LM-80-08 Test Result Summary

Tables 1 and 2 summarize the LM-80 test results under various test conditions. Reference reports are ORB Optronix reports LEDN002-01-040 and LEDN002-02-040. Two aspects of the test results are lumen maintenance and chromaticity shift. Lumen maintenance is the luminous flux output at any selected elapsed operating time. It is a measure of how well a light source maintains its lumen output over time, typically shown as a percentage of initial light output. In general, 70% lumen maintenance is close to the threshold at which the human eye can detect a reduction in light output and is widely used as minimum lumen maintenance criteria. In addition to lumen degradation, the chromaticity of light will shift with time, which is expressed by chromaticity coordinates such as (u, v). Duv is defined as the closest distance from the Planckian locus on the (u, 2/3v) diagram. Table 1: LZ4 Warm White LED emitters Case Life Testing Avg. (2) Chromaticity Shift Duv

IES LM-80-08 specifies that chromaticity shift at each read-out should be reported with luminous flux data. Figures 4 and 5 show the chromaticity shift with time for both LZ4 and LZC warm white emitters. It is obvious from the data that Duv for each types of emitters tested up to 6000 hours are well below the EPA/Energy Star limit of 0.007. 0.010 55C 0.008 Energy Star Duv limit: 0.007 Chromaticity Shift, Du'v' 0.006 85C 95C

L70 Life Prediction

Using an industry standard exponential decay model, L70 life for LZC warm white emitters driven at 700 mA and o case temperature of 85 C, is projected to be at approximate 85,000 hours, as shown in Figure 6. Under a lower drive current and case temperature, L70 life time will be improved. There is no lumen degradation upto 6000 hrs of testing for LZ4 white emitters. The lumen maintenance life of LZ4 and LZC emitters will be significantly improved when used in a lower driven current and a lower case temperature.

Summary
This document describes the LM-80-08 lumen maintenance and color stability results based on testing data from EPA recognized third party labs. Up to 6000 hours of testing, LZ4 emitters do not show any lumen degradation and o LZC emitters show slight lumen degradation at case temperature of 85 C or higher. Applying an exponential decay o model on 6000 hours of testing data, the L70 life for LZC emitters running at case temperature lower than 85 C is over 85,000 hours. In addition, chromaticity shift for both type of emitters are well below EPA/ENERGY STAR limit of 0.007 under the specified test conditions. LED Engins product is designed to achieve robust lumen maintenance of greater than 70% on average after 50,000 hours or higher when used in accordance with published guidelines.
