DBTopic#00: Introduction &Check-In E1A Course Introduction & Check-In Assignment Welcome to Spring 2012 English 1A!

If you are able to access your COD student email and log onto Blackboard successfully, then congratulations! You are already off to a good start! Your first assignment is really a check-in to the class and materials. Please log onto Blackboard and review the available Course Buttons, (Announcements, Prof. Es Contact 411, Syllabi, etc., Textbook 411, and Discussion Board), to familiarize yourself with the basic layout of our class site. Once you have the hang of things, please review and print/save a copy of the Course Syllabus and Blackboard Student Guide for help in completing the first Discussion Board Topic (DB Topic) assignment on our Discussion Board forum. You will need to follow the detailed instructions for this assignment as given in the DBTopic#00: Introduction &Check-In forum. Please review and print/save a copy of the Course Syllabus and Blackboard Student Guide for help in completing this assignment. These documents are available in the Syllabi, etc. button. There are three parts to this assignment: part 1 refers to the Course Syllabus; part 2 refers to the Blackboard Student Guide, and; part 3 is a general introduction to your professor and classmates. Part 1: Course Syllabus. For each section, or combined sections, of your syllabus given below, please summarize in your own words (1-3 sentences max) AND ask 1 question about: 1. Professor/class contact information (under Spring 2012 English 1A banner) 2. Course Description and Course Student Learning Outcomes and Course Objectives (combined sections count as oneoverall summary and one overall question needed only) 3. Required Text and Recommended Text 4. Coursework Requirements 5. The Virtual Classroom (incl. Blackboard Learning Management System at COD and MLA/APA Resources) 6. Student/Faculty Interaction (incl. Communication Expectations) 7. Student Email 8. Attendance Policy 9. Technology Requirements (incl. Student Must-Haves and Technical Support Information) 10. Honestly Policy and Student Conduct Part 2: Blackboard Student Guide. Please review and print/save a copy of the Blackboard Student Guide and in 1-3 paragraphs summarize: a) what previous knowledge did the BSG review and; b) what new knowledge did the BSG cover for you? What are your long-term goals and how does COD fit into those? What are the biggest assets you bring to your experience at COD? 7. How involved are you in the world around you? Discuss any/all outside interests you have that demonstrate your engagement with the world of pop culture, politics, science, music, literature, etc., etc., that you feel are relevant. 8. Do you consider yourself an expert in anything? If so, then whatconversely, if not, then why not? 9. What is your level of comfort with reading, writing, analytical thinking? 10. Name at least one for each of the following: the name of the last book you read; your favorite song/musician; your favorite TV show/movie; the last museum/show you visited; a local cultural event you attend/participate in. Your responses to all three sections of this assignment are due on our DB no later than MIDNIGHT, 31 January 2012.
