YMCA Sports Camp focuses on improving sport skills through teamwork and friendly competition. There will be a variety of sports to choose from with each session lasting one week. Sports Camp is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sports campers will be given the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, play games, and take field trips related to the weekly sport. Activities take place at the Geauga YMCA located at 12460 Bass Lake Road. Who is Sports Camp for? Youth ages 6-12 who have interest in developing sport-specific skills, making friends and, most importantly, having fun. What is done in each camp? Each camp will have the following: skills sessions, scrimmages - games, free time, pool time, lunch, occasional movies, and miscellaneous games/activities.

The West Geauga Recreation Council will again host the traditional West G Day Camp for children in grades K-5 and a Middle School Camp for kids in grades 6-8. Check out all the creative outlets for kids, ages 4-16, starting June 17 through Aug. 4. New this year and due to the generous donation of a Master Etch Printing Press, Printmaking campers will experience printmaking first-hand from design to the actual printing. Also new this year, Drawing & Painting will be teaching the basics in both abstract and traditional subject matter. Back by popular demand, Photography Camp will teach the ins and outs of cameras and give some creative projects to help students think outside of the box. Taught by Tessa Dicker, the camp is for ages 10 and up. Taught by Kathy Vencl and Emily English, All Around Art Camp is an alltime favorite camp for those who want to explore the many mediums of art. Younger campers focus on a variety of fundamental art experiences while our older campers work on fine-tuning many art mediums. Cartooning Camp, taught by local caricature artist, Ron Hill, is only offered a couple of weeks during the summer so dont be closed out of this VAC favorite. For ages 10 and up, students will learn how to draw cartoons starting with expressions, action, and character. If your kids are between the ages of 48, they can join Mrs. Mudd, for Prewumps and Mudwumps Pottery Camps. Prewumps will introduce students to the medium of clay and Mudwumps campers will work with the methods of coil and slab construction. In Youth & Teen Pottery Camp, Joan Rusek will teach campers, ages 9 and up, how to hand-build with clay and some cool glazing techniques. Finally, Kim Mettee, a local favorite jeweler, invites beginner and experienced students ages 8 and up to her Beading Cam. With an eclectic array of raw materials, students are encouraged to experiment and create unique pieces of artful jewelry. VAC also offers select classes and workshops for adults during the summer. In fact, the studio considers ballet the foundation for all other dance forms. The Beachwood based studio has been in business for 10 years and teaches classical ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and contemporary for students ages 3 through adult. Studio J also offers creative dance classes to kids ages 18months-2 1/2 years old. These students learn locomotion and coordination skills that help them develop their motor skills for future activities. Its early childhood program gives young dancers ages 3-9, the understanding of proper technique and an appreciation for the art of dance in an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere. Beginning at age 9, however, students can be recommended into the studios pre-professional program, in which dancers are encouraged to develop their imagination, minds and bodies. The Baseball Camps will be held in Twinsburg at the Liberty Park baseball fields. If there is inclement weather camp will be held at the Strike Force Baseball Academy indoor training facility in Solon. The indoor training facility has four automated batting cages for baseball and fast pitch softball and seven training tunnels. The comprehensive camp program will be conducted by the Strike Force Baseball Academy team of professional instructors as well as local high school and collegiate players. The Strike Force staff has many years of experience training and coaching all age and skill levels. A typical camp day will include proper baseball sport-specific warm up techniques, group skill training, individual skill training, and game play. Campers will be grouped according to age and skill level to maximize player development for all participants. Each day players will go through a series of stations that will focus on hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, pitching, base running, and, performance training. Players will leave camp each day with drills that they can do at home to help them reach their maximum potential. Each weeks camp session is different and is created to cover basic skills and techniques, while encouraging creativity and further developing each students talents and abilities. For the tiniest talents, SCA offers Lil Music, Lil Art and Lil Theater Camps for pre-school students (ages 3 to 5). New this summer is the Lil Combo Camp combining music, art and movement. To explore just dance, try Kinderdance (ages 3 to 6). Students grades 1 through 7 can participate in Theater, Art and Beginner Dance Camps. Each session is one week long. Back by demand is our Musical Theatre Camp. This two-week camp is an exciting place for children to imagine, create and explore the facets of putting together a musical. Inclusion and self-contained tracks provide arts experiences for children with special needs. Piano Camp is designed to give children ages 9 to 16, with two years of playing experience, the opportunity for study in an intensive two-week session. CHAGRIN VALLEY RECREATION CENTER CAMPS Chagrin Falls 7-12 School Campus The Chagrin Valley Recreation Center has planned several exciting camps for Summer 2011. Sports-based clinics include cheerleading, basketball skills and Kuk Sol Du, along with jewelry making and Design It! camps. The popular Gurney Day Camp for preschoolers, held at Gurney Elementary School, the Eddie Jones Softball League, Masters Swim Program and weekly water aerobics for adults will be back as well. There will be a return of the oldfashioned summer day camp for 6- to 12-year-olds held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekly, with extended camper hours available. Participants will learn age-old camp songs and games with the flare of today and observe nature by hiking, climbing over rocks, and searching for birds nests. Swimming, fun activities and snacks will round out the day. CVRC camps are taught by experienced coaches, college students and teachers, and the camps emphasize skill building in a fun environment. Most camps are offered for one to three hours a day for one week during June and July. Camps are held at the Rec Center building on the Chagrin Falls 7-12 school campus or at the school and are open to members and non-members. Families on a limited income can request special payment plans or make special arrangements. The campers from Excel & Explore visit many other surrounding camps, parks and recreation centers. The camp has visited the Geauga YMCA, Lake Farm Parks, and Lake in the Woods Horseback riding camp. It serves the unique needs of children with learning differences. The purpose of the camp is learning and building self-confidence while having fun and socializing. Campers ages 6 to 18 participate in the many camp activities. The Teen Leader group includes campers ages 14 to 18 that are ready for more responsibility. Academic Fun & Fitness Camp campers learn systematic reading and math. Afternoons include theater arts, science, poetry, sports and social activities. The specially-trained and experienced counselors understand the needs of children with learning differences. Lunch and before-and-after camp care included for full day campers. Teen Leadership campers are provided with academics at their skill levels in addition to leadership, life, and social skills programming. Trained counselors work with the teens to develop the leadership skills to work together as a group and as individual leaders. Teen Leaders lead young campers by planning and leading weekly recreation and other activities. Camp provides teens with a fun, stimulating, and safe environment to expand minds, physical ability, creativity, independence, selfconfidence and social skills. Camp is held from June 11 to July 20.
