Overview of Carman Wi
Carman Wi checks the vehicle defects by cable or wireless as a self-diagnostic sensor scan tool. As it is a compact size and wireless LAN communication type, users can diagnose the vehicle defects more quickly and conveniently. Functional Summary - Diagnostic function of Korean, Japanese, European, American Vehicles - Vehicle communication function by Wireless LAN, USB method - Work efficiency connecting the existing PC - Saved Data Search function
Please, try to use the software installation to install the program, after reading an operating manual from the beginning to the end.
Cautions in use
Safety Instruction
Cautions in Use Carman Wi described in this manual was manufactured for those who have the basic knowledge required for its use. Users should follow the safety instructions for safe and efficient use of the product. The cautions of use are as follows: Do not drop the product. Never use the product without the rubber boot in place. Do not put the product on a distributor or high-tension cables. Even though Carman Wi is manufactured to internally prevent the interference from the electromagnetic waves, the strong interference by excessive electromagnetic waves may damage the product. The strong surge or electric shock applied to the power cable may damage the power supply unit of the product. So, do not use the product while the power supply is unstable. The voltage rating of the AC/DC adapter is 12V DC. Be sure to use an AC/DC adaptor with the rated voltage.

2. Vehicle Battery
Connect the red clip of the battery connection cable to the (+) battery terminal, and black clip to the (-) terminal. Connect the cigar lighter cable between the battery connection cable and the product. In this case, power is supplied anytime regardless of the ignition switch status or vehicle starting. Be careful when connecting the cable, as incorrect polarity may damage the mainframe.
4. AC/DC Adapter
If the AC/DC adapter is used as a power supply, the battery may be charged automatically, and it may be used as the power source of the mainframe.

4. Once installation is complete, Installation Complete dialog appears. To complete, click Finish.
3. Once installation is completed, Installation Complete dialog appears. To complete the install, click Finish.
Please find nextechXXX from the Available Network on the left side of the screen. If there is no nextechXXX on the Available Network, click Refresh button to find nextechXXX again. If you find it, please double click it. ( The main unit of Carman Wi should be powered on during the procedure. )
Click More Setting to continue. 8. Click WEP Encryption Key Setting to continue.
Please input the number 1234567891 in the Key Value #1 and click Apply button. After this procedures, close all screens.
** How to set up the IP address ** Check the serial No. of Carman Wi. For example, if the serial number is 0077 as described in the picture, the first two digits 00will be used in the IP address without any changes. However, the next two digits77 should be changed as below ; 77+100=177 Then, input the changed number 177 in the IP address.
There are some USB slots for connecting a USB wireless LAN card with a PC. However, we recommend you to use one USB port. If you use other USB slots, the IP address that you set up will be changed. You will see a warning message and should set up TCP/IP newly, if you use the same IP address with different USB slots. (This applies to all computers using WINDOWS)
Although you follow this step, your IP address may collide with others. If you meet the this problem, try to add 1 to the last 3 digits for avoiding the IP collision.

Click the CarmanWi program, then click the [Add Program] button to set up an exception clause related the programs of Carman Wi from a firewall.
After all of the programs related Carman Wi are added to your system, click the [OK] button to finish setting up a firewall.
If setting the firewall is not correct, you may have a problem while you are checking a vehicle.
After the screen appears, click CONFIGURATION to continue. 16. Choose Wirless Lan on the COM PORT SET and click Search WLAN to continue.
6) After clicking the READ button, You can see the present IP address of the Carman Wi
And click WRITE button. 8) Click OK button when you see below box.
9) After checking the IP address, then use Carman Wi. To check the address, click READ button again.
Caution Wireless communication could be interrupted by any obstacles in between Wireless LAN card of Carman Wi and UNICORN Wireless LAN antenna.
Wireless communication is highly sensitive within 10m, but we recommend using it within 5m.
A USB cable can be used when Carman Wi can not be connected to PC by wireless LAN or when you want to download the diagnosis program. Connect a USB cable to the PC after you insert an installation CD into the PC and provide Carman Wi with power.
Tips) USB driver is on the driver CD provided. Insert driver CD into the CD-ROM drive and select the CD-ROM drive.
After setting up the USB driver, start the program and click Configuration button. As you can see in the left picture, select USB and click OK button.
Please connect Carman Wi powered by 12V adapter with PC. 12V adapter is a standard component. Tips) Diagnostic connector might be short when Carman Wi is connected with PC by USB. Then, please use an extension cable provided. Tips)
If you meet the following cases while you are using Carman Wi with a USB cable, please try to take the USB cable out from Carman Wi or turn off/on Carman Wi again. Case 1 : Missing connection between Carman Wi with a USB cable Case 2 : Cutting the power supply of Carman Wi
1. Vehicle Diagnosis
: Provides the function to diagnose the vehicle and display sensor outputs via communication with a vehicle.
2. Program Download
: Above item can be used when you download the saved data in Hard disk to Carman Wi. Also, you can change the units of Speed, Temperature, Pressure, Degrees of an angle and others if you press SYSTEM SETUP.
: Displays the saved data from sensors, waveforms and captured images.
4. Internet
[ Fig. X-1 How to connect a main cable to a vehicle] Caution !) Please, check the direction of the cable and the manufacture of vehicles first before trying to connect the cable to the vehicle. Some of vehicles cannot be suppy the Wi with vehicle power via a main cable. If so, you should use a cigar cable to provide Carman Wi with power.

(If Carman Wi and your PC are connected by a USB cable, the message will be displayed more quickly.)

Be sure to delete trouble codes only when the ignition key is on and an engine is off. A trouble code may not be erased, or abnormal problems may occur if deleting codes with the engine running. TIPS) A temporary trouble code may be erased without repairing. But if the fault is still valid, the code is erased temporarily, and will then be displayed again.

Data is displayed on the graph on the center of a screen. : Tap on VIEW RANGE to remove or replace the MIN/MAX values on the graph. Min/Max data is displayed on the right hand side of a graph.
: Tap on VIEW NAME to remove or replace the data item names on the graph. The name is displayed on the left hand side of a graph. TIP) / /
Data is displayed on the graph by default. To remove the display data on the screen, tap on a relevant icon once. The icon then turns to a red color, and the data will not displayed on the screen.
: To zoom the graph displayed on the screen, in or out, tap on the CH icon until the desired sensors channel is displayed and then tap the MAX+ or MAX- icon. To observe the graphical wave of a test item in more detail , you can tap on + or - icon to zoom in or out the graph.
While connecting Carman Wi with a PC, Wire/Wireless communication could be stopped by changing system mode, Standby mode or hibernate. Then, you should connect Carman Wi with a PC again in the changed mode. Please, do not use Carman Wi in the Standby mode or hibernate of WINDOWS.
You can check the changes of the date through holding or running the screen..
Fig. I-16 Settings Screen 2 : Tap on HOLD/RUN. When you tap on "HOLD", the screen will be frozen and by tapping on "RUN" the screen will proceed again.
: Tap on PAGE to move the screen to backward or forward. You can check the saved screen by pages.
: Tap on "ZOOM" to zoom in or out the screen of the value. Default value is set up at 60 and you can zoom in and out by 10units.
Fig. Actuator Screen TIP) When you select a test item on the actuator list, the START and STOP icons on the left hand side are activated, and DURATION, test METHOD, and test CONDITION are displayed on the right hand side. : Tap on START to start or stop an actuator forcibly. Pressing this icon starts the actuation. : Tap on STOP to stop an actuator being tested. Pressing this icon stops the actuation.
Fig. Resetting Adaptive Values : Tap on Yes to confirm you want to delete the adaptive values or execute the selected command. Confirms the deletion of adaptive values or execution of a command once more before performing it.
: Tap on REST to reset the adaptive values. Resets the adaptive values or system resetting items.
X. Program download
When you download new S/W programs, your PC and Carman Wi always should be connected by the USB cable.
After saving our S/W program in the folder of your PC, you can move the program s/w from your PC to Carman Wi by using theUSB cable. PC folder:[C drive] [Program file] [Nextech] [Carman
Wi] [SCAN_DATA]
Please, try to move our S/W program from your PC to Carman Wi after installation program called SCAN MODULE DOWNLOAD PROGRAM.
Fig. IX-1 Diagnosis Update Try to select the program whatever you want to move to Carman Wi after connecting your PC to Carman Wi then press the DOWNLOAD button. The program has to be saved in the following folder. [C drive] [Program file] [Nextech] [Carman Wi] [SCAN_DATA]
The units of Speed, Temperature, Pressure, Degrees of an angle and others can be changed in above screen. After changing the value of the items, press the WRITE SYSTEM button to save.
: Tap on GRAPH to check selected saved data file. You can check the saved data with this function. See Fig. II -3 Graph Screen
: Tap on DEL to delete a file. You can delete the selected data.
: Tap on LIST to return to the saved data list menu. Then, Fig. II -2 : Saved Data List Screen is displayed. : Tap on VIEW CH + to increase the number of signals displayed on a single screen The default number is 4. The number can be increased up to 8. : Tap on VIEW CH - to decrease the number of the signals displayed on a single screen. : Tap on UP to move up to the upper items to be displayed on the screen. : Tap on DOWN to move down to the lower items to be displayed on the screen.
XIII. Calculator
Provides a general calculator and unit conversion function.

3. Unit setting pane You can select the unit of the number to be displayed on an input pane. If you select a unit, the result is converted to other units shown in the pane (4) and displayed under a corresponding unit symbol. 4. Unit result pane The entered number and unit are displayed here.
5. Unit conversion pane The entered number is converted to other units listed in this pane.
XIV. Configuration

This is a function to test a key pat, check the system configuration information, and change the product settings.
: Tap to select Graph Set. (Fig. VI-2) You can set graph screen.
- DEVICE Set
DEVICE SETTING : You can select the device. Wireless Module IP : You can select the IP Address.

- You can change the Color of Line for your better analysis in case of being a lot of lines in the screen, which might confuse you at various similar line.

: Tap to select Grid 1. As you can see in the Fig. VI-2, it makes you to analyze the data precisely while dividing the box among ten. You can change the color of the line of the horizontal axis using screen scale configuration.(Which is not shown on the picture above.).
: Tap to select Grid 2 You can change the color of the horizontal axis line on the screen

: Tap to select Center Grid. You can change the color of the vertical axis line on the screen. : Tap to select Cursor. You can change the color of the cursor which the point of time is selected by user. : Tap to select CH1/8. You can select from Channel 1 to Channel 8. : Tap to select CH Color. You can change the color of the selected channel. : Tap to select OK. The selected item will be saved. : Tap to select CANCEL. The selected item will be canceled. : Tap to select Default 1. How to set up a wireless USB LAN card called WL-54G made by Unicorn. 1. Insert UNICORN Wireless LAN program CD into computer driver. 2. Install Shield Wizard dialog appears.

4. Connect a Wireless LAN Module(UNICORN) with USB port in the computer. Turn on Carman Wi. Found New Hardware dialog appears on the taskbar.

You will be able to find an icon called Local Area Connection in above screen. If so, try to move a pointer on the icon and click the right button of a mouse and open a file called Properties.
Try to find a menu Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click the menu. After that, put the IP address. Refer to the following steps ;

After moving to the [Device Manager] function as the following screen, try to find the driver, which is connected to Internet Explorer, and click the right button of the mouse first. Then, click the [Disable] function.
After changing the function, you will be able to use Carman Wi and diagnose the vehicles. However, you can not use Internet Explorer in this condition.

2. Step 2 for using Internet Explorer
Please, try to follow the step 2 to use Internet Explorer, again. Move the pointer of the mouse on a [Computer] icon and click the right button of the mouse to open the following screen. Click the [ Manage] function.
After moving to the [Device Manager] function as the following screen, try to find the driver, which is connected to Internet Explorer, and click the right button of the mouse first. Then, click the [Enable] function.
After changing the function, you will be able to use Internet Explorer, again. However, you can not use Carman Wi in this condition.
Reference Using Carman Wi might be limited if you use Internet Explorer in Windows Vista system. However, you will be able to use Internet Explorer after a manual installation. See page 11

How to set up the Carman Wi PC Program. 1. Insert Carman Wi Program CD into computer driver. 2. Click the [Carman Wi PC Program] folder in the following picture.
Double click the installation program of Carman Wi Click the Allow button to continue.

How to set up a wireless USB LAN card called WL-54G made by Unicorn. 1. Insert the wireless CF LAN card in the main module of Carman Wi and supply the power in the main module. 2. Insert the wireless USB LAN card in the slot of the computer.

3. After finishing the installation, the following picture will appear.
4. Move the pointer of the mouse on a [Network] icon which is located on the desktop of the computer. Then, click the right button of the mouse to open the following screen and select the [Properties] function as below.

5. The following screen will be shown. Click [Connect to a network] function as follows.
Try to find [nextechXXX] and click the[Connect] button to continue. If there is no [nextechXXX] in above screen, click until you can find it.

7. The connection value has to be Wireless Network Connection(nextechXXX) If so, click the [View status] button.
8. The following screen will be shown. Click [Properties] button to move the next step and double click the [Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) function.
