DEFINITIONS A. Panel: That area of pavement bound by a longitudinal and transverse joint.

1.5

SUBMITTALS A. All submittals required in Section 03055 1. Mix design trial batch requirements to include flexural strength. 2. Meet the requirements of this Section, Part 2. Portland Cement Concrete Pavement texturing plan. Refer to Section 02752. A written plan for approval, 14 calendar days before concrete placement, showing proper attention will be given to ingredients, production methods, handling, placing, protection, and curing to prevent excessive concrete temperatures and water evaporation that could impair strength, integrity or serviceability of the concrete. Refer to ACI 305R-99 Verification that the batch plant meets the requirements of the UDOT Quality Management Plan for Ready-Mix Concrete.

B. C.

D. 1.6

ACCEPTANCE A. B. Acceptance is in accordance with UDOT Minimum Sampling and Testing Requirements, Section 03055. Acceptance criteria for compressive strength are detailed in Section 03055. 1. Retesting by coring thin pavement is not allowed. Thickness 1. Stringline grade before placement to ensure specified thickness. PRODUCTS

C.

PART 2 2.1

CONCRETE A. Use AA(AE) concrete in accordance with 03055 1. Meet a 28-day flexural strength of 650 psi verified through trial batch.

2.

B. 2.2

Use Fibrous Concrete Reinforcement a. Provide fibers that are 100 percent virgin polypropylene, fibrillated, rough textured, interconnected containing no reprocessed olefin materials, and specifically manufactured as concrete reinforcement. b. Provide graded fibers with a maximum length of 2 inches. c. Use fibers at the rate of 3 lb/yd3. Refer to project limitations for accelerated strength gain requirements.

CONCRETE CURING COMPOUND A. Refer to Section 03390. EXECUTION

PART 3 3.1

BATCHING MATERIALS A. Meet AASHTO M 157

3.2

CYLINDER STORAGE DEVICE A. Refer to Section 03055.

3.3

PREPARATION A. Mill the existing surface according to the requirements of Section 02961. 1. Mill to the lines and grades shown in the plans. 2. Verify the uniform depth and cross slope before any concrete pavement is placed. Remove and replace any deteriorated asphalt material with Hot Mix Asphalt according to the requirements of Section 02741. Install traffic signal loop detectors according to details in Plans. Before concrete placement, clean the milled surface of loose material, dirt, and foreign objects, using compressed air. Surface must be clean and free of any standing water before placing any concrete pavement.

B. C. D. E. 3.4

PLACING CONCRETE A. Match existing profile or meet line and grade as shown on the plans.

B. 3.5

Use vibratory screed equipment.

FINISHING/TEXTURING REQUIREMENTS A. Meet the requirements of the approved texturing plan.

3.6

CURING A. Refer to the requirements for Portland Cement Concrete Pavement of Section 03390. 1. Apply in one application at a rate of 100 ft2/gal.

3.7

PROTECTION A. B. Refer to 02752 Do not open any section to traffic until 4,000 psi is reached or as directed by the Engineer. Verify strength by either: 1. Maturity method: Refer to AASHTO M 325 2. Field-cured cylinders

3.8

JOINTS A. B. Construct contact joints, sawed joints, or transverse expansion joints as shown on the plans. Longitudinal contact joints: 1. Do not allow the finished surface across longitudinal contact joints to deviate from a straight line by more than 1/8 inch in 10 ft when tested with a straight edge. 2. Shut down operations until specified tolerances are achieved if the edge slump requirements are not satisfied. Construct sawed joints. 1. Single cut all transverse and longitudinal joints (1/8 inch wide) to one third the depth of the design pavement thickness (T/3). 2. Begin sawing immediately after the concrete has sufficiently hardened and before uncontrolled cracking occurs. a. Conduct continuous sawing operations during both day and night regardless of weather conditions. b. Provide lighting during nighttime sawing. 3. Thoroughly clean joints of all loose debris, cement powder, etc., with compressed air at 100 psi minimum pressure. 4. Match joints in adjacent lanes.

3.9

DEFECTIVE PAVEMENT PANELS A. B. Engineer determines defective panels within 21 calendar days after placement. Repair or replace defective pavement panels at no additional cost to the Department. 1. Complete repairs before acceptance testing for smoothness. Remove and replace panels when multiple full depth cracks separate the panel into three or more pieces. Use methods that do not disturb or damage adjacent pavement.

C. D. 3.10

SMOOTHNESS TESTING A. Test pavement surface for smoothness as the work progresses 1. Accept in lots equal to the number of square yards placed each day. Meet the requirements of Section 01452 for Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, Class II Surfaces.

B. 3.11

PROJECT CONDITIONS/LIMITATIONS A. Refer to Section 02752. END OF SECTION
