We are now collecting


gently used uniform pants and white polo shirts. These donations will be used for students who have accidents and these clothes will also be available for trade-ins for students. If you have extra uniform clothes your children can no longer use, we will take them!

College Ready
At South Canton Scholars, teachers are working hard to ensure that all students are college ready by the time they leave the eighth grade. This means that teachers work with students to provide challenging assignments, project opportunities, and enrichment. Students in the sixth grade are already on their way to being college ready!

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS


Vocabulary and Spelling This week marks Week65 in the Wordly Wise series. Students are starting to make connections between subjects by using their newly acquired words on a regular basis. Please encourage your student to start using these words on a daily basis in the proper context. Grammar Verbs Its what you do! All classes will wrap up their verb units next week. The final test will be later in the week. Writing Students will being using their collected research this week to begin writing 10 MLA style notecards. These notecards are intended to assist in the information gathering process. They will take this information and create a powerpoint to present to the class. If a student needs a flash drive to save work please see Mrs. Lee. She a donated collection of brand new drives to share with students. Reading Text features have been a huge part of this weeks learning process. Students have been using the various text features to analyze different sources from newspaper articles to websites.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR 92.ktextor@heritageacademies.com Students are continuing to learn about the citizenship of ancient Greece and what the Greeks valued in their lives. This week students will be focusing on fables and drama. They will be making connections to how fables were created in ancient Greek times and yet still told today. Each rotation will be put into groups and will have the chance to create their own fable. At the end of the week students will put on their original fables for the class as a puppet show using toilet paper rolls... so if you have any please have your scholar bring them to class next week!! Students will continue to learn about the drama of Greece and compare it to drama today. Next week students will continue their weekly current event articles. One article needs to be of their choosing, and the second needs to be a current event happening in Greece. This will occur every Friday.

The Next two weeks mark the beginning of new units in all three rotations. Rotation 3 will continue to work on coordinate planes and formulas. Rotation 2 will complete their work on rational numbers and begin their coordinate plane activities. Rotation 1 has begun a new unit entirely devoted to operational fractions. Please be sure to check the website for the weeks homework assignments.

NWEA Testing
Almost Complete!

After a very exciting unit of taking on the role of engineers, students will switch their scientist hats and become ecologists. They will start this new unit next week with an investigation centered on biotic and abiotic habitats. As we start to complete the winter NWEA testing, students will be setting new goals for the spring. We tested once again in Math, Reading, and Language Usage. It is important that all students are putting forth their best effort each and every day in and out of the classroom. When they try their best it is reflected in both classroom assessments and RIT scores.
