AconvenientthingaboutbeingPrimeMinisterofCanadaisthathandlerscanarrangeaCBC primetimeinterviewandbeconfidentthatregardlessofhowbanalthequestionsandhow preposteroustheanswerstheeventwillbedutifullyspuntothegullibleascredible. ThePrimeMinisterwithastraightfacetoldPeterMansbridgeinanexclusiveCBCinterview thatIranfrightenshim.Claimingitwas"beyonddispute"thatIranisdevelopingnuclear weaponsbecauseIraniansarereligiousfanaticsandpreparedwithouthesitationtousesuch weaponstoachievereligiousorpoliticalpurposes. 1 PeterMansbrigelethimgetawaywith thatracistandbizarrecanard. IfonemissedwhoPrimeMinisterHarperwasreferringtoonemighthaveconcludedhewas talking about Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, far right US Republican presidential candidates, all of whom proudly proclaim their religious fanaticism and state theirreadinesstobombIranwithourwithoutCongressionalapproval. 2 ThePrimeMinistersrightwingUSRepublicanpoliticalkinaspiretobePresidentoftheonly countryintheworldthathaseverusednuclearweaponsoncivilianpopulations,maintains hundredsofnuclearweaponsonhairtriggerstandbyandcandeliverthemanywhereonthe planetviaaglobalsatellitesystemofdeliveryinterconnectedwithabout800militarybases andnuclearequippedfleets,oneofwhichcruisesnearthecoastalwatersofIran.Boththe USandNATOmaintainapreemptivefirststrikenucleardoctrine. PrimeMinisterHarper,toutedasanastutepoliticianandpromotedashavinginternational credentials,simplyavoidsaddressingthepossibilitythattheIraniangovernmentmayhavea legitimate concern about the threat posed by the USA to its vital security, economic interests,itssovereigntyanditsrighttosellitsoiltowhomeveritwishes. Prime Minister Harper believes such a right only accrues to Canada. Sounding downright patrioticthePrimeMinisterassertedinhisinterviewwithMansbridgethatCanadawillnot tolerateUSinterferenceinthegovernmentsplanstofacilitatetheexportofAlbertaoilto Asian markets via theGateway pipeline andremarked caustically that US environmentalist interferencewastantamounttoconsideringCanadaasanationalpark.Onewouldhave thought given such a defense of Canadian sovereignty that the Prime Minister would

Massive USNATO retaliatory power ranged against Iran is comforting to the PrimeMinistersadoringphilistinecirclethatbelievesMahmoudAhmadinejadifnotdeposed inanotherNATOregimechangewarwillforceCanadianstoconverttoIslam,stealallRRSP savings,banTimHortonsandcompeltheTorontoMapleLeafstorelocatetoTehran.What elsecanonesayexcepttoridiculethePrimeMinistersludicrousdoublestandard? PrimeMinisterHarperismakingitallupforhisfans.Heissimplyattemptingonceagainto prepare the Canadian people for another G7NATO war, again against an oil rich Middle EasternstatethatposesnothreattoCanadaoritspeople. PrimeMinisterHarperisrecklessintheextremeinhisstatements.StandingbesidePresident Obama in Washington last December he said in his usual unctuous style that US enemies cannotbefriendsofCanada. WheredoesthatputtheCanadianpeopleifthePrimeMinisterdecidesatBrusselsandnotin ParliamenttoonceagainpropelthecountryintoanotherNATOregimechangewarthistime withIran? Whataresometherealities? ThepeopleofIranaredependenton80%oftheircountrysrevenuefromoilexports,20%of whichgoestotheEU,450,000barrelsadaytoItaly,GreeceandSpainallmembersofNATO, all ostensibly Canadas allies. One wonders why Peter Mansbridge, a media icon, wasnt astuteenoughtoaskwhoitisthatPrimeMinisterHarperconsultswithinsecretaboutawar on Iran? Does it include Spain, Italy and Greece all NATO members and allies and all dependentonIranianoil?ArethesecountriesmiredinanEUfinancialcrisis,preparedtogo to war with Iran and if they arent and oppose a USNATO attack on Iran because it will endangertheiroilimports,willtheybecomeCanadasenemies? OnewonderswhattheItalianCanadian,SpanishCanadianandGreekCanadiancommunities willsayaboutaNATOwarthatendangerstheoilsuppliesoftheirhomelands? The foreign policy of the Harper Conservative government is not a Canadian policy it is a NATO war policy. Prime Minister Harpers Conservative government has no peace policy.

TheNATOwarpolicyisbasedonalongstandingUSimperialiststrategytooverthrowalloil richregimesintheMiddleEastthatdonotabjectlyaccedetoUSforeignpolicydiktat. ACanadiangovernmentrepresentingtheprevailingsentimentamongCanadiansforpeace and friendship, mutual beneficial trade without political sanctions and threats, with all peoples, regardless of the economic and political system they choose, could be making a majorcontributiontoworldpeaceandwouldserveCanadasinterests. The Harper Conservative government is not that government. The Conservative Government is a NATO war government. It has no independent foreign and peace policy based on the interests of the Canadian people and independent of NATO and its principal partner,theUSA. WhatisinexplicableisthatthereisnotasingleoppositionpartyinParliamentthathasthe courage tosay so and advocate a Canadian foreign policy of peace in opposition to Prime MinisterHarpersforeignpolicyofNATOregimechangewars. If Canadians are to have peace we need a government that promotes it. That means extricatingCanadafromNATOandthesoonerthebetter.
