Student Announcements
January 19, 2012 Congratulations to all Firebirds for bravery and for following directions yesterday during our lockdown! Thank you to all students, staff, and families for their support and patience. Cooperation between students, staff, families, Catawba County School district leaders, local businesses, local schools, and police agencies made the experience successful. Calendar dates to note for this week: 1. January 13 27: CHS Homecoming Events Please contact the Firebird Office if you and/or your family is not receiving the CHS Alert Now voice messages. The Alert Now voice message system is used each Sunday night for announcements, during Inclement Weather, and during emergencies. CVCC also has a voice message system. Please use the CVCC website to sign-up for CVCC voice messages. If your club or team has any announcements for the Screamer, please email the information to Ms. Benfield at heather_benfield@catawbaschools.net Yearbook Staff Members: If you attended Yearbook meetings in the fall and committed to the CHS Yearbook, please attend the weekly meetings this spring. The spring semester has numerous deadlines and needs all the support that is possible from the entire Yearbook Staff. If you are interested in joining (new), please start attending the weekly meetings. Each member must attend the weekly meetings and commit to helping. We want this yearbook to be the best yet!! (Meetings are on Tuesday in Mrs. Robbins room.)

Report cards are mailed to the students home. Students should receive report cards at their home address by January 15. To check your home address in our files, please see Ms. Plover. The top Families with the highest number of Family Points are Mr. Kales Family, Mr. Naylors Family, and Mr. Von Dohlens Family. Earning Family Points: show exemplary Integrity, Stewardship, and/or Citizenship (including highest grade level attendance for the week). Losing Family Points: any disciplinary infraction. Dont hesitate to ASK for points from the adult if you think you deserve Family points. Family this week: Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Families meet this week. Seniors will have a Senior Social with their Families later in the semester. Attendance is mandatory. FROM YOUR PSO: Volunteers needed: Every Monday, CHS needs volunteers from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. to monitor the Firebird Office and Nest. Volunteers needed to help with CHS Homecoming Events. Please call Ms. Plover in the office for more information. Volunteers needed to help with Womens Soccer and Womens Softball. Please call Mr. McPhail in the office for more information. Volunteers needed to help with the Annual BBQ and International Food Festival. Please join us for a planning meeting on January 23 at 6 p.m. in the Nest.

We are participating in the Valley Hills Mall My School's Cool program!! We could be awarded up to $5,000!! Shop on Wednesday and we get TRIPLE points for ALL retail purchases! Do you eat at the Mall?? EAT on TUESDAY OR THURSDAY and we will get TRIPLE points for every food court purchased! Please drop every receipt and/ or Points Pass from every purchase at the Valley Hills Mall in our orange drop box in the Nest OR in our CHS locker at the mall. Looking ahead: Update for Seniors: FAFSA Day will be held on February 18th. See Mrs. Osborne for details. Juniors take the ACT for free at CHS on March 6 during the regular school day. Attendance is mandatory.
