But thats just about all it shares with its predecessor. Because everything else is new, from the body panels outside to the coffee maker inside. to make a long story short, we can simply state that the new volvo 9900 is a purpose-built tourist coach in every single detail. generous interior dimensions, high-class seats, a sloping window line, large glass panels and sloping theatre floor are just some of the main features. the power, driving comfort and ergonomic drivers compartment are others. at the same time, the volvo 9900 shows clearly that it is a volvo in every respect. the harmonious design language is a consistent theme both outside and in. and the same naturally also goes for the safety level. the new volvo 9900 contains several volvo-unique innovations that raise safety on board to entirely new levels. now its time for you to get to know our latest pride and joy. an exterior tHat Promotes exPeCtations With smooth surfaces, clean lines and a clear volvo character, the volvo 9900 radiates powerful elegance from the very first glance. and an interior tHat meets tHem. inside, the volvo 9900 offers a comfortable aura of tasteful comfort, with every single detail matched to create a harmonious whole. volvos designers have produced eight different interior colour themes, with the roof, walls, floor, drapes and seat upholstery matching one another in light or dark shades. the passenger seats naturally offer the very highest comfort level, each equipped with a table, footrest, net pocket and handle and featuring a wide range of adjustments. all so as to meet your passengers individual requirements for maximum comfort. a low noise level, generous space and roomy interior make the volvo 9900 the perfect travel experience on the move. thanks to electronically controlled air suspension with independent front suspension and a rigid frame design, comfort is boosted still further irrespective of whether tHe route takes in twisting mountain roads or fast motorways.

Being able to relax in comfort in the company of your favourite author, listen to good music or watch the latest movie. all while the wheels turn smoothly, bringing you ever closer to your destination. When we developed the new volvo 9900, we focused on looking at the journey through the passengers eyes. Weve identified what it is that persuades the passenger to regard the coach trip not as a means of transport but as an important and valuable part of the overall experience, as a particularly civilised way of seeing the world.

steP uP to neW HeigHts. as soon as you step in through the separate drivers door, youll note that the volvo 9900 is something special. the interior is harmonious and well-matched. the air-suspended, rotating and heated drivers seat offers excellent comfort and can naturally be adjusted to provide a relaxing, individually tailored position behind the wheel. the redesigned instrument panel is elegantly curved around the drivers seat. the instruments themselves are easy to overview with a clear, large display for driver information positioned centrally in the main instrument binnacle. all the controls are logically grouped, positioned within convenient reach. large windows and mirrors with integrated close-quarter mirrors provide perfect visibility all round. the climate in the drivers compartment is controlled separately so you always have a pleasant working temperature. With a powerful defroster you can quickly and effectively remove mist and moisture from the inside of the windscreen. Power window lifts, electrically operated sun visors and a navigation system are also included in the standard specification, and there is plenty of space for personal belongings.

volvo First WitH FuPs in Buses and CoaCHes. in a frontal collision between a bus and a passenger car, it is the occupants of the car that suffer the greatest risk of injury. in order to improve their safety, the volvo 9900 is equipped with FuPs (Front underrun Protection system). the underrun protection system consists of a steel beam fitted behind the bumper that prevents the car from becoming wedged under the coach. in a collision, it absorbs the cars impact energy while at the same time giving under the impact and allowing itself to deform to lessen the force of the impact. volvo is the first vehicle manufacturer to fit this type of underrun protection system to buses and coaches.

environmentally oPtimised. the volvo 9900 is certified for euro 4. the 420 hp variant is also available in an incentive version for euro 5, which will come into force within the eu in 2009. By after-treating the exhaust gases with sCr (selective Catalytic reduction) the nitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour. the technology is simple and reliable, and has the huge advantage of being able to meet forthcoming emission requirements with particularly good fuel economy.

unique volvo ProteCtion For driver and guide. the drivers seat in the volvo 9900 comes with an integrated three-point seat belt. in order to improve safety for the driver and guide still further, volvo has introduced Front impact Protection (FiP) and knee impact Protection the first manufacturer to do so. the former is a frontal collision protection system that absorbs and diverts impact forces in the event of a frontal collision. knee impact Protection reduces the risk of injury to the drivers knees and legs in a frontal collision. it consists of energy-absorbing panels positioned at knee height behind the instrument panel. in an impact where the drivers knees strike the instrument panel, the kinetic energy is absorbed by the impact panels which crumple gently and in a controlled manner to minimise injury.
