Notes From The Principal

Happy New Year!! I hope that each of you had a safe and restful holiday. Hard to believe that this six weeks is almost over and that we are half-way through the school year. I always find that no matter how fast the year seems to be passing by, the second half goes even faster, so hang on. We are seeing more and more visible action from last years bond election. The new turf on the practice field should be finished in February and construction on the activity center should begin in March. The technology infrastructure for a more robust wireless network is being installed and committees are meeting to determine what kinds of technology will be purchased for student classroom use. While each of these bring about their own set of interim issues and growing pains that will continue to test our flexibility, they are very exciting and we look forward to their completion over the next couple of years. I am very excited to announce that Trina Hughes has been named the 2011-2012 Trinity High School Teacher of the Year. Trina has been at Trinity for 19 years. She teaches Anatomy and Physiology and is also one of our athletic trainers. Trina is a huge asset to Trinity in both the classroom and in athletics. She is very deserving of this honor. I hope the second half of the year is a success for you and your students. Please continue to stay involved, encourage good attendance, and keep those communication lines open. If I can be of any assistance, please dont hesitate to contact me. Thanks, Mike

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the time off with loved ones. Its always my favorite time of year, but so difficult to come back afterwards. Hard to believe the first half of the school year is almost finished, and its already January! This is the time of year when the PTA has to get ready to start thinking about planning for next years board. That means we will be needing a nominating committee to help select candidates for the election in the spring. If you are interested in helping out in a very critical, but brief capacity, please consider serving on this committee. We need 3-5 members to serve. Along those lines, if you are interested in serving on next years PTA board, or just have questions, please be sure to contact me to see which positions are open. Were always looking for new members, so no experience is necessary! Its a great way to stay informed and involved, and most positions do not require you to be available during the day. Please consider making an investment in your childs life by serving on the PTA. THS PTA will be working at the Clothes Closet on Wednesday, January 11th and Friday, January 13th from 10am-2pm, both days. If youre free, we would love to have you come help out either, or both, days! This wonderful group helps out the students and families of HEBISD, and they could use lots of help sorting and folding the clothes they receive through donations. Any time you have to lend a hand would be much appreciated, so dont think you have to stay the whole time. We still have the Book Swap Coordinator position to fill. This will be taking place in March, so please consider helping us out! It is a short, two-week commitment, and can be split between two people if necessary. Contact me at 817-354-3222 or freebear@sbcglobal.net for more details. Lastly, I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to our faculty Thanksmas luncheon in December. There were so many wonderful desserts, and everyone was thrilled with the outcome! We truly appreciate the support THS parents are always so willing to give to our outstanding faculty and staff! Best wishes for a wonderful and successful 2012!
Linda Y. Grady THS PTA President

COUNSELING NEWS:
Is an Advanced Placement (AP) test in your future? Students in B sections of any AP class and single tri AP classes (Ex: Government) will be signing up to take the exams this month. There will also be an informational parent meeting in the auditorium on January 31 at 6 p.m. to address questions about the AP exam process. Sophomore TIP meetings continue with the new year! The approximate 30 minute meetings with student, counselor and parent(s) include transcript evaluation, schedule review, planning for junior and senior courses, testing and college and career strategizing. JUNIORS: Have you signed up for an SAT or ACT exam for the spring? If youre college bound, the tests (or at least one of them) should be in your immediate future plans. If qualifying for a fee waiver (free or reduced lunch), you must use the waiver BEFORE registration deadlines. Parent night for juniors will be on January 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The agenda will include registering for senior classes (which will begin this month) and plans beyond high school graduation. A PSAT meeting at 7 p.m. (will immediately follow the junior meeting) and will include discussion on how to interpret scores and prepare for the SAT. SENIORS: Are you finalizing college applications, scholarship searches/applications and checking with your counselor to make sure youre on track to graduate? When was the last time you requested an unofficial copy of your transcript and checked it to make sure everything was in order and ready to go in May? The purple transcript request forms are on the front desk in the Counseling building lobby. Please see Mrs. Quintana at the desk with questions! TUTORING IN LIBRARY: Do you realize there is FREE tutoring in the library after school every Monday afternoon? Honor society students and teachers are waiting for YOU to show up and get help so grab that Geometry and Chemistry homework thats ruining your social life and make your way to the library next Monday. Dont let the trimester get away from you! ABSENCES AND CATCHING UP: Have you missed school recently? It is the students responsibility to get missed work and assignments from teachers so plan to do that NOW before the six weeks mark. PSAT: If you recently took the PSAT, log into www.collegeboard.com with your code and read all about the opportunities awaiting you! See Mr. Thompson or Mr. Durapau if you have questions. AS ALWAYS: Check our Counseling website page for all of the latest happenings, events, needed documents, Student of the Month and MORE!

The Trinity High School Polynesian Club was busy in December. We performed a few holiday songs for the teacher luncheon on December 14th while our Polynesian dancing ladies performed for the HEB Hospitals Volunteer luncheon at the Hurst Conference Center. We will be performing at the Hurst Hills Heritage Night on January 31st and for the TYAT Meeting on February 28th. We invite all the families to come and see these wonderful groups perform and learn more about the upcoming STARS tests requirements for your students. Dr. Tribble will be in attendance to explain all of the new requirements on February 28th. Dont miss this wonderful performance and critically important information for your students!

TRINITY A CAPPELLA CHOIR TO PERFORM AT TMEA!

As you may be aware, the 2011-2012 Trinity High School A Cappella Choir has been selected as one of only three Honor Mixed Choirs to perform at this years state Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio. Each year, hundreds of choral CDs containing the previous two years of UIL music are submitted from Texas choral directors to the vocal chairman of TMEA. A committee of judges evaluate each anonymously labeled CD and the selection of TMEA performance groups is made. The selection of the Trinity A Cappella Choir this year is the biggest honor we can achieve as a group and many would consider it our equivalency of winning the state championship in football. We understand that a trip to San Antonio is not feasible for most of you, but would like to invite th you to our Pre-TMEA Concert in the Trinity HS Auditorium on February 5 at 3:00 p.m. At this concert, you will hear the exact performance we will be doing a week later at TMEA. In addition, we will be joined by the Central JH Varsity Womens choir who was selected as an Honor Choir for the South West American Choral Directors Association Convention in March. (The concert is only an hour long, and you will be home in plenty of time for the Super-Bowl!)

TRINITY HS CHOIR PRE-TMEA CONCERT THS AUDITORIUM SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH 3:00 PM ADMISSION IS FREE In addition, we are very proud to announce that three of our students are advancing to the area round of all-state. Please congratulate them and wish them luck as they head into this process. They began this process in late summer among nearly 18,000 other students across the state and only a few hundred remain. The final audition is January 7th in Midland, Texas. Good Luck! Kendall Dean Soprano 2, 1st chair Adiba Mobin Alto 1, 5th chair Landon Morris Bass 2, 1st Alternate Thank you so much for your continued support of the fine arts in our district and at Trinity HS. We are very excited for this extremely rare and special opportunity and hope you will come support our program at our Pre-TMEA concert February 5th. Trinity Choirs

The Honors Anatomy & Physiology classes would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Thompson for making us a new Lab Coat rack when our other one imploded during our recent lab. We so appreciate our supportive parents here at Trinity High School. Youre the reason we succeed! Thank you so much for your help!
