My role and title was Office Manager/R.N . I managed two of the six Retina Group of Washington offices in the greater met ropolitan area, one in Fairfax and one in Alexandria. The two offices that I man aged account for nearly half of the total revenue of the organization. I was res ponsible for the day to day activities. My role involved hiring, training, and d isciplining of all staff, and assuring accuracy in all areas of the practice. I

was heavily involved with QA, patient complaints and their resolutions. I partic ipated in the education of clients in the diseases of the eye, scheduling surger ies, updating staff on changes in insurance requirements and the billing process es. I was responsible for maintaining employee files. I was the resource person for employee injuries and illnesses. On a daily basis, I visited physician practices, hospitals, financial planners, insurance carriers, and others to market our services. In addition, I was respo nsible for effective intake, education, and coordination of home health services in a five county region (Prince William, Fairfax, Stafford, Fauquier, and Loudo un). My duties include coordinating the care of patients between providers, hosp itals, nursing homes and our agency, health fairs, and education of the communit y. HealthWays Family Medical Centers of the Mid-Atlan tic Region is credentialed by twenty-three insurance plans. HealthWays purchases physicians practices and, in turn, employs the physicians and their staffs. A S ite Supervisor is sent to train and manage these offices. I was the Site Supervi sor for the locations in Manassas, VA. and in Silver Spring, MD. Previously, I w as Site Supervisor at the facility in Fredericksburg, VA. I supervised all staff , worked as a team player with the physicians, and ensured that the organization al goals were obtained. I was also in charge of the QA, UR, UM program for the M id-Atlantic Region (Falls Church office). My responsibilities involve all areas of the practice including filling in for s taff absence with direct patient care to upkeep of the physical environment. Although I had been employed with Aetna Professional Manageme nt for less than two years, within the first 12 months I received a Heros award for my efforts. My QA, UR, UM responsibilities involve chart audits, patient satisfaction follow -up, insurance and capitation reimbursement, hospital and referral utilization f or seven sites. I also served as acting OB/GYN clinical coordinator, as well. My responsibilities involved meeting organizational goals as well as managing a st aff of 13 R.N.s, 2 L.P.N.s, 10 Clinic Assistants, 3 PARCs, and 2 clerical staff. I was responsible for scheduling, which was coordinated with providers and supp ort staff, budget, managing FTEs, developing and implementing efficient systems, QA&I activities, coaching/disciplining staff, in-services, leading team meeting

s, and performing direct patient care when the situation warranted. I participat ed in Operations Meetings for the Woodbridge Center. I represented Kaiser Perman ente in various community activities such as: Board Member of the Primary Pediat rics Council of Prince William County for Children, and other region sponsored a ctivities. I made suggestions for additional (ad hoc) software for the computers which was implemented region-wide. As a Clinical Coordinator, I was responsible for the total operation of the Pedi atric and OB/GYN Clinics. July 1993 Baileys Health Center (PHP Healthcare Corporation) to May 1994 5827 Columbia Pike, Falls Church, VA 22041 My title was Clinical Manager/Project Manager of a primary care clinic for indig ent patients. This clinic was operated by PHP Healthcare Corporation under a con tract from Fairfax County. Although my responsibility was to PHP Healthcare Corp oration, I developed and successfully utilized many diplomatic skills in ensurin g that Baileys Health Center enjoyed the support and cooperation of the Fairfax County Health Department while simultaneously turning Baileys Health Center from a minimally productive activity for PHP Healthcare into one of its most success ful centers. I was responsible for all operations, budget, billing, and staffing at all levels: M.D.s, P.A.s, N.P.s, M.A.s, etc. I handled all problems that aro se. Our patient load range was 80-100 per day. This was a multi-cultural communi ty; most (80%) patients did not speak English. Oct. 1990 NAVCARE Jacksonville (PHP Healthcare Corporation) to July 1993 #60 Highway 24 East, Midway Park, NC 28544 My title was Charge Nurse/Alternate Project Manager of a busy primary care clini c for military dependents and retirees. We cared for 350-400 patients a day. I m anaged a staff of 45. I handled all problems that arose involving conflicts betw een doctors, patients, or employees. I became very experienced in all aspects of clinic management from physical plant maintenance, electrical and alarm systems , IBM computer operations, to nursing functions such as emergency cases, heavy i nvolvement in QA/UR, streamlining the patient flow, assisting with JCAHO Accredi tation. My collateral duties were to credential all staff, interviewing prospec tive employees, verifying references, completing paperwork for new employees, an d orientation for new employees (R.N., L.V.N., M.A.). On a daily basis I performed assessment and evaluation of staff, which included disciplining when necessary. I developed new ways to help our clinic function at its optimal level. We were J CAHO Accredited with Honors in 1991. I utilized my skills on a daily basis in such widely varied activities as interp ersonal communication skills, patient teaching, EKGs, respiratory treatments, in tramuscular and subcutaneous injections, ear lavages, IV therapy, vital signs, a nd computer skills. During this time of my employment, I was asked to consult at a facility in Colum bus, GA. The contract at the Columbus facility had been revised and I spent seve ral weeks evaluating, developing, and training the Columbus staff in new procedu res consistent with the contract. I received two PHP Pride Awards; one for my contributions toward obtaining JCAHO accreditation and the other for my contributions at the Columbus, GA facility. Sept. 1988 NAVCARE Oceanside (PHP Healthcare Corporation) to Oct. 1990 Tri-City Plaza, 1840 West Drive, Vista, CA 92083 As of July 1990, I was promoted to Director of Nursing, I resigned my position w hen my husband received military orders. I worked as the Charge Nurse since begi nning my employment, I acted as the Director of Nursing in times of vacation and illness until my promotion. My duties included maintaining overall efficiency of the clinic. I opened and cl osed the clinic, which entailed: disarming/arming the alarm system, bringing up/ shutting down Datastat and Primaq computers, counting narcotics, running I & E r

eports, preparing rooms for patient care, preparing all equipment for use, asses sing daily quality assurance measures, consulting with M.D.s, mid-levels, Milita ry liaison, HBA, and Radiology as necessary, daily scheduling of staff and relat ed problems, triaging patients as well as prioritizing emergency conditions, sup ervising all staff, directing patient care, counseling staff members on problem areas, orientation of new staff (R.N., L.V.N., M.A.), a resource person for all staff, and effectively dealing with difficult patients. I was involved daily with QA issues such as, chart reviews, immunization reviews , growth chart plotting reviews, and recovery of moneys lost due to exceeding a two-hour turnaround time. I assisted with preparation of charts and clinic for b oth JCAHO visits. I prepared QA meeting minutes, made monthly contributions, and distributed them to all pertinent staff. My interest in staff development assisted me in giving in-services, orienting ne w staff, providing one-on-one instructions, identifying problem areas with staff and counseling accordingly. I was proficient at providing both verbal and writt en direction. Also, I directed emergency drills such as code and fire, to better prepare staff for such events. My collateral duty consisted of developing and implementing the Infection Contro l policies and procedures at our clinic. I have developed the policies and proce dures according to PHP policies, JCAHO, and OSHA requirements. The major program has been directed at daily, weekly, and monthly evaluation of our performance t o comply with the requirements established. I have issued memoranda to staff in regards to: measles outbreak and requirements for MMR, immunization schedule upd ate, informed consent and research for Hepatitis B Vaccine, handwashing techniqu e, incubation periods for chickenpox, blood spillage, use of isolation room, and proper disinfecting of rooms. I implemented a follow-up system for abnormal lab results and, also, followed up with phone calls to ill patients. As the Relief Supervisor (Charge Nurse), I performed all duties my Director of Nursing perform ed without difficulty. As Charge Nurse, I performed direct patient care with a c ensus of 200 to 250 patients per day. Dec. 1987 Fallbrook Hospital District to Sept. 1988 Fallbrook, California I worked as a Staff Nurse who floated to medical-surgical unit, intensive care u nit, and emergency room unit. I supervised nursing assistants (4) and L.V.N.s (3 -5). I also implemented the nursing process for direct patient care.
