DEL ROSARIO ADVERTISING

I. Company Overview

Del Rosario Advertising is a national advertising company. It is mainly dedicated to creating, planning and handling advertising and any other forms of promotion for its clients. It is independent from its clients and provides an outside point of view to the effort of selling the clients products and/or services. It also handles overall marketing and branding strategies and sales promotions for its clients. It also accepts production of television commercials and radio commercials as part of the clients advertising campaign. A creative agency such as Del Rosario Advertising specializes in the creation of the advertisement itself or the branding.

II. Company Structure

The companys main branch is located in Makati City, Philippines and two other branches are located in Cebu City and Davao City. Each branch is composed of 3 departments:

Creative Department This department is the core of the advertising company. It is composed of copywriters and art directors. This department generates creative ideas to represent the advertisement or the campaigns key message.

Media Services Department

This departments personnel are the people who have contacts with the suppliers of various creative media.

Production Department

This department ensures that the TV commercial or print ad and etc. gets produced. They are responsible for contracting directors and production companies in the case of TV commercials; photographers and design studios in the case of the print advertising or direct mailers.

Network Design I. Topology

The Wide Area Network or the network connection between branches (router to router) is designed to be in a Full Mesh Network Topology. Mesh Network Topology is a type of networking topology where each node must not only capture and disseminate its own data, but also serve as a relay for other nodes. It has two types: the Full Mesh Network Topology and the Partial Mesh Network Topology. Full Network Topology is a communication network wherein each node (workstations or devices) are connected to each other, as shown in Fig.1. Whereas in Partial Mesh Network Topology, some nodes are connected to all the others, but some of the nodes are connected only to those other nodes with which they exchange the most data, as shown in Fig.2. In the network design used in Del Rosario Advertising, all 3 branches are directly connected with each other. It nearly resembles a ring network topology with only 3 nodes shown, but when added with 1 or more nodes, it will look exactly like the one in Fig.1. Full Mesh Topology is reliable, since if one node experiences technical problems and can no longer operate; the rest of the nodes can still communicate with each other.

The connection to the Web Server in the network is designed to be in a Star Network Topology, as shown in Fig.3, wherein for the Cebu and Davao branch to be able to communicate to the Web Server, everything has to pass through the router of the main branch first before reaching the Web Server itself. Also, the network design for the connection of each department per branch is designed to be in a Star Network Topology, wherein to be able to communicate from one department to another within the same branch, everything has to pass first through the router of that branch. Star Topology is also used in the network design for the connection of each workstation in each department, wherein to be able to communicate from one PC to another, everything has to pass through the switch of that same department. The star topology is the considered the easiest topology to design and implement. An advantage of the star topology is the simplicity of adding additional nodes.

II. Subnet Assignment

The company is given a Class B network address of 150.193.0.0. 8 bits were borrowed which means, it has the custom subnet mask 255.255.255.0. It also has 253 usable IP addresses per subnet(the first address is for the network address and the last is for the broadcast address) . Subnet addresses that the company can utilize are shown in the table below, together with the host range and its broadcast address.

Subnet Subnet Address 0 1 2 255 150.193.0.0 150.193.1.0 150.193.2.0 150.193.255.0

Host Range 150.193.0.1 - 150.193.0.254 150.193.1.1 - 150.193.1.254 150.193.2.1 - 150.193.2.254 150.193.255.1 - 150.193.255.254

Broadcast Address 150.193.0.255 150.193.1.255 150.193.2.255 150.193.255.255

The subnets 1-254 are for the existing branches that the company has as of today.

Private IP addresses were used in the companys Local Area Network to ensure security and privacy. The interval between the Network Addresses used per branch is intended for possible addition of departments per branch. The table below shows the Private IP address assignment used for each branch.

III.Network Devices

Server The Web Server of the network is connected to the router of the Main branch (Makati Branch). This Web Server provides web-based connection within the Wide Area Network, which is important for the companys transactions.

Router A router is a device that forwards data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. A router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks. With regards to the network design of the company, routers are used in every branch. Routers for each branch are used to dynamically assign addresses to different workstations for every department instead of using DHCP servers for each department.

Switch A switch is a hardware device that joins multiple computers within one Local Area Network (LAN). In the case of the companys network design, switches are used to connect the workstations of each department.

Cables Copper UTP Cable Copper UTP (Untwisted Pair) Cables are used in the network to connect the devices physically. Cross-over UTP cable is used to connect the Web Server to the router of the main branch. Straight-through UTP cables are used to connect routers to switches and switch to PCs.

Serial Cable Serial Cables are cables used to transfer information between two devices using serial communication. In the companys network design, Serial DCE Cables are used to connect one router to another. A Serial DCE Cable supplies the clock signal that paces the communications on the bus.
