TRAINING PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Tertiary Preparation Certificate is an HSC-alternative course that runs for 12 months as a full time course. As an external student this timeframe is more flexible. It is designed specifically for students who have not completed their year 12 education or for those wishing to improve their Tertiary Entrance Score (TES) from previous attempts at the HSC. The academic standard is similar to the HSC but the subjects, learning and assessment methods are different. The course is presented in a way that develops sound basic academic skills, rather than a strong emphasis on examinations. HOW IS THE TERTIARY PREPARATION CERTIFICATE DIFFERENT TO THE HSC? Different Learning Methods: The learning resources are available through Moodle and Adobe Connect for those students wishing to participate in the online learning environment. Alternatively students can receive learning resources through email or hardcopy. This, coupled with regular phone and/ or email contact with teachers provides students with optimum distance education learning opportunities. Different Assessment Methods: All assessments are completed individually in consultation with your teachers. Australian Quality Framework (AQF) Level 4 units are submitted to a state-wide marking panel for verification of the students work. Your final score (TES) is taken from your three best AQF Level 4 units (one of which must be the core Language and Learning Skills AQF unit). Tertiary Preparation develops real academic skills including: Research skills Academic writing skills Presentation skills Independent learning skills ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Students must complete a short literacy and numeracy screen. This is available online and will be sent to students on request. Prior to enrolling Students must have a NSW School Certificate, Certificate II in General & Vocational Education or equivalent. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: The TPC provides an opportunity for students to enter courses and/or employment options where a Year 12 equivalent or alternative qualification is required. ARTICULATION: Students who complete the TPC will be eligible to receive the scaled TES. The Universities Admission Centre (UAC) uses the TAFE calculated TES to assist Universities in making offers of places to TPC Graduates. Successful completion of vocational electives in this course may allow credit transfer into TAFE vocational courses. This course is recognised for entry into TAFE diploma courses.
