The entire play was directed by John Demita. The entire play was set and designed to portray Brooklyn, New York 1949.The main cast were Norman Snow who portrayed Willy Loman, his wife Loman played by Peggy Flood and their two sons Biff Loman played by Nick Cagle and Happy Loman played by Clifford Cisneros. The audience couldnt have asked for a better cast than the one mention above. The play succeeds in many aspects but, however its best was in believable characters, lighting, and lastly usage of props. The cast members were indeed great the tone of voice and movement each and one of the characters played fit well. It made each and one of their characters believable which bought them to live. Starting off with the main character himself Mr. Loman he had such a great presents on stage. Every movement he did fit with the tone of voice he would do. A great example is when Mr. Loman out of the blue begins talking to himself and thinks about everything he has done and is going on through his life and hes telling his mistress to stop laughing and other people appear and keep telling him other things about his son failing math and his boss telling him he has to go on the road and get that deal. Another example Mr. Loman did which made his crazy character alive was when he kept talking to Uncle Ben of how he wanted him to share his story of how he became rich and a man when he was in African throughout the entire play. Mr. Loman gave a great performance as a nut job who wanted to keep living in the past to achieve everything he wanted and dream for his family. Aside from Mr. Lomans performance, Ms. Loman gave a well performance as well she did a great job portraying a good house wife who respects her husband and never talked back to him. As it was back in the old days woman didnt have much of a voice. During the whole play she kept quiet and always had her husband back even though he would tell her to shut up and not interrupt while he was talking. However, it was an unexpected when she finally stood up but a twist because she was yelling at her two
sons Biff and Happy; for not attending to dinner with their father as they said they would. The scene was great for Ms. Loman she gave a twist to her sweet innocent character she was playing. She showed great change of emotions and it made her character great when she slapped her son the audience were not expecting that. Mr. and Ms. Loman werent the only ones with great presents on stage; Mr.Cagle which played Biff had great interaction with the audience. His character was believable not quite at the beginning but he worked his way up to build his character. And when he finally worked his way up to build the character it was amazing to see. Hes greatest moment in the play would have to be in towards the middle in the second half of the play. When his character just couldnt hold in the truth any longer and choose to let out. It made a great climax to the play the way he used his tone of voice to yell and get every the audiences attention to him was beyond great. The way he changed his emotions from anger to hurt and pain and cried on Mr. Lomans lap was marvels. he showed hes only human and allowed to cry like anyone else didnt matter what gender he was. Happy was a great actor to see although there were a little moments Mr.Cisneros would go over the top like when he would try and get his fathers attention he would get on the floor and star doing sit-ups and get back up all suddenly and say Ive lost weight have you noticed pops it was unnecessary. However, he did a great job playing a ladys man he was very flirtatious and it was believable to watch and funny to see how he lied about everything to his dad in order to not worry him. What made the character believable as well besides their acting was their clothing it fit with the year the story was suppose to take place. Besides the marvels acting the characters did Friday night .The lighting was a big part of the play. If the lighting wouldnt be correctly done it throws off the entire play. The lights and the whole scenery was pretty descent. The way the the backstage production would move around the things without making it so noticeable it would just fit. The lighting along with the music played in the background made it a smooth transition. The lighting was at it best when Mr.
Loman had a moment to himself and everyone was attacking him in his own thought while he was suppose to have dinner. He had a little flash back and the whole scenery went from a dinner setting in a restaurant to pitch black and the light was on Mr. Loman and it just focused on him. Soon after the lighting and the dinner setting went back to place in matter of seconds; it was quiet well done. Aside from that moment there was another scene; where Mr. Loman death occurred and there were different flashing lights and the music it made it that much better. It had great lighting overall where the production did a good job coordinating the way to do certain lighting every scene did not lack even the simplicity scene where Mr.Loman was outside trying to plant seed for his carrots and other vegetables. The production did a descent job to make the production to its best. Lastly but not least the usage of props the characters had while the play was occurring was great. There is not a negative thing to say about the usage of props. The character used everything to their advantage from the smallest object as flashlight. Each scene had different props that made the play come to live from the simple bedroom that later became a hotel room to just a simple bench and the list keeps going. Every scene had different props that helped. The scene that made the most usage of was the props was when the scenery was suppose to be a hotel and Mr.Loman was there with his mistress and both hear a knock on the door and he made her go into the bathroom the lighting was not bright but not dark either it was dim but not really dim more of a reddish light with a little music in the background. The cast members along with the production crew made the play interesting to actually watch. All in all The death of a Salesman was a great show to attend. Even though it had a over the top moment by certain characters. All the characters had a great interaction with not only with each other on stage but with the audience as well. The director cast great actors for his production and he did a fine job on his play. The characters were very believable from the
way they spoke to what they wore. Every single character brought something different which made it real with the help of the scenery choice.
