Introduction
1.1 Meditation
Meditation refers to any of the family of practices in which the practitioner trains his/her mind or self-induces a mode of consciousness in order to realize some benefit. Meditation is nothing but a time when you can relax utterly into yourself. When you close all your doors, all your senses to outside stimulus, you disappear from the world, you forget the world as if it exists no more. You are alone in your innermost being relaxed at home in these moments all that become accumulated is assimilated that which is worthless is thrown out. Meditation promotes human excellence and all that is good loving, caring and sharing in a human being, it expands a person viewpoint from the small to the large finite ti infinite, from the individual to the cosmic. Dhyan : Dhyan as a technique, a process of conceptsation that is reaching a mind state dhyan is the discovery of ones inner self. It is the integration of the body, mind, intelligence, will, ego, consciousness and self. When the powers of the intellect and the heart and harmonically blended, it is Dhyan. It is self learning process which systematically teaches man to search for the divinity within yourself with thoroughness and efficiency. It helps him unravel himself from the ecternal body to the self within. Dhyan brings calmness and tranquility and prepares one for the absolute surrender to god in which the individual spirit (JIVATMA) merges into the universal spirit (PARMATMA) and becomes one. The essence distilled from practicing dhyan is the spiritual awakening of the sadhak. Meditation in a western context :: Meditation in its modern sense refers to yogic meditation that originated in India. In the late 19th cent, theosophists adopted the word meditation to refer to various spiritual practices drawn from Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and other eastern religions. Thus the English word meditation does not exclusively translate to any single term or concept, and can be used to translate words such as the Sanskrit Dhyana, Samadhi and Bhavana. The physical aspect of what is called yoga in recent years, the asanas, has been much popularized in the west, and devoted celebrity to the increased visibility of the practice. Physically, the practice of asanas is considered to : Improve flexibility Improve strength Improve balance Reduce stress and anxiety Reduce symptoms of lower back pain Be beneficial for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Increase energy and decrease fatigue Improve physical health and quality of life measures in the elderly Improve diabetes management Reduce sleep disturbances Reduce hypertension & metaphysical body.
