Advanced Super-VHS VCR with S-VHS ET & 3D Digital Process

Besides high resolution and high S/N ratio of the SVHS format, the Amorphous Pro Heads assure significantly better colour reproduction.
3D Digital Y/C Separation realizes recordings with minimal picture noise such as cross-colour. 3D Digital Noise Reduction eliminates noise for crisp and clean playback even of old, often-used tapes. Digital Time Base Corrector cuts out jitter and distortion to reproduce stable and highly natural pictures.

Super-VHS ET assures S-VHS-Quality recording even with VHS tapes*offering high quality images at lower , cost. * Panasonic Master series or other VHS-HG tapes recommended.

Now Panasonic has further expanded the possibility of video recording and playback with new SUPER LONG PLAY (EP) mode. This lets you record 12 hours with a 240-minute cassette!* Plus, special playback effects like Cue & Review can be reproduced with full colours just like in the SP mode.

12 Hours Super Long Play

The new Super Long Play (EP) mode triples the recording time compared to standard play (SP) mode. Full 12 hours of continuous recording and playback is possible with a 240-minute tape. And in the EP mode, you can enjoy clear special effects such as Cue & Review with full colours.
* The playback picture is distorted when you record the tape in EP mode using MESECAM system. However, this is not a malfunction. We recommend PAL system for recording in the EP Mode.

New Level of Image Quality

Super-VHS & Amorphous Pro Head
To take full advantage of the high resolution and high S/N ratio of the S-VHS format, the HS960 features the orignal Amorphous Pro Heads. With high magnetic coercivity, they assure significantly better colour reproduction.

3D Digital Y/C Separation This advanced 3-dimensional system separates Y (luminance) and C (chrominance) signals with higher precision and reduces noise caused by the mutual interference of the Y and C signals. So you can enjoy crystalclear recording images virtually indistinguishable from the original. 3D Digital Noise Reduction During playback, the Y-DNR and C-DNR separately eliminate luminance and chrominance noise contained in the video signal on the tape. This results in minimized flicker and stunningly vivid colours.

Easy Operation
Tape Library
During recording, the programme's channel, date/time and cassette ID number are recorded both on the tape and the VCR's memory. The HS960 can record the data of about 200 tapes (3 programmes per tape). This lets you find desired programmes easily and quickly from the identified tape by displaying the information on the TV screen. You can even add the programme title for extra convenience.

4-Key Programming
The layout of the four Timer Programme keys on the remote controller assures smooth, easy timer recording. For recording within the day, you have only to press three of these keys.

Digital TBC
The advanced time base corrector corrects the jitter and distortion to reduce picture deterioration in dubbing and editing. The processing involves temporarily writing the signals into large-capacity memory to achieve stable special effects.

Multi-Brand TV Compatible Remote Controller

The remote controller of HS960 lets you operate TV sets of major TV brands. Channel selection is easy with 10 keys. Setting the VCR for timer recording is also simple by using G-Code System.

Super-VHS ET
The new Super-VHS ET feature allows you to record S-VHS video signals on VHS tapes. So you can enjoy high quality pictures available regular VHS tapes.

Speedy Functions
x360 Jet Rewind
(60 sec. with E180 Tape) * The newly developed "Jet"speed tape transport mechanism assures exceptionally smooth, high-speed rewind, so you spend less time waiting. The rewind speed increases to x540 with tapes recorded in Super Long Play Mode. Finding desired programmes is also faster with Intro-Jet Scan and Programme List Search.

3-Dimension Digital Process

Most of the Super-VHS image processing circuitry has been digitalized to greatly minimize noise and picture quality deterioration. The advanced 3-dimensional system enables high precision video signal processing for true-to-life images in recording and playback, plus superb picture quality during editing.

One-Touch Edit
With the HS960, edit operations are incredibly easy, from the beginning to the end. Simply connect another VCR or video movie camera for playback, via a 5-pin editing and synchro edit terminal.

Stereo System

In the LP mode only: During playback modes other than standard playback, the pictures will appear in black and white. This is not an indication of a malfunction. In the LP and the EP mode: When playing back a tape which was recorded on another VCR in LP or EP mode, it may be necessary to adjust the tracking control. In some cases the picture quality may still be substandard. A Note about NTSC Playback on PAL TV On some TVs, the playback picture may roll up or down: adjust this using the V-HOLD control on the TV. However, TVs not equipped with a V-HOLD control cannot correct this condition. The playback picture will shrink vertically, and black bars will appear both on the top and bottom of the screen. This is not an indication of a malfunction.
