WELCOME TO THE 2012 SEASAC TENNIS TOURNAMENT It is my pleasure to welcome players from Bangkok Patana, the Canadian International

School Hong Kong, Mont Kiara Kuala Lumpur, NIST Bangkok, Tanglin Trust Singapore, Ruamrudee Bangkok, Garden International School Kuala Lumpur, the British International School Jakarta and NIST Bangkok to UWC South East Asia for the SEASAC Tennis Championships. The nature of competitive sport remains a topic of discussion in many schools, and in many countries. However, competition addresses a basic human desire to stretch ourselves to the limit of our potential. As a runner I have been struck by the fact that before Roger Bannister ran a four-minute mile in 1954, no one believed it was possible. The following year 37 people managed it; the year after that there were 300 more. Banister didnt just change what we thought he could do. He changed what we thought anyone could do. Encouraging young people to broaden the horizons of their ambition is vital and competitive sport plays a major role in making that happen. Win or lose I hope that all competitors in this competition will see that we are all capable of a great deal more than we ever thought possible. With my warmest regards Frazer Cairns Head of Campus UWCSEA Dover

Welcome to the 2012 SEASAC Tennis Championships. We hope you enjoy the competition and your stay in Singapore. Over the years, this event has a tremendous tradition of high-level competition, played in a respectful and fair manner. With 9 teams in both the boys and the girls events, this is the largest tennis Championships held so far and we look forward to furthering these sporting goals again this year. The event will be held on two campuses; United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA), Dover Campus and; Singapore American School Campus, Woodlands. We should thank the American School (SAS) for lending us its excellent court facilities for the event as we could not have run the Championships with so many teams, without their support. Please find a few additional pieces of information below to help your organisation and ease your stay in Singapore. I look forward to meeting you all personally and hope you have a superb two days of competitive tennis here in Singapore Mike Staples Director of Sport, Expeditions and Activities UWCSEA Dover

Schools may take a reserve player that can play #3 singles or #2 doubles at any time in the tournament from one match to another but not in the middle of a match. In the case if an injury, the injured player will be removed and the seeding will be moved up accordingly (e.g. if #1 is injured #2 moves to #1, #3 moves to #2 and the alternate replaces them directly.) NOTE any player who is replaced will not be eligible for an All-Tournament award. Coaching is only allowed during change of ends. This will be a maximum of 80 seconds. Coaching is not allowed during toilet breaks, set breaks, medical time outs, when a player is seeking referee assistance or the player is taking time for a clothing or equipment adjustment. Coaching is considered to be communication, advice, or instruction of any kind, audible or visual to a player. Players will be seeded by their own coaches, and equivalent seeding paired up for matches. It is stressed that this system depends upon the integrity of the coaches in ranking their own players. Seeding will be finalized at the Coaches Meeting, and must be adhered to subsequently. Players call their own lines. If there is a disagreement that the players cannot resolve themselves, then the tournament director can be called in to help resolve the situation. If players continue to have problems, then the tournament director or neutral designee will umpire the remainder of the match. Scheduling: The schedule is an estimate of match times.
