CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

A. Internship Background Expertise Internships Practice Expertise is a curricular activities that are packed in a course that practice of Non-Education Field Work. This curriculum is a process of student learning that takes place in the world of work. This activity aims to equip students with practical skills that situation and the real working conditions were not obtained in universities, so students are expected to better understand and have skills in a discipline. The result of activity of this will be one of the terms and decisive aspect for the success of students graduated at the Faculty of Economics, State University of Padang. Each student is required to follow the intern FE UNP expertise that is by carrying out real work in the business industry and government agencies. This is an internship expertise of the many existing courses in FE UNP. Students must earnestly for the implementation of an internship to work with maximum expertise. Internship-expertise is a form of student learning process that supports educational programs at the faculty of Economics and practical technical programs found in the field. Implementation of professional education that combines in a systematic and synchronized between mastery program expertise gained through direct experience in the workplace that lead to the achievement of certain levels of professional expertise. Through this internship expertise hope there is a match between the theory we have learned in college with real activities in the industrial world. On the other hand there is need strategies between a business and educational institutions in improving the quality of human resources, especially at higher education level.

In addition, to determine the understanding of the activities carried out, students also must write a report containing the activities they do in the world of business, industry and government office where the student will carry out an internship expertise. The information carried by students will be analyzed theoretically, after they returned from the practice of apprenticeship. In addition, such information can also be used as the basis for the study of link and match between the world of education and the workplace. B. Internship Objectives Expertise Implementation of intern skills in the workplace is a form of debriefing of student knowledge gained in the working world with the aim of: 1. Getting a link and match between the theory in college, with practice in the world of business and industry. 2. Improving the learning process through education and training of professional quality work on the actual working conditions. 3. Enhancing knowledge through real work experience gained in the world of work and industry, which will be faced in finding employment after completing education at the faculty of Economics State University of Padang. C. Benefits of Apprenticeship Skills 1. Produce graduates who have professional expertise (with the level of knowledge and skills in work ethics in accordance with employment guidance) 2. As the feedback in making curriculum improvements that are relevant to employment needs.

CHAPTER II PT. HEINZ ABC INDONESIA

A. Vision And Mission Of PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia  Vision o Become the leading food and beverage companies that excel in innovation, quality and value.  Mission o Build a work environment where employees are highly motivated to fight in the form of high performing team HAI (based on trust, a healthy debate, commitment, accountability and achievement results of the group) which can go beyond the desire of the stakeholders

B. Overview Of PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia HJ. Heinz Company is a food company which headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. This company had been operating in 114 countries all around the world. HJ. Heinz Company is a brand holder of branded food products which are number one on the market position and number two in more than fiftys countries. The sales volume per year fiscal 2004 was U.S $8.4 billion, the company have a number of employees in globally are 45.800 peoples. These successes are supported by its founders philosophy which is Do the Common Things Uncommonly Well Will Bring Successes ABC is one of the strongest food products in Indonesia, and its known by customers from all classes and all ages. ABC brand has a dominant position as market leader in several products, such as: y y Ketchup Chili sauce

Other food products which are owned by the partners using the brand of ABC is ABC President Instant Noodles.

C. History Of PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia HJ. Heinz Company was founded by Henry John Heinz (HJ Heinz) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The product debut was Radish (Horseradish) in a transparent bottle. HJ. Heinz commitment is to produce high quality products, with a transparent bottle packaging so that customers can see the authenticity of its products. The next product is pickles, sauerkraut and vinegar. In 1875 the company suffered financial difficulties, so it must start over from the scratch. Various new products were introduced such as : tomato sauce, chili sauce, red and green chili, vinegar apples, sweet pickles, and canned red bean. In 1886, HJ. Heinz and his family sailed to England and ten years later the first foreign office was inaugurated in the near Tower of London. Sadly, in 1919 HJ. Heinz died and was succeeded by his own son Howard, who introduced the scientific process and quality control in production system. The first acquisition was happened in 1958 which is food producer in Netherlands and a few years later followed in Portugal and Mexico. William R Johnson (Bill Johnson) was inaugurated as president in 1996. CEO 1998 and Chairman in 2000. He continues his strategy of international development by taking over some of the Heinz Company in Various Countries, i.e.: Netherlands, Indonesia (1999), Philippines, Costa Rica, China and others.

In 1975 ABC Central Food was founded as a manufacturer of soy sauce in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta. And they added their product in 1978 with drinks and syrups. In 1981 the second factory was established in Surabaya, East Java to produce soy sauce and syrups. The third factory was build on 1992 in Karawang, and in 1994 the Karawang factory started to operate with a sophisticated machinery to produce chili sauce, tomato sauce, syrups, and beverage cans. The factory in Surabaya was moved to the Pasuruan in 1995. And in 1999 ABC doing a Joint Venture with HJ. Heinz Company under the name PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia with an option 75-25

Obstacles and Constraints Enteringthe new world ofwork wouldhave encountered difficulties in adapting to the mechanism of action, systematizing the work, as well as with personnel who are in the work environment. Such constraints include the adjustment of the theory of learned lectures and their application in the work environment.

In implementing this Practice Internship, many authors relate and adapt employees and personnel of different characters. Each employee has

a different character, different occupations and different disciplines, so in

this case, the writer must be able to overcome this problem the best way possible. B. Apprenticeship Expertise in The Company Activities conducted by the author during an expertise internship at PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia, precisely at the Human Resources division is to help each set of tasks and functions of Human Resources Department in the project. Those are:

Recruitment Of Employees

o This is one of the most fundamental roles of the HR Department. This is because this function ensures that the Company under consideration selects the most skillful and competent person from a sea of applicants at that time. This function involves evaluation of ability and competency of potential employees in relation to what company needs. This role falls under the staffing role of management.

Improvement of Compensation Packages

o One of the major function of HR department is to motivate employees. This can be done trough rewards especially for those who have done well. The HR department needs to evaluate performances of employees and those who have exceeded expectations should be compensated for their actions. These compensation packages can come in the following ways :

Planning in the Organization

o The Human Resources Development is placed with the responsibility of adequately for all ensuring that the it plans future organizations

The department must ensure that staff members are not too many because if they are exceed this amount, then the organization stand to lose. It must plan adequately to ensure that staff members are not too few either, otherwise they will be overworking those who are already in place.

The first step of the process is observation, in this step Human Resources finds out what makes up or what the companys culture is like. The second step is HR should try to eliminate all inhibitions in staff members minds. The last step is the analysis of various aspects.

CHAPTER IV CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS 1. Conclusions From apprenticeship expertise that has been the author did for about 40 days working on the PT. Heinz ABC Indonesia, , the authors can conclude that: y Internship program expertise is fundamentally a pattern of providing knowledge and skills that provide a significant contribution to students as a form of implementing the activities that are actually in the business world. y parties are in the circle of this responsibility must be able to work together and uphold the culture within the company to be able to give a good image in the eyes of society. y Internships expertise can enhance students' knowledge through real work experience gained in the workplace . y All parts of the company perform their duties and functions in accordance with the regulations set by the company. Results of activities of the internship can be a decisive aspect for the success of students in practice disciplines owned.

2. Suggestion For the Faculty of Economics, State University of Padang. a. Prior to execution of apprenticeship should be given adequate briefing to the students to use as guidelines in carrying out an internship. b. Should the Faculty of Economics, State University of Padang sends more students to intern outside West Sumatra, in order to increase work experience and create a bond of good cooperation between companies, faculty and students.
