Te planning and execution of a successful wedding is all about making informed decisions. And lets face it, after
he says, Will you marry me? and you say, I thought youd never ask! its not about making one important
decision anymore. Its about making a million important decisions that will impact your health, fnances and
your relationship with family and friends.
A wedding is about union. Its about committing to your partner in body, mind and spirit. Its about changing
your concept of self from Me to We. Tis huge shift in lifestyle afects your psyche and your nervous system.
Trow in a bunch of new in-laws, career pressures, social expectations and a fxed budget then watch your stress
level escalate before you even set the date for your nuptials.
It may seem like a daunting task to plan a beautiful wedding, but actually it can be quite fun. Confusion and
excitement go hand-in-hand and its simply a matter of allowing both to work together. All growth originates
from a place of confusion. Confusion arises because changes are occurring and a myriad of options are vying for
frst-place importance in your decision-making process. In other words, when your mind is flled with too many
choices, confusion sets in, you go into stress overload mode then shut down. But when you step back and see
life as a journey, youll realize youre not alone. Many couples before you have successfully walked the path of
wedding planning and marriage. Help is available.

among the competition!
Be sure to bring your date book when you come to the Dreams Show this year because you may want to schedule
appointments, hire a photographer, videographer, consultant or band. Plan to arrive early so you can make the
rounds once, catch the fashion shows, entertainment, sample the food and have time to return to your favorite
booths a second time. Wear comfortable walking shoes and come with friends and family who are signifcant
decision-makers in the planning of your wedding.

I Now Pronounce You
Stress-Free
Have you been dreaming about your wedding day since you were 7 years old? Did you meticulously plan out
every detail in your mind including your exquisite gown and the black tuxedo and purple bow tie your Prince
Charming was going to wear? You probably even drew honeymoon pictures of you and your handsome beau
gazing into each others eyes with the Swiss Alps playing backdrop to your childhood fantasy. Tere is one thing
you probably forgot to factor into this idyllic love story: stress.
Today you are a grown woman, the engagement ring on your fnger is real, the date is set and the pressure is on.
Its up to you to make this dream wedding come true. Are you reeling in despair from the thought of this huge
responsibility? Not yet? Toss in budgets, contracts, unexpected obstacles and uncooperative family members. Did
your sanity level soar into stress overload mode?
Good news! Stress is an option when planning your wedding, not a given. Tat means you have the choice to buy
into it or arm yourself with awareness and choose solutions that support your happiness and well-being. We all
know that when we are under stress we are in a fght/fight response state. In this call-to-action state our bodies
release a hormone called cortisol. Too much cortisol in our system over an extended period of time depresses
our immune systems, weakens our memories, causes sleeplessness, lower sperm count and high levels of anxiety,
depression and fear. Our decision-making abilities are severely afected which leads us to react to people and
situations in ways we often later regret. It also makes us old.
How can you be stress-free when planning your big day? Money is one of the major causes of stress, so make a
realistic budget and rigidly stick to it. You could also do some efective time management and organization, write
a job list, let go of being a control freak and delegate everything possible to family and friends who want a piece
of the action. And dont be too proud to ask for help! Others may not get the job done exactly how you would do
it, but its not about perfection, its about creating a beautiful celebration of love to share with friends and family.
And speaking of love . . . Strategies are an efective way to manage stress but LOVE is the only way to eliminate
it. Researchers at the Institute of HeartMath in Boulder CA have shown that the hearts electrical feld has 40
60 times more amplitude than that of the brain. And, the magnetic feld of the heart is 5,000 times stronger
than the magnetic feld produced by the brain. Tis is signifcant proof that the heart rules. Stress comes from the
head, loves comes from the heart. You cant think, plan or strategize your way out of stress, but you can love your
way into happiness.
Next time you feel overwhelmed by to-do lists, seating arrangements and in-laws, just remember that your
wedding is about the union of 2 people in love. Ten let your hearts electromagnetic feld do the rest. I
guarantee your stress will instantly melt away, your cortisol level will drop and that genuine smile will return to
your face. You may even be surprised to see that everyone around you will be calmer and more cooperative. Yep,
its that simple when you remember that its all about love!

About the Artist
Sonali Jain was born in India. She earned her BA and MA in Economics from Lucknow University. Jain also earned a diploma in Fashion
Design from George Brown College. She currently resides in Oakville, Ontario.
Jain has been drawing and painting throughout her life, often bringing home prizes from art festivals. As a child, her passion for art was so
strong that her parents recall Jain helping other competitors after fnishing her own paintings.
While other children would use their allowance to buy candy and ice cream, Jain remembers saving her money to buy art supplies at the lone art
store in her town. Although her interest in art continued to rise, demands from higher education reduced her artistic productivity. After producing
wonderful living art (Jain has three children aged 6-13), she has recently been drawn back to the passion of her youth: painting and drawing.
Jains style and infuences have varied over time. She enjoys painting still life and abstract, and prefers working with oil and acrylic. A recent visit
to the grand galleries of Europe has kindled an interest in impressionism and renaissance styles. Jain presently teaches painting to both children
and adults. She also accepts commissions for paintings and murals. She is looking forward to a gallery presentation of her work in the future.

How to encourage him to be a
better husband?
Communication, patience, and lot of love can help you in convincing your
husband to do some changes in his behavior. Which can make both of your
lives better and smooth.
Lets fnd out some tips on this matter.
1. Let him do his things.
If he wants to do some of the house keeping, let him do it. If you refuse and say that you want to take care of them, or
you want to do in your way he will never do thing in the house. Even if you are not happy with the things he has done
in the house, praise him and stimulate him to do it also next time. Most of the time it is fun working together. You will
fnd the suitable moments to remediate the problems.
2. Encourage him.
Appreciate his eforts both at work and at home, no matter if some times you might exaggerate. Te secret is that men
are reserved in accepting praises they think they dont deserve so that they will try to do things better next time.
3. Tell him to bring you owers.
Some times (or say most of the times) you have to tell him what you like. When your husband is out, its the better way
to ask him to buy your favorite fowers. If you do this several times, you will be very surprised to see that, next time, he
will bring you fowers from his initiative.
4. Ask him to help you.
Even if he says, as most do, that he doesnt know what to do, explain him patiently and if it is possible monitories
him. On the contrary, he will either get nervous, or he will give up and you will have to continue the job. But always
encourage him.
5. Help him without him to know it.
Mark down in his mobile phone some special days such as your birthday, your wedding anniversary day but also important
days for his mother. Set the phone alarm so that it remembers him these important events two-three days before.
6. Be friend with your mother in law.
If your husband has a sister, try to be very friendly with her too. Tey are your allied in any problems you might have
with him. Some times sister-in-law can be your best friend.
7. Try to mediate a good relationship between your husband and your parents.
Usually, a good relationship between son in law and mother in law is easier to be obtained than one between you and your
mother-in-law. If you can, try to help them have a better relationship, as it will be of use for both of you, in the future.
8. Relaxing Moments
No matter how busy you are, try to convince him make time for some romantic moments shared only in two. If these
moments will be pleasant for both of you, he will always have a positive response regarding your ideas for some relaxing
moments.

You said yes. Youre wearing
the ring. You set the date. You are
now ready to plan your wedding.
Or are you?
For todays modern bride, wedding
planning is no longer an easy exercise.
Professional wedding planners can
be expensive, and attempting to
plan the event while also juggling
the demands of a full time job can be
daunting.
Thats why a growing number of brides
are choosing to have a destination
wedding, and Ontarios cottage
country is a trendy, convenient and
affordable choice.
Dianne Hounsome, the owner of
Bayview Wildwood Resort on Sparrow
Lake, says that there are a number
of reasons why a wedding should be
hosted at a Muskoka resort.
First, resort weddings offer a
unique location and a myriad of
customized wedding packages are
available. Most urban venues offer
limited menu and dcor options.
With a lakeside wedding, we can
offer a wide variety of themes and
packages.
The third reason why resort weddings
make sense is because wedding
guests love the excuse to get away
for the weekend. Theres no better
way to ensure that everyone on your
invitation list will want to attend than
to tell them you are hosting your
wedding at a resort, says Dianne.
Most importantly, says Dianne, a resort
wedding allows the bride and groom to
relax and have fun. I think a lot of
city weddings have become too formal
and high stress for the bride, says
Dianne. Here, our wedding couple
can still host a very elegant affair but
relax in our natural setting and have
fun at the same time. I call it the lake
effect. Being by the water will sooth
the wedding jitters out of any couple.
Bayview Wildwood Resort is located
just 90 minutes north of Toronto.
The short drive from the city
makes it easy to do a site visit and
if necessary a final pre-wedding
planning meeting at the property.
The resort is located on Sparrow
Lake in a calm and private inlet. In
every season, the lake provides a
magnificent backdrop.
The historic resort offers a large indoor
function room as well, and a wide
variety of guest accommodations, from
standard hotel rooms to ve bedroom
historic houses.
Bayview Wildwood is renowned for
providing exceptional food and beverage
service, as well as excellent customer
service. Attentive staff recognize that a
wedding is a very special and important
day for a bride and groom, and ensure
no detail is overlooked. The resort staff
will also work on a complementary basis
with companies such as Imagine Grand
Holidays, which specializes in planning
multicultural weddings.

affordable and unique a cottage country

Wedding traditions
Article chosen By Valerie Pinard-Jain
Wedding is perhaps the most important occurrence in the life of any person whether man or woman besides a child
birth. It augurs the beginning of a new phase in the life and one enters into a joint life leaving behind his or her lonely
life. However wedding traditions vary from country to country and from place to place. It is dependent also to a large
extent on the culture and traditions in the society concerned. Tere was a time when these diferences where minimal
as the Groom came from the same village or just a short horse-ride from the Brides home. But with population
displacements, there is more of an opportunity to meet and fall in love with someone from a diferent culture. How
you negotiate these diferences in preparing for your wedding is only the beginning. Tese cultural diferences will be
addressed again and again during your marriage, from how to name your child to which holidays are celebrated.
Geographical variations also results in multiple variations in the wedding traditions. For instance, the traditions in
America are not the same as in Japan and the traditions in Africa are not like Australia. India and China have their
respective unique traditions; whereas many other Asian and African countries follow the Muslim traditions. Even within
large countries like China, India, United States, and Russia, the traditions relating to wedding varies from place to place.
Diferent religions have diferent wedding traditions. Performance of the marriage varies in every religion though one
thing is common as every religious clan considers marriage as an auspicious occasion.
In Christian marriage the tradition is for the bride and groom to move to the church where the wedding priest
goes through the rituals rendering the couple husband and wife in presence of guests, friends, and relatives
including the best friend.
In Muslim marriages, the tradition is something diferent. Tere the prospective couple is brought to one place
separated by a screen. Te Mullah asks the prospective bride whether she agrees to the relationship and only
if she agrees, the marriage takes place. If the prospective bride fails to agree within three calls, the marriage or
Nikah as it is called by the Muslim people wont take place.
Among the Hindus, the wedding tradition is perhaps the longest and most complex. However, the main part
of it is the bride and groom circling burning fre seven times (in some societies it could be only three times)
and exchange of garlands. But the tradition is that the preparations and preludes start much prior to actual
wedding with Mangni and such others that is a decision to have the marriage performed.
Besides diferences in wedding traditions there are also some interesting superstitions which you could borrow:
Greeks believe that having sugar cubes inside the gloves will sweeten the union of the bride and groom.
English people believes that spiders in wedding dress bring good luck for the couple.
According to an English tradition, the ideal day for marriage is Wednesday.
Te tradition of the groom carrying the bride across threshold has emanated from the belief that it will keep away
the evil spirits.
Hindus consider rainfall on the wedding day as the symbol of luck. But so are henna paintings in Middle East,
silver coins in Sweden and peas thrown in Czechoslovakia.
Even if you are not planning a multi-cultural wedding, wouldnt be fun to borrow a few traditions or to make up your own?

TIPS FOR SUMMER MAKE-UP
Who doesnt love summer with all the pleasures it brings: a lot of
sun, the beach and the sea, beautiful suntanned bodies all over the
place. Unfortunately the heat and the humidity are real challenges
for your make-up so some changes must be done in this case.
use a make-up basis after hydrating the face and before using
the make-up. Te make-up basis is light and helps the make-up
last more.
Dewy face with the lightest veil of translucent powder is the
right summer look.
use a light make-up. As you are used to wear gauzy shirts
and linen trousers during summer, the make-up should also
be simple and refreshing. You should replace the hydrating
foundation with a solar protection cream. Tese kind of
creams allow the complexion remain fresh and wont permit
the appearance of folds on your face. If you feel the need of an
additional protection you can use a powder.
Try practicing the natural suntan! Suntan creams can be used
only on the sensitive places such as the forehead, the chin,
cheeks or the nose. If you use them all over your face youll
obtain an artifcial look. Dont forget to use suntan creams also
on the neck and on the ear lobes especially if your hair isnt
long.
Dont hesitate using vibrating colors when you make-up. Beside
the colorful clothes used in summer, light colors used in case of
a make-up will give you a young look.
Gold shimmer under brows or across cheekbones can be a
luxury you can use.
Avoid Lip line.
A lot of women use all kind of lip balms and glosses, which are
adequate for summer. You can also use colored lip balms, which
hydrate, protect and color your lips.
Wear only natural nude shades as lip colors while going out to
the beach. If you cannot resist the temptation of using liquid
lipstick while on the honeymoon in a tropical island, keep it
inside the cooler for your soda or carry it in a pot or tube with
a wand.

Some might say the wedding cake is the focal
point of the reception, as the bride is the focal
point of the wedding. Wedding cakes now a
days can range anywhere from $300-$1000 plus.
So what is it about a cake that adds to your
already very special day? Well these days they
are elaborate constructions using pillars,
running water fountains, extraordinary detail
work and wonderful, endless avours and
colours.
Brides and grooms select their cake design
based on the theme of their wedding, dcor of
the reception or to atter the already so beauti-
ful wedding gown. However, the new trend
these days are themed cakes where they tell a
story of the couples history or share a hobby or
interest. For example, we had designed a cake
for a professional tennis player couple. Their
venue, dcor, food etc were all very traditional
and elegant. The bride however had her own
ideas for the cake. She asked to make tennis
balls all over the cake as well as custom made
tennis ball bride and groom toppers to compli-
ment the couples love for tennis. So why not
think outside of the box? These days dierent is
the new craze.
Remember, choosing a design for your cake
doesnt have to be stressful. It can be a wonder-
ful bonding experience for couples. It is also
possibly the one time where the bride and
groom can combine their thoughts, express
their ideas and both get what they want in one
small, yet tasty package!
There are many ways to have a beautiful, unique,
and eye catching cake without having to break
your wallet. The following tips will help guide
you into making the right decision when it
comes to the design, dcor, size, and of course,
the amount you wish to spend on your cake:
1) The cake doesnt always have to feed the
exact number of guests attending. Keep in mind
that some guests will not even eat the cake and
there will also be a lot of wastage. Also, if you are
providing a variety of desserts at the reception,
having the cake as well might be too much. My
suggestion, order a cake that will feed approxi-
mately 50-60 people less than the amount attend-
ing.
2) Bigger is not necessarily better when it
comes to cakes. Small cakes can be just as lovely
and eye pleasing as a 7 tier cake. If you decide to
go bigger, take a moment to think if it is absolutely
necessary that the cake must feed all the guests.
You have the option of having fake tiers. These
tiers are not cake, however are fully decorated as
the rest of the cake. This concept can signicantly
bring down the cost of your cake.
3) Although sugar owers look and taste
amazing, they can be a very costly cake topper or
dcor to the cake. Think of using fresh owers or
take it a step further and use silk owers! They look
just as great and if the right type of ower is used,
can make for a beautiful display.
4) Bring colour swatches, patterns, pictures
and even your wedding dress to your cake consul-
tation to help the decorator provide you with as
many options and ideas as possible.
So why not have your cake and eat it too? Having a
cake can be fun, colourful, innovative, unique and
mesmerizing. It can add oomph and excitement
to an already exciting day while at the same time
tickling those many taste buds with wonderful
exhilarating avours. If simple and traditional is
your cup of tea, I say go for it! If wild and whimsical
is your fortay, I say go for it! Whatever your style,
dcor or budget may be, I say, the cake must go
on!

The Indian Brides Checklist
Article chosen By Valerie Pinard-Jain
Every wedding is special. Its a day every girl looks forward to and on this day she wants to look nothing less than perfect.
Literally countless ceremonies, meeting with relatives and several other activities can often make the bride overlook certain
details. Having a checklist in hand can make things much easier to remember
1.Wedding outft Make sure that your wedding attire is ready and packed in a plastic bag or kept in a secure place and out
of childrens reach. Check the dress for any damage the day before so that any repairs can be done.
2.Wedding Jewelry Bridal jewelry is mostly made on order and is often quite expensive. You should always ensure that it
is kept locked away in a safe or have a trusted relative in charge. Also insure that there are no missing stones or anything that
might require any minor repairs the day before the ceremony.
3.Footwear It would be advisable if you keep your footwear along with your bridal ensemble. Lovely footwear which is
uncomfortable maybe a distraction. Some practical brides get a second pair as a back-up.
4.Make-up Kit Make sure you have your own make-up kit ready and kept in place where nobody can access it or use it. You
might need some touch up even after your bridal make-up. If you a tendency to sweat, this shouldnt be overlook.
5.Bridal Make-up Nowadays, several beauty salons ofer bridal make-up packages and some will send someone to your
home. Make sure that you confrm your appointment and how much time that youll need. Also, dont wait for the last to get
your mehendi done.
6.Safety-pins Many would consider it as something way too small a thing to be put into a checklist. But most brides still
choose to wear a lehenga or a heavy saree for their wedding. And the weight of these lehengas or sarees is usually in
kilograms. Such heavy clothes can only be kept in place using safety pins. We also know the of a case of a brides gown ripping
because someone had placed a foot on her outft. Fortunately several mausies came to the rescue with their safety pins.
7.Diet Eat your usual diet on your wedding day. Dont skip your meals; itll cause your blood sugar level to dip. Its going to
be a long day and youll need lots of energy to see it of.
8.Water Drink lots of water and fuids. A shortage of water can often show up on your face, taking away some of your radiance.
9.Sleep With out of town guests, well-wishers and an evening of Mehendi, you may be tempted to go to bed later then usual.
Let your family take care of everything and enjoy a good night of rest. Tomorrow is your big day, after all.
10.Smile Most brides forget it on their wedding day. Tey are so emotionally overburdened that they often forget to keep
smiling on their special day. Its a day every girl dreams of and you wouldnt want even a single photograph of yours clicked in a
sad or bad mood. So dont forget to smile, even when a little tear escapes.

A Prayer
My Lord!
Bless us with a Child to call our own,
With laughter and smiles to fll our home.
A child to bond us together in case,
We drift apart in lifes race.
Give us a child to carry our name
To make us immortal in glory and fame.
Without a child we feel dismay .
No one to love ,to care ,or play.
We feel awkward , out of company with peers.
Devoid of joy, fun and cheers.
Give us a child to have the drive,
To live for some one , to plan, to strive.
Give us our child to make us complete
To learn to sacrifce with memories sweet.
It is a prayer humble and sincere
Give us a girl child to rear .
A daughter is concerned, a compassionate Savior,
She continues to bond with the parents for ever.
Bless us with a daughter to call our own,
With laughter and smiles to fll our home.
Farewell
My Queen of Heart!
I love you, always have.
Since our frst conclave,
Long ago
Memories still aglow .
For me you still mean
love- pure , nave and sheen
Romance, nostalgia, dreams and beauty
A bit of heart aches, sorrows and pity.
You also mean deep friendship, mirror image,
Laughter of my life and a confdante
and all above--
Promise of undying afection, care and love.
But now you are -
In a world far away and diferent from mine,
Separated by space ,circumstances and time,.
I am your past , A past that means-
Betrayals, mistakes and shattered dreams.
Look beyond me and you will see
A host of goodies in life to be.
If you want to make me happy,
Move on and Live life, my Savvy.
Foot prints
My lonely heart was always wet
Like a sandy soft sea shore,
Where many people I had met
Made their own foot prints score.
But by the waves of time, all these
Were washed away just one by one
Except a pair, marked of the crease
Which till date remains undone.
No tide of life could ever go near
Not even the mighty waves of time.
Tese are your footmarks, my dear
Tat once you made on heart of mine.
Henna Explained
By Nancy Murdoch
For thousands of years people from every culture in the world have been ornamenting themselves. Jewelry, body
paint, colorful costumes and elaborate hair styles were used as part of their religious festivities. Te art of transforming
ourselves with make-up and masks is an ancient tradition that dates back to the origins of human culture. Face
painting may, in fact, be the very frst art, predating cave paintings.
Painting is a combination of lines, forms, colors, textures and space. Face and body painting is more than just a
beautifying process. Its a sacred ritual that can be used to express and elicit emotions. Pictures, symbols and colors
came before the development of the written language. Images are rich in meaning and tell stories about the people,
culture and the historical time period.
In 7000 B.C. the people of Catal Huyuk used henna to decorate their hands. Tey believed it connected them
directly with their fertility goddess. Te Babylonians, Assyrians, Sumerians, Semites, Ugaritics and Canaanites are
some of the frst civilizations to have used henna to adorn a bride for her wedding. Payal Gupta has continued this
ancient Goddess tradition by developing an entire business based on accentuating the natural beauty of women for
all celebrations.
Brides By Payal opened in 2004 as a way for Payal to share her passion for art and fashion with women in the
Greater Toronto Area. Payal is a natural henna/Mehndi artist. She has been creating beautiful body art for her
family and friends in India since she was a young girl. After moving to Canada she trained professionally as a make-
up artist and hair designer. Today Payal skillfully marries her expertise in ancient henna tradition with the latest
trends in make-up and hair styles to bring the modern-day bride the best of both worlds.
Are you are planning a wedding, Diwali or other special occasion? Book an appointment with Payal for a free
consultation. While youre there get a sample of henna on your hands and test the great quality and craftsmanship.
Check out Payals portfolio and choose from the hundreds of original designs, or create something totally new for
your big day. She has party packages available, too! Contact Bride By Payal at bridesbypayal@gmail.com
