursions4. Algorithm Complexity: Space and time Complexity,

Asymptotic Notation5. Compilation, Linking and Execution; debugging, kinds of errors. B. Datastructures and

Basics Algorithms 1. Data Storage Methods: Linked lists, Arrays, Queues, Stacks, Trees, Heaps, Hashtables, graphs; Stress on

which data structure to use for a given application2. Data retrieval, Insertion of new data, merging of data from two data structures 3.

Data search and sorting, Methods of array sorting and trade-off C. Object Oriented Programming Concepts 1.

Classes, objects and methods2. Data Encapsulation, Data hiding, Inheritance3. Polymorphism, Overloading, Abstraction

Electronics and Semiconduct or

The Electronics and Semiconductor test assesses the suitability of the

candidate for theSOC, Embedded Systems, VLSI design, etc. companies. This test together with that of Programming assesses suitability

of candidate for EDA companies. The test has thefollowing sections: A. Analog Electronics 1.

Basic Components, their operations and Circuit Analysis : Resistor, Capacitor,Inductor , Independent and Dependent Sources; Kirchoff

Law, series/parallelcom bination, use of Thevenin/Norton, Superposition theorems; Energy and PowerConsiderati on in circuits2.

Active Components, Large, Small Signal and Circuit Analysis : Diodes, BJT,MOSFET, Opamps Basics; Amplifiers, Current Sources;

Gain Analysis of Circuits, Inputoutput impedance, cascading of circuits. (Stress MOSFETS)3. Frequency domain and time domain analysis of systems,

Feedback andStability : Frequency domain (Laplace) representation of components, Impulseand Sinusoidal steady state response of systems; time

constant, Initial Conditions;Freque ncy domain response; Bode plot; Poles and Zeros; Analysis of transistor/mosbased, RLC circuits, Oscillators, Filter

realizations andidentification4. Opamp based circuits and analysis: Gain Stabilization of opamp usingfeedback; Integrator, differentiator,

Computer Literacy
In the current scenario, knowing how to use the computer is essential for all professions.This module

specifically assesses the suitability of candidates for the ITeS sector,Customer Support positions, Data Entry positions, Content Writers,

Journalists,Market ing/Sales, etc.The basic thrust of the module is not to test theoretical computer concepts, but testwhether the candidate recognizes

different parts of the computer and knows how to usethe computer for day-to-day tasks such as word processing, using the Internet, makingpresentatio ns, etc. The test

also assesses whether the candidate has experience indebugging problems in computer hardware/operatio ns and whether he/she knows how
