THE THREE INTEGRATED PRACTICES

Awakening
In the practice of Awakening clients awaken to what is and what isnt. What is important to
them, what holds them back, what moves them forward, and what brings them joy? In Awakening
one awakens to their true passion, their Inner Power, their Higher Self, awaken to the NOW!
Accepting
In the practice of Accepting they begin to honor the Awakened state and what that means to
them in terms of perspective on life, life situation, and relationships. In this practice the client
begins releasing blockage and using the law of attraction in intentionally manifesting what they
desire in their life.
Actualizing
Having accepted what is wanted into their life; the relationships, the opportunities, and the
resources the client has begun Actualizing. In the practice of Actualizing clients work through the
details and the planning required to make changes, transitions, and have the desired impact in their
life and others. The vision becomes a reality!
HOW DO THESE PRACTICES FIT INTO YOUR PROCESS?

Everyones process is unique and we are all at different stages in our process. These practices dont
aim to define your process or what stage you are in. They serve the purpose of providing a
framework in approaching and enjoying your process. The practices are often re-iterative and reoccurring as we evolve through our process. Use the practices and the tools given to help you in
learning, growing, and enjoying your process. We are always in process, because life is a process.

The Wheel of Life

The wheel of life is a visual tool used to measure your level of satisfaction in your life. Think of it
as a snapshot of the present, not that past and not the future. How satisfied are you today? This
tool is a great place to start when beginning coaching or when you want to get a quick glance at the
areas in your life you may want to focus on.
Directions: In each area of your life measure from 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest) your level of
satisfaction. Draw in the arc in each area that corresponds to your level of satisfaction. If your life
were a wheel how balanced would your ride be?

USING MIND MAPS TO CREATE YOUR VISION

WHAT IS MIND MAPPING?

Mind mapping (or concept mapping) is a method of visualizing and understanding that involves
writing down a central idea and thinking up new and related ideas which radiate out from the
center. By focussing on key ideas written down in your own words, and then looking for branches
out and connections between the ideas, you are mapping thoughts, ideas, and concepts in a manner
which will help you understand and remember new information.
LOOK FOR RELATIONSHIPS

Use lines, colors, arrows, branches or some other way of showing connections between the ideas
generated on your mind map. These relationships may be important in understanding your vision
and seeing connections in different areas of your life. By personalizing the map with your own
symbols and designs you will be constructing visual and meaningful relationships between ideas
which will assist in the development of your vision. The key is to draw/write quickly on unlined
paper without pausing, judging or editing
Pausing, judging, and editing promote linear thinking and the idea of mind mapping is to think
creatively and in a non-linear manner. There will be plenty of time for modifying the information
later on but at this stage it is important to get every possibility into the mind map. Sometimes it is
one of those obscure possibilities that may become the key to increased understanding of self and
your vision. Write down key values, desires, and ideas.
USEFUL TIPS

Some find that using capital letters encourages them to get down only the key points. Capitals are
also easier to read in a diagram. You may, however, wish to write down some explanatory notes in
lower case (save this for later). We will do this when revisiting the mind map later in the workshop
when we discuss goals.
You may find it useful to turn the page on the side and do a mind map in landscape style. With
the main idea or topic in the middle of the page this gives the maximum space for other ideas to
radiate out from the centre.

DURING THE WEEK

Reflections
1. Commit to changing one thing you do each day to recommit to your values and vision.
2. Try to be aware in how you live out your values and how they help guide in your decision making,
relationships with others, and most importantly your relationship with yourself.
Exercises
1. Use the vision mapping technique to develop a vision for an area of your life (i.e. Career,
Personal Growth, Relationships, etc.) You can choose an area listed in the Wheel of Life or an one
that you define. I personally like to work with the five areas, Financial, Professional, Personal General, Personal - Relationships, and Spiritual.

EXPERIENCES AND TALENTS

Identifying Talents
A. List up to 10 experiences youve had in the past when you did something well and enjoyed
doing it. Examples might be: leading a fundraising project for community service, writing an 18
page research paper, designing the interior of a bedroom, learning to ride a bicycle, resolving a
conflict, winning a basketball game, or caring for your younger brother/sister.

INSIGHT MEDITATION: ACCEPTING THE NOW

Your Breath
Insight mediation is a form of meditation where one focuses on self. In some meditations one visualizes, or
chants mantras, or even focuses on a candle flame. In Insight Meditation breath is the anchor, the initial
focus is on the breath. Use your breath to help quiet your mind. There is no right way to breath, try to
breathe as natural as you can while focusing on the breath. Feel your chest rise and fall, the air against your
nostrils, the outward and inward motion of your belly.
Your Senses
As you are focusing on your breath there may be a time when you notice certain sensations. You may feel
the urge to scratch, or a gust of wind, or a change in temperature. When this occurs notice the sensation
and acknowledge it. Do not focus on the sensation. Acknowledge it and return the attention to your
breath. In Insight Meditation one of the purposes is to connect with the body. Acknowledging your
sensations yet not allowing it to consume you, is being present.
Your Emotions
When meditating it is common to experience emotions. You may experience, irritability, boredom,
happiness, calmness; a myriad of emotions. Again do not try to force them away; once acknowledge them,
name it. Acknowledge that you are feeling a certain way; bring your attention to the feeling, name it and
bring the attention back to the breath.
Your Experience
After meditating use the questions below as a guide in journaling your experience with Insight Meditation

YOUR VISION: ACCEPTING WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU!

Revisit your Vision Map. Either the one you created in class or the one you completed for homework. Do
the latter if you would like to take a detailed look at one area of your life.
Take 5 minutes and truly look at your Map, what you wrote, the colors you chose, the connections you made,
the illustrations your drew. Next, look at the vision statement you wrote to accompany the map. Read it
and truly and wholeheartedly reflect on what it means in your life Today. What do you need to Accept, what
do you need to let go of, what already exists that is perfectly in its place. All three of these questions are
related to the practice of Accepting; accepting who you are today and where you want to go, and what this
means for you.
What in my life or this area of my life do I need to Accept?

Now we have looked at some things we need want to work in acceptance in our lives and how we plan on
doing so. You may already be feeling some emotions around this work; they may be excitement, anxiety,
fears, motivation or a mixture of emotions. Next we will address the a common barrier in the practice of
Acceptance: Fear.

EXPECTATIONS AND FEARS

Fears
Fear often times holds many of us back, it often times may seem easier to stay in a certain place, or certain
state of mind, under a certain belief because it feels comfortable. As we discussed last week in Awakening,
change is not always easy or comfortable in the beginning. That does not mean that the change in your life
will not come with great rewards or is not good for you. For example, often times for a person who is always
busy, simply sitting still is uncomfortable at first. It makes them anxious and nervous. Yet once they Accept
it, they begin to appreciate how it may and to their lives, even if done momentarily. Below is an exercise to
help us look at our fears. When choosing the fears think of ones that surround your work in Acceptance, be
honest with yourself, and truthful.
A Little Bit About Fear and Anxiety
Everyone experiences fear. In fact, often fear drives much of our behavior. Fear can also be a barrier to
pursue our true dreams. Anxiety is a cousin of fear and tends to be less intense and longer lasting than fear.
Another distinction between fear and anxiety is that fear is a response to an identifiable stimulus, whereas
anxiety is not clearly associated with a specific stimulus. Both fear and anxiety serve a practical function
they keep us safe from danger (both real and perceived). And yet, they can also be major obstacles to a
commitment to growth and change because they are precursors and companions of change.
Increasing our awareness of our fear and anxiety can be an effective strategy in overcoming them. Once we
understand what triggers and motivates the fear and anxiety, then we can make conscious choices to either
move toward safety or change.
The following are some of the categories of fears that we experience:
o Fear of Success
o Fear of Failure/Fear of Reprisal/Fear of Rejection
o Fear of Change/Fear of Losing Control
Fear Exercise I:
What are 3 fears that you have? How much impact do they have on your life and work?

to Techniques and Practices by Perry Zeus and Suzanne Skiffington; pages 135 and 137.

Fear Inventory
Next, we will take a second to unfold the fears that occur. The purpose of this exercise is to help bring
understanding to the fear, allowing you to manage and control it; and not let it control you. Use this
exercise to unfold the fears you identified in the previous exercise. In doing this exercise be aware of
expectations you may have placed on yourself or taken from society. How do they play a role in your life?
Are they limiting you or fueling you?
Fear Exercise II:
What are fears that you have?

Dealing with fears plays a powerful role in Acceptance. Once fears are managed and under control, they no
longer control your behavior or cloud your vision. It then can be easier to Accept certain truths, lessons,
and receive the blessing, lesson, or opportunity you are in store for. Your fears then become opportunities
for growth and understanding, a place to begin learning about Self.

FUTURE SELF/HIGHER SELF

The Future Self of the Higher Self is the self-assured you free of saboteurs, self-doubt, and fear-fueling
thoughts and behaviors. Your future self is aware of your strengths and challenges. The focus of this
exercise is to help you listen and develop trust in your inner intuition. The future self is a powerful image of
self that is fulfilled, balanced, and consciously whole. We will do a powerful visualization exercise to help
you tap into your Higher Self.

Your Experience
After the visualization use the questions below as a guide in journaling your experience with your Future
Self.

ACTUALIZING: BRINGING THE THREE PRACTICES TOGETHER

INTRODUCTION
Now we have reached the third integrated practice of the CLEAR Destiny framework for purposeful living.
We have done work around our values, our fears, our vision...How does it all fit together? It may be obvious
to some and not so much to others. In Awakening we begin to open up and become aware to what our true
dreams and desires are. We talked about our values and created vision maps that were a colorful and
illustrative expression of ourselves. The next practice was around Acceptance. During this phase you got to
take another look at your vision map and what needed to happen in your life for it to become a reality.
Within this work we also discussed fears and taking power over them to begin removing barriers that may be
holding you back.
Actualizing. Actualizing is the practice which brings all of your inner work together and allows you to put it
into effect in your life. Actualizing can and will look different in your life depending on where you are in
your process and how you work. It may look very active for some, there may be obvious outward change in
job, relationships, home, even your look. Actualizing may also be less obvious outwardly but make a big
difference inwardly. You may be actively working on your self-esteem, or facing fears, or clearing your
energy, or creating space. For example, practicing Acceptance is a form of inward Actualizing. This inward
action can often take as much energy as something seemingly active.
In the end whether it is completely obvious to the outside world or not you are living out your vision and it
begins to manifest itself in reality more and more each day. Each day you are true to yourself and live in your
values, accepting who you are, facing fears, and being true to yourself.
Today we will begin developing our action plan. We have begun building the foundation for our action plan
the last couple of weeks, now it will begin to take form. Remember the discussion around Actualizing and
its different looks when creating your action plan and setting goals. More about this later. Lets start with a
visualization.

ACTUALIZING: CREATING IMPACT

Before you begin setting your goals you will first look at the type of impact you would like to have. This is
key to setting meaningful goals. Often times people set goals, seemingly meaningful and important goals;
only to find when they achieve them it does not bring the joy they expected. The purpose here is not to
create joy or happiness in the future its to create joy in each moment. When one is living in their purpose
and creating the impact they want to in their lives and the world; they are Joyful!
In this exercise we will re-visit our original vision map, the one you did during the week, and the wheel of
life. Look first at your vision map, this is always a great place to start because it is a colorful expression of
you and the way you want to live. Next, look at your wheel of life and choose an area you would like to focus
on today. Ideally, this would be the same area you focused your second vision map on. The other area you
will focus on today is Personal Growth.
What area did you chose? Why?

_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
How would you rate these areas in terms of your satisfaction today and why?

_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________

What do these two areas need to look like in order to be a 10 in terms of satisfaction?

_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________

Take a moment and truly think about what needs to happen in your life for this to occur. For now, think of
this in terms of the impact. For example; If your area is Finances instead of jumping to how much money
you want to make or the job you want. Think first of the impact that will have. Some impacts may be: To
be financially free, to retire my mother, to live in my own home. This is an important place to begin so
that we dont get caught up in the details of, in this example, the raise or promotion. Instead we focus our
energy on the true desire behind it allowing for clarity in our goal setting and the Knowing of why we do
things. This knowing is key in helping us stay grounded, centered, and balanced. It also allows for more
open minded planning in our goal setting.
List the impact you would like to have first on yourself, then those you love, next your community, and lastly
the community-at-large.

ACTUALIZING: SETTING GOALS

Goal setting is a powerful tool if done correctly. The best way to begin is to truly know what you want, why
you want it, and how it feeds you. Up to this point most of the work we have done should have helped to
clarify these this for you. Many may have heard of the acronym SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable,
Realistic, and Timely. When setting your goals use this as a checklist to help ensure your success.
SPECIFIC
Be Specific. What are you going to do? Why are you doing it? How will you do it?
MEASURABLE
Create goals that allow for measurements of progress. How will you measure progress? How will you know
the goal has been achieved. Our work with mid-term and short-term goals will help clarify this.
ACHIEVABLE
Make sure your goals are achievable by your values, talents, skills, and desires. Is it something you truly want
and are willing to work for? Are their barriers? If so that is fine, how will you address them? These are all
things to consider when creating goals. Be careful of saboteurs here!
REALISTIC
This ties directly in with Achievable. Set goals in which the specifics are realistic. Losing 20 pounds in one
week, might not be the most realistic goal. Losing 2 pounds in one week, and 20 over the next 3 months is
more realistic. Take this into consideration. Also, notice how your goals feed each other. Set goals that
complement each other, versus contradict each other. Be real with yourself about what you truly want, and
return to your vision when you goals seem like they may begin to contradict themselves. When you are
inline with your vision you will find that your goals actually help feed each other and working on one helps
create opportunities for another. After all, it is all you and a part of your Holistic Vision based on your
values!
TIMELY
This complements the Measurable check point. Make sure that your goals are done and achieved in a timely
manner. Refer to your goal list and action plan often. When making decisions about how to use your time
and resources use it as a reference and consider how your choice may or may not feed you. This will help
you stay inline with your vision and achieve and maintain the balance and level of satisfaction you desire.
WORKING TOP DOWN
In this next exercise you will work on planning your goals from the top down. This method will allow you to
slowly break your goals down into smaller goals, and eventually tasks. Ensuring that each level of your goals
follows the SMART guideline will create a new level of clarity for your goal at each level. By the time you
get to the task level goals, it should be clear to you how you can live in your purpose each day. You are on
your way to living inline with your vision and manifesting its reality.

ACTUALIZING: SETTING GOALS

Refer to your specific area vision map and the work you have done around your impact. Write a long term
goal that will allow you to have the impact you desire. Remember to be SMART about it. Next follow the
tree structure below in breaking your goal down into task level goals that you can begin implementing into
your life today.

Write out the steps you need to take to achieve each short-term goal. Be mindful of what you need in your
life for you to achieve them. Think first of the inner actualizing of practicing Acceptance, letting go of fears,
building your self-confidence. Include tasks that help address these areas as well as action-based tasks.

DURING THE WEEK

Reflections
1. Commit to changing one thing you do each day to recommit to your values and vision. You can continue
last weeks commitment or add a new one!
2. Try to be aware of your practice of Acceptance in your life; in each moment, in your relationships, and
with yourself.
Exercise
1. Continue practicing Insight Meditation every morning for at least 10 minutes. Spend at least 10 more
minutes journaling about how acceptance can and is working in your life. Journal before or after each
meditation session.
2. If there are goals that you set that require further research and inquiry. Use this week to do that. If you
need to go to the library, or to do internet research, make some phone calls, or have some conversations. Do
this. Next you will have a working session and a personal coaching session to help you finalize your action
plan in this area.
Note: I encourage you to do the exercises we did today for the other areas of your life. You now have the
tools to do impact-goal planning in any area of your life or issue that needs clarity. You will find them
invaluable in helping increase clarity, reduce worrying, and you living your joyful now!
