This package consists of a rotary encoder board and a volume control board, matching product used with the amplifier boards which have extensible interfaces for volume adjustment. The range of volume adjustment is up to -83dB to 0dB with 1dB/step accuracy. April 10, 2011 I used this with the 2x100 watt amp from Sure mostly Performance: because it was a fairly cheap way to control the volume. are three gain settings on the amp board, and this controller will only raise or lower the volume with the amp at the lowest setting. In other words if you are going to use this with a stand alone CD player with a more powerful line-level output, then you should be fine; but if you plan on using it with an MP3 player or any other device that won't have it's own volume control, then this isn't really the best option. With my iPod turned almost all the way up and my amp all the way up, it just wasn't loud enough, certainly not for an amp with boasts 100 watts of power per channel. On the plus side, the knob included with it (black one) is very nice and looks high-end. The feel of the unit as you turn it is solid and substantial. It does require a push of the knob to begin volume control after you turn the unit on, and it's a loud "snap" when you push it. Also, it has LED's that "breathe" (get dimmer and brighter) while the unit is on, which can give a nice effect. Those same two lights also glow right when you raise volume, and left when you lower volume - depending on which mode it is on: pulsating mode, or volume mode. I think it's a steal for the price, but it has limitations, if you want to use an iPod with a line level output then don't expect maximum volume with this unit, you will only be able to control the volume with the gain setting at it's lowest setting. March 7, 2011 Better than I anticipated. But, with no installation Performance: Macey instructions for installing this unit to the SURE amplifier, Value: Location: Florida there were nervous moments when you tried to figure out Features: Age: Over 65 procedure, and worried about the consequences if you Technical Knowledge: Amateur guessed wrong. Puzzles were: 1) should the amp dip switches be "off, med" or on" ....(should be "off"); and. 2) figuring out why the volume control shaft could be rotated infinitly without engaging any stops (as conventional potentiometers do) and 3) what was the function of enabling this shaft to be pushed inwards..... It appears to me that this "new" (to me) contol shaft does digital counting, and therefore can be rotated infinitely to obtain by pulsing a greater range of control......and once set, can remain at this count setting even though the power is turned off. On restart, to be able to readjust volume (if required) one must push in the volume control shaft slightly (a click is heard) to enable the count level to be changed if required after a period of inoperation.
