New Life

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4 NIV

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever." Isaiah 40:8 NIV The Encyclopedia Britannica Online defines the type of farming techniques used by most Papua New Guineans well. Slash-and-burn agriculture is when areas of the jungle are burned and cleared for planting; the ash provides some fertilization, and the plot is relatively free of weeds. After several years of farming however, fertility greatly declines and weeds increase again. The previous garden area that was left alone has by then reverted to jungle, and cultivation then shifts to a new plot. After about a decade the old garden site can be reused. Makes sense right? Stay with us for a minute here... We would like to make an analogy with Bible translation. After many years of language learning and preparation, the missionaries among the Moi of West Papua, Indonesia were finally able to begin their chronological teaching through the Scriptures. Just like the new life that springs from the ground after years of waiting to plant new crops, the missionaries were seeing the first new life salvation - spring from years of their work! Just as the jungle brush goes from complete death through being burned to new life, so were the Moi people transformed through the understanding of the Bible in their heart language! From death to new life in Jesus. The missionaries started with the creation story and were moving through the narratives to end up at the resurrection of Christ. People had come from all the surrounding villages of the Moi territory, some hiking five days to get there. The initial plan was to have teaching sessions five days a week. Soon after beginning, though, the Moi insisted that the storying be done six days a week ... and they refused to return to their villages to tend their gardens and get food. The people were literally going hungry so that they could hear the Good News! 80 Moi came to new faith in Jesus! Please watch the Moi testimonies online who committed their lives to Christ as a result of these teaching sessions ( http://vimeo.com/16220739). Celebrate with us how our role with you in supporting the work of Bible translation brings new life, eternal life, to those who are still waiting.

A Moi child smiles.

"so is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11 NIV Join our worship and work to glorify Him throughout the nations! Until all have heard,
