Message from the President

A warm invitation to you to visit

Uniqueness of Maharishi University of Management

Maharishi University of Management is in fact unique in America, as it is the only university of enlightenment and permanent world peace. It develops intellectual rigor while simultaneously unfolding the treasures that lie within our consciousness. e transformation that takes place in the students over the course of their education is remarkable. On the day of graduation, everyone is dazzled by the sight of the graduating students and the manner in which they speak and the depth and universality of their understanding.

approach, in which students focus on specic elds of the laws of nature, such as scientic laws, or principles of management or art, etc. is approach only enlivened specic parts of the brain, and never the total brain. Consequently, students total creative potential and intelligence have remained undeveloped. is inadequate and incomplete education is the cause of all stress and strain and problems that have been witnessed in the world. ere is no other university or school in America like ours, where students experience their own Self the most silent, peaceful, blissful level of consciousness. is holistic experience of consciousness itself is the only experience that awakens total brain functioning. e result: Our students grow in the ability to achieve anything they desire not through hard work but through softest thought thinking from the most rened level of consciousness where thought begins, where it is most creative, and where it engages the support of natures intelligence for the steps of activity needed to achieve the goal.

Holistic versus fragmented approach

Higher education until now had developed only part of the brain because of its fragmented

Scientic research, for example the studies conducted by Professor N.N. Lyubimov at the Brain Institute in Moscow, has demonstrated that the Transcendental Meditation technique optimizes brain functioning, allowing students to use the hidden reserves of brain potential. Other scientic ndings on the Transcendental Meditation program include increased creativity and intelligence, improved memory, better academic grades, reduced anxiety, improvements in moral reasoning and in selfdevelopment.

Unication of all elds of knowledge

Also unique at Maharishi University of Management, students focus with their professors on the discovery of the unied eld the unity of all the laws of nature in a single universal eld from both the modern scientic and ancient scientic perspectives. Students study the totality of the laws of nature through dierent disciplines of science, arts and commerce, but also through their common basis in the unied eld which can be experienced by everyone in the self-referral eld of their own consciousness. rough special charts the faculty have prepared, students understand the parts of each eld of knowledge they study in relation to the total knowledge of the eld, the total eld in terms of the source of all laws of nature in the unied eld, and the reality of that unied level of intelligence as their own consciousness in its self-referral state. is is Consciousness-Based, unied eldbased education. In the future all education in the world will be Consciousness-Based. is is truly a holistic and complete approach to gaining knowledge. It develops our students innate creative potential to become global citizens of our dear planet. It develops the balance and leadership needed for a new golden age of the human race to dawn and for life to be sustained perpetually in harmony with the laws of nature.

as measured by declining crime and violence, strong economic progress, and greater societal harmony. It is easy now for any university or school to incorporate the Transcendental Meditation program and give the opportunity for students to experience the limitless potential creativity of their total brain.

Focus on permanent world peace and global invincibility

Global eectiveness of Consciousness-Based education

Consciousness-Based education has been introduced in Maharishi universities and schools and in public and private schools in dierent parts of the world. Professors and teachers have reported that the result is a more focused and disciplined educational environment, with greater creativity and enthusiasm for knowledge and an atmosphere of serenity and mutual respect pervading the classrooms. In cities with Consciousness-Based universities and schools, the quality of life improves,

Maharishi University of Management is also dedicated to creating permanent world peace and national invincibility for the U.S. and for every nation such that no nation in the world can be damaged any more by such negativity as terrorism, crime, disease, and war from outside or inside the nation. Our students, by practicing the Transcendental Meditation program and its advanced programs including Yogic Flying in the Golden Domes at the heart of our campus, have created a great particle accelerator of consciousness. With more than 2,000 participants, this group generates a more coherent and peaceful national consciousness. e eld eect of consciousness created by this group practice of Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying has been measured in 50 scientic studies. So every student and faculty member at Maharishi University of Management is a peace creator for the world and the creator of a more intelligent, balanced, and sustainable world. ere is no other place that feels like this, and no other group of people on earth living like this focused on enlightenment and profound unifying knowledge, eating organic food, living in FortuneCreating buildings, practicing prevention-oriented natural health care, setting an example to the world in sustainable living, living in harmony as a global family from 85 nations, and devoting themselves to the perpetual peace of the human race. We welcome you with all our hearts to come soon.

e founding of the University

In 1971, after teaching the Transcendental Meditation program around the world for the previous 16 years, Maharishi began to formulate a new science that would oer a complete, systematic understanding of consciousness. He called the new discipline the Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI). Maharishi envisioned SCI as a supplementary course that could be taught at universities around the world. It would make all elds of knowledge meaningful, revealing the laws of nature at the basis of math, art, biology, and every other area of study. After studying SCI, a student would easily be able to connect any subject to his or her own Self. In 1971, SCI was introduced at such universities as Yale and Stanford with great success. at summer, Dr. Robert Keith Wallace, a post-doctoral researcher at Harvard whose Ph.D. dissertation had included the rst research on the Transcendental Meditation program, organized a large SCI symposium on the Amherst campus of the University of Massachusetts. At that conference, in the presence of leading scientists like Buckminster Fuller, Maharishi announced his intention to create a university whose entire curriculum would incorporate the Science of Creative Intelligence. Its name would be Maharishi International University.

Knowledge is for action, action for achievement, achievement for fulllment. us, knowledge is directly concerned with fulllment. For complete fulllment, complete knowledge is necessary. Complete knowledge should mean total knowledge of the object of inquiry and total knowledge of the subject: total knowledge of both the known and the knower. When the knower does not know himself, then the basis of knowledge is missing. In this situation of baseless knowledge, fulllment will always remain baseless. is is what mankind had been left to face concerning life throughout the ages. e rst Golden Dome generating invincibility and peace

In October 1979, the University and the community began construction of a 25,000-squarefoot wooden dome in the center of campus a Golden Dome. is would be the rst building in the world dedicated to group practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs, including Yogic Flying. Construction companies had advised allowing 2 years to build such a dome. But the crew was intent on completing the building by January 12, just over 100 days later. People from all over the country came to help, working around the clock. To meet the deadline, the construction schedule specied eight separate, specic days for pouring concrete. On each of these days, the temperature would have to rise above 32 degrees and remain there until the concrete dried. And on each of these days, it did sometimes rising as much as 4050 degrees in a single day. And on each occasion, the concrete dried in a single day. e inauguration took place on January 12, 1980, right on schedule, one of the most moving and exhilarating events in University history. A year earlier on January 12, the temperature had been just 8 degrees. On this day it was a sunny 54 degrees. e dome structure was named the Maharishi Patanjali Golden Dome of Pure Knowledge, after the Vedic sage Patanjali, who brought forth the Yoga Sutras, the source of the TM-Sidhi program and Yogic Flying. A second Golden Dome was completed in 1981. roughout the world, these two Golden Domes symbolized group practice of Yogic Flying Maharishis technology for creating invincibility for every nation and peace for the world. Maharishi visited the campus at the end of 1979 while the Golden Dome was being constructed. He said: is rst Dome will create a very powerful inuence of coherence in the world consciousness. Well continue to purify world consciousness, day after day and week after week and year after year generation after generation. Its going to prove a blessing for the whole of mankind.

e rst Golden Dome was constructed practically around the clock in the middle of winter, and in a fraction of the predicted time. 10

7,000 Yogic Flyers create a global wave of harmony
In 1974, scientists at Maharishi University of Management discovered that when just 1% of a citys population was instructed in the Transcendental Meditation program, the quality of life in those cities began to rise, reected in reduced crime rate. ey called this eect the Maharishi Eect. When Maharishi brought out the advanced TM-Sidhi program in 1977, he predicted that an even smaller number would be required to begin to transform society the square root of 1% of a population practicing together in one place. At the end of November 1983, Maharishi called for Yogic Flyers from all over the world to come to Faireld to give the world a sweet taste of utopia. e goal was to assemble 7,000 Yogic Flyers in one place for several weeks the square root of 1% of the worlds population at that time. is would be the largest social experiment in history and it would be held in just three weeks.

Over the next three weeks, the campus was transformed. A 60,000-square-foot Grand Assembly Hall was built. A 200-unit mobile home park was installed. Another 15,000-square-foot building was constructed. And by the end of December, 8,000 Yogic Flyers from 46 countries had arrived. During those magical three weeks, a wave of harmony and goodwill swept the world. Stock markets soared all over the world, many setting new records repeatedly. International conict eased. Heads of state became more positive and cooperative. roughout the country, crime, air trac fatalities, and highway trac fatalities dropped signicantly. Trac fatalities dropped in countries as far away as Australia and South Africa. Infectious disease rates dropped throughout the country and as far away as Australia. ese outcomes were predicted in press conferences in advance of the Assembly. Based on this success, Maharishi called for a permanent group of 7,000 Yogic Flyers in the United States to create the Maharishi Eect on a permanent basis and transform the world. Maharishi said, e world can never remain the same old suering world.

the National Demonstration Project
In the summer of 1993, under the leadership of Dr. John Hagelin, the University organized a National Demonstration Project in Washington, DC is would be the most highly public demonstration of the Maharishi Eect to date, testing its ecacy in reducing crime and social stress and improving the eectiveness of government. In particular, Dr. Hagelin predicted violent crime would drop by 20%. In this carefully controlled experiment, the peace-creating group increased from 800 to 4,000 over the two-month period. Although violent crime had been steadily increasing during the rst ve months of the year, soon after the start of the study, violent crime (measured by FBI Uniform Crime Statistics) began decreasing and continued to drop until the end of the experiment (maximum decrease 23.3%), after which it began to rise again. e likelihood that this result could be attributed to chance variation in crime levels was less than two parts per billion. e drop in crime could not be attributed to other possible causes, including temperature, precipitation, weekends, and police and community anticrime activities. e study was published in Social Indicators Research, one of the leading social science journals.

the Invincible America Assembly
In July 2006, inspired by Maharishi, the University launched a major initiative to create coherent national consciousness, the basis of a peaceful, prosperous, invincible country. is was the Invincible America Assembly. Its aim: to build the size of the Yogic Flying group at the University to the square root of 1% of the U.S. population. is would be the largest scientic experiment ever to monitor the eects of a large group of advanced meditation experts on national economic and social trends. Since 2006, we have seen signs of rising national coherence and positivity. In 2010, for example, the FBI reported an unexpected 50-month decrease in violent crime in the U.S. Federal law enforcement ocials neither anticipated the sustained drop in violent crime, nor have they identied a cause. But before the Assembly started, Dr. John Hagelin predicted a dramatic crime decrease to the global press. Almost every day Assembly participants report extraordinary experiences of higher states of consciousness experiences of the highest levels of human development, unique in the worlds spiritual literature. ey simply close their eyes, dive within using Maharishis technologies of consciousness, experience the dynamically silent bliss of their own Self and the world around them is enriched and transformed.

M AH AR ISHIS 2003 COMMENCEMENT A DDR ESS

fulll your desire, and your desire will be nothing less than a bright civilization for the people of your country to become an example to the people of other countries. ere is a proverb in Sanskrit, that one moon rising in the darkness of the night is enough to bring the light everywhere one single moon. So you will be the expected bright moon of your country, when now you will be going home to your dierent countries, or if you are in the U.S. itself, you will be the guiding light. You have that basis in knowledge of your Self, which you have achieved quietly inside yourself during your hopping periods in the Golden Domes of Maharishi University of Management, and of course, in the classes, with all the management skills that you have gathered. Your task will be to create beautiful lotuses on the muddy pond. And that will be from within your Self, from within your Self, from within your Self. I am telling you my experience of 50 years working in the Movement, giving lectures, persuading people, individually training teachers, and all opening universities, all that but I have come to the conclusion that now creating the eect is necessary. is is beyond publicity. is is beyond lecturing. is is beyond talking to the people. From ones own inner selfreferral consciousness, unied eld within

oneself, this Consciousness-Based education, Consciousness-Based health care system, Consciousness-Based agriculture, Consciousness-Based administration, Consciousness-Based defense, ConsciousnessBased progress will bring great progress with least eort. ere is a phrase, safety rst. Where is the safety? e safety is in not being lost in the diversity of the world. Maintain your steadfastness in your own inner silence, be self-referral consciousness. You have all the knowledge, you have all the knowledge, and you have all the programs for life. Be a guiding light for your entire environment, wherever you are. Wherever you are, your environment will have you as a guiding light. So take the advice of your professors, of your parents, and make hay when the sun shines. When you are fresh in your experiences of the inner Self, spread the light by cultivating your inner awareness more and more day by day. Bless them all [the students] and send them with cheers everywhere. Wherever theyll be, they are going to ring the bell of Eureka for themselves and for all their environment. All Glory to Guru Dev, and soon we will have a beautiful world, a new history, and youll be the writers of new history. Jai Guru Dev
