A car of total mass M stands at rest on level ground. The car is symmetric left and right so that wheels on the left side can be considered equivalent to the wheels on the right side. The distance between the front and the rear wheels is l, and the center of mass of the car is located at height h above the ground, and at horizontal distance lr from the rear axel. When the car moves forward with acceleration a, the total normal reaction on the front and rear wheels are Three small spheres A, B and C of masses 2m, m and 2m respectively are fixed on a light rigid rod. The spheres A and C are attached to the either of the ends and sphere B t the midpoint of the rod as shown in the figure. The assembly is placed on a horizontal smooth plane. At the instant t = 0, a constant horizontal force F is applied on sphere A in a direction perpendicular to the rod. (a) How long the sphere will slide on the floor before it starts rolling without sliding (pure rolling).

(b) How far the sphere will slide on the floor before it starts pure rolling. (c) Find the linear and angular velocities of the sphere when it starts pure rolling. (d) Find the work done by frictional forces during the process and thereafter. (e) If the sphere were given an initial reveres spin o, under what condition it will return to the initial point.
10 Consider the disk A of moment of inertia I1 rotating freely in horizontal plane about its axis of symmetry

with angular velocity o. Another disk B of moment of inertia I2 held at rest above the disk A. The axis of symmetry of the disk B coincides with that of the disk A as shown in the figure. The disk B is released to land on the disk A. When sliding stops what will be the angular velocity of both the disks?

11 Consider two identical disks A and B with their axis of symmetries horizontal. Both of them can rotate

about their axis of symmetry freely. Initially the disk A is rotating with angular velocity o in clockwise direction. Both of them are brought closer gently to touch each other. When slipping stops what will be the angular velocity of each of the disks?
o is placed gently in the corner made by a floor and a wall. Denoting the coefficient of kinetic friction between the sphere and the wall and the floor by k, derive an expression for the time required for the sphere to come to rest.
