We are hopeful that Bangladesh will get rid of the curse of poverty very soon. But we have a long runway to traverse for garments sector. The RMG sector, one of the most powerful private sectors developing area has got a tremendous role to play in the economic development of Bangladesh. RMG export was only 0.001 percent in 1976 but in 2002 it rose to 77 percent of the total export. RMG got quota and duty free access in USA and EU countries up to 2004. Now the question is; what is the present position of our RMG sector in the competitive business environment. The major contents of this study include the issues relating problems of RMG, Textile, Backward linkage industries and many other problems related to industries development in Bangladesh. This study also attempts to draw a clear but brief picture of the problems and prospects of the garments sector in Bangladesh.
