PRINCESS BRIDE
QUOTE-, FEAST- AND TOAST-ALONG WITH US THIS VALENTINES DAY AS WE CELEBRATE LOVE,
THE PRINCESS BRIDE AND THE LAUNCH OF OUR NEW LINE OF SIGNATURE WINES!
Action Pack:
THE PRINCESS BRIDE QUOTE-ALONG & FEAST
Dir. Rob Reiner, 1987, PG, 98 min
All Locations 2/14
Assss... Youuuu... Wishhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
This thoroughly tongue-in-cheek, forever quotable swashbuckling
fairytale is by far one of our all time favorite movies. How can it not
be? It involves a dread pirate, insanity-inducing clifs, a princess, a
wily Sicilian, a six-fngered count, ROUS (Rodents of Unusual Size), Fred
Savage, and, most importantly, LOVE!!!
We love this movie just as deeply as Westley loves his Buttercup, and so
when we were talking about launching our very own Alamo Signature
Wine collection, we immediately knew that we had to start with none
other than The Princess Bride. We partnered with the good people at
Helms Workshop to produce artwork for two varietals, and this February
we are pleased to introduce the world to The Bottle of Wits, featuring an
Inconceivable Cab and the As You Wish White!
These wines will be available throughout 2012 and only 2012, and theyll
be debuting on Valentines Day at our Princess Bride Quote-Along Feast
events. So come to the Alamo, cozy up with your very own personal
Buttercup or Westley, and indulge together in a sumptuous feast paired
with wines that are perfectly matched to the derring-do, sharp wit, and
butter-melting romance of the Princess Bride. While the feast itself
is only on Valentines Day, there will be Quote-Alongs at the Alamo
all month long. So if you cant make the feast you can still enjoy the
fairytale!

FOOD & FILM
GROUNDHOG DAY Dinner
GROUNDHOG DAY Dinner
Dir. Harold Ramis, 1993, 101 min, PG
LC 2/2
No we wont be serving the same dish over and over again. But youre close.
Chef John Bullington will craft each course using the same ingredients. Expect
a tour-de-force from the master. Bill Murray pulls of one of the great comedic
performances of all time in a flm conceived written and executed specifcally for
him. What would you do if you had to live the same day over and over again? You or
I would probably scream and go insane. Bill Murray, on the other hand, gets even
funnier. Its hard to imagine anyone who hasnt seen this classic at least once. But
ask yourself: isnt it time to see it again?
SO MUCH MORE THAN DINNER AND A MOVIE.
BEST IN SHOW w/ all-you-can-eat hot dogs
Dir. Christopher Guest, 2000, PG-13, 90 min
RZ 2/13
Christopher Guest has made some remarkable contributions to the satirical faux-
documentary genre but none have quite as many adults with braces as Best In
Show. This movie rips back the curtain on the oddball canine enthusiasts who
enter highly competitive dog shows with an ensemble cast of amazingly gifted
improvisers including Glees Jane Lynch and the incomparable Fred Willard. This
screening will feature all you can eat hot dogs (!!) and plenty of raucous laughing
when Willard suggests that the hounds improve their chances of winning by
wearing Sherlock Holmes hats and smoking little pipes. (John Gross)
VANISHING POINT Great Divide Beer Dinner
Dir. Richard C. Sarafan, 1971, R, 99 min
VL 2/21
Before Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, or Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,
there was Vanishing Point, the high performance car flm that left generations
wanting to buy a 1970 Dodge Challenger. For this screening, the Alamo Drafthouse
is teaming up with one of our favorite American craft breweries Great Divide, which
just so happens to be based in Denver Colorado where this ultimate car chase
movie begins.
Our anti-protagonist and his car have 15 hours to get from point A to B and along
they way they encounter naked hippies, racist cops, and a weirdo snake-loving
religious revival in the middle of the desert. All this, plus Cleavon Little as the
foods that add up to pure entertainment for all of your senses! (John Gross)
mystical radio disc jockey named Super Soul make for a must-see! Well be pairing
all of our favorite beers from Great Divides portfolio with gourmet, full-throttle

Rare 35mm screening!!
The most criminally overlooked of the 80s hip-hop flms! Kenny is just a poor
kid from the Bronx with dreams of making it big as a DJ in the citys swankiest
clubs. Into his life comes Tracy, an uptown girl and student at a fancy college who
inspires Kenny to follow his dreams. Will they overcome their diferences to love
each other? Will they realize all their fat lace hopes n dreamz? See fo yoself in
this drama about break dancing and big city dreamz set to a bangin old school
hip-hop soundtrack featuring joints by the by likes of Melle Mel, Doug E Fresh, Kool
Moe Dee, the Rocksteady Crew, and more!
MUSIC MONDAY
HIGH FIDELITY
Dir. Stephen Frears, 2000, R, 113 min, 35mm
RZ 2/13
Lovers of music, vinyl, lists, and John Cusack, celebrate V-Day a little early with us
as we screen this gem from way back in the impossibly futuristic-sounding year of
2000! The aforementioned Mr. Cusack stars as Rob, a Chicago record store owner
Thirtysomething and still struggling to come to terms with growing up, Rob gets
dumped by his smart and successful girlfriend for being so damn stunted. And
so Rob takes us through his top fve worst breakups and then tries to reconnect
with each to fnd out what went wrong. In between that and trying to win Laura
back, Rob and his record store cohorts listen to and discuss and a lot of fne tunes.
Adapted from Nick Hornbys well-loved novel, this celluloid mixtape of comedy,
drama, and pop music also features a pretty fne supporting cast including Joan
Cusack (natch), Lili Taylor (reunited from their SAY ANYTHING days!), Lisa Bonet
(!?), and Jack Black in his least obnoxious role ever.

THE FLAMING LIPS and THE SHINS
RZ 2/20
This 2004 episode of Austin City Limits is a split bill of cant-go-wrong indie pop,
headlined by the artsy rock spectacle of The Flaming Lips (including a little shaky
but nonetheless pretty amazing cover of Sabbaths War Pigs with Chan Marshall
helping out on vocals), followed by a more demure but equally entertaining set by
those clever n witty songsters, The Shins.

DR. BLACK & MR. HYDE
Dir. William Crain, 1976, 87 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/28
BLACK HISTORY MONTH SCREENING! A screamin demon rages inside, turnin him
into Mister Hyde. Dont give him no sass or hell kick yo ass! Sound advice from
the original ads for this schizoid blacksploitation shockbomb. The great Bernie
Casey plays gold-hearted Dr. Henry Pride, whos self-testing a serum to potentially
save thousands of lives. The only side efect is that it turns him into an albino
fend with a sweet tooth for prostitute cutlets. No biggie, except when our hooker-
hunting hero runs afoul of Silky the Pimp and his crew. Soon the dichotomous doc
unleashes an unstoppable frenzy of four-faced murder and mayhem. Investigating
ofcer Jackson was played by Ji-Tu Cumbuka, whose name actually translates to
Giant Man in his native Swahili. Violent and played for genuine terror, DR. BLACK
was director William Crains follow-up to the groundbreaking BLACULA, but this one
horror. And not just because Bernie Casey cruises the mean streets in a tricked-out
Rolls Royce. (Zack)
TERROR TUESDAY
PHANTASM II
Dir. Doc Coscarelli, 1988, 97 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/7
Almost a full decade after shocking and befuddling audiences with cerebral
nightmare epic PHANTASM, writer/director Coscarelli unleashed this infnitely more
amped-up braindamager. The elderly-but-omnipotent Tall Man (Angus Scrimm)
has returned to devour entire towns, transforming select victims into dwarven
fends to aid in his latent enslavement of the Earth. Mankinds only hope lies with
a bald ice cream vendor and a blowdried goof from an insane asylum. More gore,
more goop and more chainsaw-wielding, automobile-crushing, house-exploding
action than well see in another fright flm until Hollywood wises the hell up, and
Im not holding my breath. The very best horror movies prove that the human body
is a canvas and violence is the paintbrush, but PHANTASM IIs ambitious carnage
wins a gold star for excellence in creative homicide. No worries if youre new to the
series: a 30-second recap knocks things into place for the following 96 minutes of
full-tilt transdimensional antihuman dementia! (Zack)
PUMPKINHEAD
SPONSORED IN PART BY VULCAN VIDEO
EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE RITZ FOR JUST A BUCK!
PUMPKINHEAD
Dir. Stan Winston, 1988, 86 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/21
This movie details exactly why I dont piss of single dads that hang out with
witches. Monumentally undervalued character actor Lance Henriksen plays
Ed Harley, a hard luck ruralite whose adorable son Billy is fatally mangled by
carousing teen tourists. If this story was shot in 1977, that type of ofense would
call for some serious shotgun vengeance. But in the late-80s-tainted hands of
special efects wizard/frst time director Stan Winston, retribution takes the form of
a ten-foot tall demonoid conjured by hillbilly sorcery and thirsty for young blood.
And this isnt your everyday towering hellcritter; Winstons gargantuan white trash
boogeyman cuts through the bayou fog with all the nigh-Lovecraftian rage of a
dozen tentacled beasts drunk on Natty Ice. (Zack)
THE BURNING MOON
Dir. Olaf Ittenbach, 1992, 86 min, NR
RZ 2/14
Its Valentines Day. A time for Satanism. Disembowelment. Brains splattered across
a studded codpiece. Where most horror flms feature an identifable threat (i.e.
zombies, psychopaths, robots, etc), Ittenbachs shot-on-camcorder anthology
broadly pits man against the world, every inch of it drowning in rage and darkness.
Theres no reprieve from exploding heads, heroin needles, burning crucifxes and
slaughtered children. Power tools drill through clenched teeth, men devour their
own entrails, and any potentially sympathetic character quickly fnds themselves
penetrated by some unholy thing in some unmentionable place. One segment was
actually shot in Hell, and this scenes increasingly creative brutality culminates
with a mercilessly slowed shot thats more nauseating than anything in gore
cinemas past or future. THE BURNING MOON is clearly a product of its creators
boundless hatred of humanity. Theres no doubt that Ittenbach was destined to
either make this flm or rape wolves. (Zack)

SHANTY TRAMP
Dir. Joseph P. Mawra, 1967, 72 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/15
A rural southern gothic that really kicks you in the teeth. As if William Faulkner,
Flannery OConnor, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams and Harry Crews went on a
sloppy, bitter three-day drinking jag and this was found next to the typewriter by
the Creole maid who came in to clean up all the vomit and spilled bourbon. Youd
better believe theres enough incest, religious mania, dark secrets and Protestant
guilt here for a hundred regular movies. But this is no regular movie. The story of
a scheming no-good ho who brings nothing but trouble everywhere she goes. She
causes the downfall of a crooked revival preacher, falsely accuses an honest black
man of rape, and generally destroys the moral fber (however loosely woven) of a
small southern town. A kind of minor masterpiece with exceptional performances,
direction, photography, and script. From the director of OLGAS HOUSE OF SHAME.
WEIRD WEDNESDAY
CATHERINE & COMPANY
Dir. Michel Boisrond, 1975, 100 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/8
Lets talk about the French. Theres a lot of animosity directed towards France
from many Americans. Look closely at the reasons: they wouldnt let us fy over
their country to bomb some brown people. They opposed the war on Iraq in the
United Nations for some crazy reason. They work 32 hours a week. They drink more
wine and eat richer food than anyone on earth but stay thin by walking, bicycling
and fucking constantly. They respect American jazz music and honor our greatest
artists in a way that should make us feel ashamed. I dont know about you, but
considering all the evidence Id like to give France a trophy for #1 nation on earth.
They certainly make the best sex flms. This one is described as one big excuse for
having the willowy beauty (and Serge Gainsbourg inamorata) Jane Birkin take of
her clothes again and again as she plays a woman so desirable that she actually
legally incorporates her body and starts stacking francs. Excuse accepted! Written
by Catherine Breillat (ROMANCE, SLEEPING BEAUTY). (Lars)

THE BLACK ANGELS
Dir. Laurence Merrick, 1970, 87 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/1
Any time a genre becomes wildly successful, as did the biker flm genre after the
success of EASY RIDER, there are always tons of quick, cheap pictures that crop up
to satisfy audiences and exhibitors endless hunger for bookings. With the right
title and ad campaign even a movie as hilariously bad as THE BLACK ANGELS can
be fnancially successful. Which is amazing, because THE BLACK ANGELS is just
ludicrously terrible in every sense. While there are no stars in THE BLACK ANGELS,
there is dirt - truckloads of it. It covers every performer, every vehicle, every single
surface in the flm. Dirt is the star of the show. Before its all over you may fnd that
youve developed a real afection for the unbelievably overblown biker dialogue,
the terribly choreographed fghts, the atrocious rock ballads and so on. (Lars)
HIGH CRIME
Dir. Enzo G. Castellari, 1973, 100 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/22
This is the ultimate Italian cop movie. Number one. It would be hard to even start
an argument against it among enthusiasts of the form. Genre chameleon Enzo
Castellari always had a gift for directing violence - and the violence in this flm
can stand with anything before or since. Its easy to trace the commercial lineage
of the flm - its in the vein of DIRTY HARRY and THE FRENCH CONNECTION - but
the kinetic setpieces, the chases, shootouts and explosions take up 90% of the
screen time, with very little time devoted to boring exposition. If all action movies
were this exciting, nobody would get anything done. As the police inspector on the
verge of a cafeine OD, Franco Nero looks like hes going to explode, literally. Giant
blood vessels stand out of his forehead as he slaps the shit out of nearly everyone
he encounters. Featuring one of the most gruesome motorcycle murder/castration
scenes ever. Dont plan on getting a lot of sleep after watching this. See it! (Lars)

SL Mondays
If youre at all like me, you quote this movie every day, all through your regular life,
and at times you forget that some of the things you say all the time are actually
from the movie. Well from now on, that aggression will not stand, man, because
at long last The Action Pack has put together THE BIG LEBOWSKI Quote-Along and
we cant wait to see all of our Little Lebowski Urban Achievers out at the theater.
As always with a quote-along, all of your favorite lines will be subtitled karaoke-
style so it will be easy to yell out, Nobody fucks with the Jesus! at exactly the
right time (youre on your own for getting the accent, though). Well have bowling
pin beer available, a giant sized bowling game onstage before the flm, and a bunch
of props to help make the best moments of the flm come to life (including a bag
of Walters dirty whites). So, go pee on a strangers rug, pull the marmot out of
your bathtub, and come down to the Alamo and The Highball for our new weekly
tradition. Mark it 8, Dude. (Henri Mazza)

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. Is there a
more quotable line from ANY movie than that one? Well, that quote or maybe the
whole Mawwage thing...or I guess the As you wish is pretty iconic too. Oh gosh
darn it! Every line in The Princess Bride has been transformed from mere lines in
a script to gospel that melts even the coldest of hearts. Inconceivable you say?
Well the Action Pack challenges you to a duel of words with our Princess Bride
Quote-Along! Join Westley as he duels Vizzini and his crew, braves the dangers
of the fre swamp, and overcomes death for true love. Well have all your favorite
lines subtitled up on screen karaoke-style for your quoting pleasure, swords for
everyone to fght and dramatically switch hands with, as well as a Rescue Princess

But when they team up together theres no murder they cant solve or pro sports
corruption they cant unearth. Long before Shane (Lethal Weapon) Black was
writing and directing Iron Man III, he was turning out action movie gems for the

The Action Pack is loading up the pyro rig and inviting you out to an evening of in-
theater explosions, violence, friendship and topless dancers. Not to mention well

as it can warm even the coldest of heart, because no matter how many times Ive
seen this movie in a theater, it never fails to give me goosebumps.
So the Action Pack is putting its heart on its sleeve and inviting you to belt out all
your favorite tunes, quote your favorite lines and fash your diamond rings while
you shake your maracas at the Moulin Rouge Sing-Along. Well have props for

Ryan Gosling plays Noah, who takes one gander at Allie (Rachel McAdams) and
his goose is cooked. By the end of the movie there wont be a dry eye, or shoulder
(boyfriends: take note), in the house. For some of you, this is your chance to laugh
at that movie everyones been telling you about. For others, its an excuse to watch
Americas dreamiest man, Ryan Gosling, dressed in old-timey 1940s outfts! (Do
want!) Whatever your reason, Master Pancake will turn this into a hysterical night
you wont soon forget. (John)
Master Pancake Mystery Preview
VL 2/21
We cant tell you what movie well be mocking. And we wont be fnished writing
it. But for the ridiculous price of $3, how can you resist? Heres what we can tell
you: well be mocking a movie that were working on for our upcoming schedule.
Weve written a lot of jokes for it, but we havent written them all. And we want
you to help us fgure out what works, what doesnt, and maybe inspire us to come
up with some new ones. Youll get to see a Master Pancake show for cheap, before
anybody else gets to. So what if its not fnished yet? This is sure to be a fun time.

PRESENTING THE LATEST AND GREATEST RELEASES FROM
THE ALAMOS OWN DISTRIBUTION COMPANY!
COMIN AT YA! 3D
Dir. Ferdinando Baldi, 1981, 90 min, R
Opening February 24th
Now that 3D is back, we return to the great 3D Boom of the 80s and
the flm that started the whole ball rolling, COMIN AT YA!, the spaghetti
western classic now presented in a state of the art digital restoration.
This is the 3D movie that does exactly what you want a 3D movie to do.
It hits you with a ludicrous barrage of fying fsts, faming arrows, boobs,
and everything else you can imagine - including a truly unforgettable 3D
baby diaper changing scene. Its pure lowbrow fun all the way through,
more like an amusement park ride than a movie. Cool, laconic spaghetti
western icon Tony Anthony is thrust into a world of absurdly outsized and
protuberant frontier mayhem. Youll laugh, youll gasp, youll fail your
arms, and when its all over youll want to get back in line and see it again!
A shocking surprise hit when frst released in 1981, COMIN AT YA! is back
in this stunning digital restoration. The 3D gimmicks, already some of the
best ever flmed, are brighter, sharper and clearer than ever, the better to
terrorize you. Weve all seen lots of 3D movies by now. Some are subtle,
some are obvious, but none has ever been as much pure fun as COMIN
AT YA!

Girlie Night: THELMA & LOUISE
Dir. Ridley Scott, 1991, R, 130min, 35mm

Usually at Girlie Night, we swoon over epic romance and giggle over our cocktails.
But this month, were unleashing our inner badass along with the ultimate
renegades: Thelma and Louise! Role models of feminism and straight up awesome,
these two ladies showed us all that women should never be underestimated,
especially when theyre driving a 66 Thunderbird convertible. Susan Sarandon and
Geena Davis make the ultimate pair of feisty gals-turned-outlaws, drawling their
way through a spree of terrible men, Wild Turkey and wilder times. Together, well
fst pump through the ultimate road trip as Thelma and Louise teach us how to
school sexist pigs, take control of our lives and go out in a blaze of glory. And
speaking of glory, need I remind you of a young Brad Pitts shirtless appearance in
this flm? Hot damn! (Sarah Pitre)
Zzang!!!: COMING TO AMERICA
Dir. John Landis, 1988, 116 min, R, 35mm

he starred in the best African-prince-comes-to-the-free-world-to-work-at-a-

Hall (whoopwhoopwhoop!) joins a colorful cast of characters (half of which are
also played by Hall and Murphy thanks to make-up maestro Rick Baker) in this
R-rated masterpiece. The barbershop scenes alone will shatter your funny bone
into a trillion laughing pieces. I mean, this movie is so hilarious that James Earl
Jones is funny in itand that is one serious dude! And yes, of COURSE well have

epitome of a Big Screen Classic: Unforgettable characters in a captivating story
meant to be seen larger-than-life on the glorious big screen. And so it is with great

And thats not all! The flm is also augmented by a weird proto-TANGO & CASH
subplot featuring none other than Frank Stallone himself, alongside the fantastic
Paul L. Bluto Smith! The man behind this menagerie of malehood is unfamiliar to
most, but once youve experienced OUTLAW FORCE, youll not soon forget the name
of wildman David Heavener, who serves not only as director, but also producer, star,

What better way to continue our new Afternoon Tea series than with the
breathtaking romance and whimsical hijinks of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE? This
Academy Award-winning masterpiece is packed with beautiful people in beautiful
costumes doing beautifully dramatic things, and you can savor every gorgeous
moment with baked treats and fancy tea. Honestly, I can never decide whats
more stunning in this movie: Gwyneth Paltrow or Gwyneth Paltrows dresses. The
opulence of hotness continues with Joseph Fiennes, Rupert Everett and Colin Firth,
whose handsomeness cant even be defeated by his villainous character. And what
period piece would be complete without Judi Dench, who deserves her Oscar just
for successfully wearing that insanely massive royal ensemble. Join us for a classy
afternoon of glorious cinema and food so tasty, it might inspire you to write a

LATE SHOW
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
THE ROOM
Dir. Tommy Wiseau, 2003, 99 min, R, 35mm
RZ 2/17 & 2/18
Whether or not Tommy Wiseau intentionally shot his flm as a black comedy, or if
he is simply a completely inept flmmaker (and actor) is utterly irrelevant. THE ROOM
will stand the test of time as one of the most mind-bendingly awesome oferings
to ever drop from the celluloid heavens. Completely fnanced and distributed by
Mr. Wiseau, this divine piece of WTF-ery has built a cult following playing midnight
screenings across the country and solidifed its place as the CITIZEN KANE of
terrible movies. The Guardian described it as a mix of TENNESSEE WILLIAMS, ED
WOOD AND R. KELLYS TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET. Thats about as apt a description as
we could possibly provide.
SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona
Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the
path to Ms. Flowers isnt covered in rose petals. Ramonas seven evil exes stand
between Scott and true happiness. From the ever-changing tint of Ramonas
candy-colored locks to the unmatched video game graphics, SCOTT PILGRIM VS.
THE WORLD is a ton of fun to watch.

SL 2/8
With special guest speaker from the United States Holocaust

American responses to the death camps by Peter Bergson, and the experiences of
a woman fghting for survival in Theresienstadt and Auschwitz.
