The pioneers of the teaching of science imagined that its introduction into education would remove the conventionality, artificiality, and backward-lookingness which were characteristic;of classical studies, but they were gravely disappointed. So, too, in their time had the humanists thought that the study of the classical authors in the original would banish at once the dull pedantry and superstition of mediaeval scholasticism. The professional schoolmaster was a match for both of them, and has almost managed to make the understanding of chemical reactions as dull and as dogmatic an affair as the reading of Virgil's Aeneid. The chief claim for the use of science in education is that it teaches a child something about the actual universe in which he is living, in making him acquainted with the results of scientific discovery, and at the same time teaches him how to think logically and inductively by studying scientific method. A certain limited success has been reached in the first of these aims, but practically none at all in the second. Those privileged members of the community who have been through a secondary or public school education may be expected to know something about the elementary physics and chemistry of a hundred years ago, but they probably know hardly more than any bright boy can pick up from an interest in wireless or scientific hobbies out of school hours. As to the learning of scientific method, the whole thing is palpably a farce. Actually, for the convenience of teachers and the requirements of the examination system, it is necessary that the pupils not only do not learn scientific method but learn precisely the reverse, that is, to believe exactly what they are told and to reproduce it when asked, whether it seems nonsense to them or not. The way in which educated people respond to such quackeries as spiritualism or astrology, not to say more dangerous ones such as racial theories or currency myths, shows that fifty years of education in the method of science in Britain or Germany has produced no visible effect whatever. The only way of learning the method of science is the long and bitter way of personal experience, and, until the educational or social systems are altered to make this possible, the best we can expect is the production of a minority of people who are able to acquire some of the techniques of science and a still smaller minority who are able to use and develop them. 11. The author implies that the 'professional schoolmaster' has a) No interest in teaching science b) Thwarted attempts to enliven education c) Aided true learning d) Supported the humanists e) Been a pioneer in both science and humanities. Ans: B 12. The authors attitude to secondary and public school education in the sciences is a) Ambivalent b) Neutra c) Supportive d) Satirical e) Contemptuous Ans: e

13. The word palpably most nearly means a) Empirically b) Obviously c) Tentatively d) Markedly e) Ridiculously Ans: b 14. If the author were to study current education in science to see how things have changed since he wrote the piece, he would probably be most interested in the answer to which of the following questions? a) Do students know more about the world about them? b) Do students spend more time in laboratories? c) Can students apply their knowledge logically? d) Have textbooks improved? e) Do they respect their teachers Ans: c 16. Astrology (line 31) is mentioned as an example of a) A science that needs to be better understood b) A belief which no educated people hold c) Something unsupportable to those who have absorbed the methods of science d) The gravest danger to society e) An acknowledged failure of science Ans: c Directions for Questions 17-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage. Furthermore, insofar as any conclusion about its author can be drawn from five or six plays attributed to him, the Wakefield Master is without exception considered to be a man of sharp contemporary observation. He was, probably clerically educated, as indicated by his Latin and music, his Biblical and patristic lore. Even today he is remembered for his his quick sympathy for the oppressed and forgotten man, his sharp eye for character, a ready ear for colloquial, vernacular turns of speech and a humor alternately rude and boisterous, coarse and happy. Therefore in spite of his conscious artistry as can be seen in his feeling for intricate metrical and stanza forms, he is regarded as a kind of medieval Steinbeck, indignantly angry at, uncompromisingly and even brutally realistic in presenting the plight of the agricultural poor. It is now fairly accepted to regard the play as a kind of ultimate point in the secularization of the medieval drama. Therefore more stress has been laid on it as depicting realistically humble manners and pastoral life in the bleak of the west riding of Yorkshire on a typically

cold night of December 24th. After what are often regarded as almost ''documentaries'' given in the three successive monologues of the three shepherds, critics go on to affirm that the realism is then intensified into a burlesque mock-treatment of the Nativity. Finally as a sort of epilogue or after-thought in deference to the Biblical origins of the materials, the play slides back into an atavistic mood of early innocent reverence. In actuality, the final scene is the culminating scene and also the raison detre of the introductory ''realism.'' Superficially the present play supports the conventional view of its mood of secular realism. At the same time, the ''realism'' of the Wakefield Master is of a paradoxical turn. His wide knowledge of people, as well as books indicates no cloistered contemplative but one in close relation to his times. Still, that life was after all a predominantly religious one, a time which never neglected the belief that man was a rebellious and sinful creature in need of redemption . So deeply (one can hardly say ''naively'' of so sophisticated a writer) and implicitly religious is the Master that he is less able (or less willing) to present actual history realistically than is the author of the Brome Abraham and Isaac. His historical sense is even less realistic than that of Chaucer who just a few years before had done for his own time ''costume romances,'' such as The Knight's Tele, Troilus and Cressida, etc. Furthermore, used highly romantic materials, which could excuse his taking liberties with history. 17. Of the following statements, which is not true of Wakefield Master? a) He and Chaucer were contemporaries. b) Wakefield Master is remembered as having written five or six realistic plays. c) His plays realistically portray the plight of the country folk of his day d) His writing was similar to that of John Steinbeck. e) He was an accomplished artist. From the following what would the writer be expected to do in the subsequent paragraphs.

Do the following chapters thoroughly: * Blood Relations

* Puzzle test * Direction Sense test * Logic- for syllogisms. Learn the 9 rules ,that will be more than sufficient, and do all the 3 exercises. * Visual Reasoning (find the odd figure out, middle figure) * Cubes and dices (one side is 3 ,then other is what?) * Data Interpretation (Do from R.S Aggawal Quantative) Last chapters of the book. Learn only the formulae and just take an overview of how the problem is approached * Data Sufficiency * Inference from passages (From Quantative, you can do Time and work, time and distance, Ratio and proportion, Ages, Profit and loss. Although the paper is verbal, but sometimes these topics come.) For English section, Do from R.S Aggarwal General English. (Do unit 3,4 complete from this book) * Error Spotting (Do all the exercises) * Sentence completion(Do all the exercises) * Fillers(Do all the exercises) * Comprehension (1 short and 1 long) (Do some of the exercises so that you can get a hold over comprehension) Do the comprehension passages at last bcoz they are quite long. First they gave us verbal paper which we had to solve 30 questions in 40 minutes. * 5 questions on visual reasoning (odd figure out)-these questions were damn easy, no need to practice * 5 questions on small puzzle involving arithmetic - aarti, banti, chetan and dolly (not Dolly Bindra) are 4 people, Aarti and banti have money equal to chetan and dolly. Aarti has 5 morethe banti. Chetan has half of what dolly have. Total money is 100. Who has the highest money? Who has the least money? Etc. * 5 questions on data sufficiency * 5 questions on Data interpretation Manufacturer had defective items in a box and cost curves with probability of defective items were given. Logic behind was that "The best alternative was having least cost and maximum defectives inspection", and the answer was alt2.

* 5 questions on Puzzle-5 persons, their profession, children, fridges were given. * 5 questions on Syllogisms-No house is a pole, all boys are tall, sohan is a boy, all wheels are racks. (Syllogisms were from R.S Aggarwal, do all the three exercises) Then we were given the English Paper in which we had to solve 40 questions in 30 minutes. * 20 questions on error spotting. (Do from RS aggarwal General English and read Wren and Martin too) * 10 question on deriving inferences from passages (Do from R.S Aggarwal General English) * 5 questions on comprehension 1(Easy) * 5 questions on comprehension 2(Easy) Around 5.30 pm our HR interview started. Hi Friends, This is Ramya frm Vel HighTech, Chennai. I attended Infosys interview on November 28th, 2010 at Anand Institute, Chennai. It was an off-campus. Nearly 3000 attended written test. Luckily i got selected in it. Written test: Written test had two sections wit 70 questions and duration was 75 mins. Analytical & Logical reasoning: (30 questions, 40 minutes) English section: (40 questions, 35 minutes). It was bit easy. I think it had sectional cut off. So please do attend all sections equally. Just go through the previous papers in Freshersworld.com, it would be very helpful. English section had one big paragraph with 5 questions. Please don waste time in that, attend it at last. Then it had a paragragh & some questions like what you infer from the above para, fiil the blanks wit correct tense, replace the underlined phrase with appropriate one & among four option which sentence is correct. No synonyms, antonyms. In first section it had syllogism, non verbal reasonin like some diagrams will be given & will ask the next one, one para will be given with some clues & 5 questions will be given. Out of 3000, 337 got selected for next round. HR interview: The very next day i had my HR at Infosys, Chennai. It was very very easy. They'll check only your communication & confidence. So don worry if you'll clear aps then surely you'll get placed in Infosys. They just asked me about my hobbies, family, college, extra curricular activities. Then they informed us tat they'll mail our results after 3 weeks. Finally i got mail on December 17th, 2010. Fortunately i got selected. So friends just concentrate on aps & do well. All the best! See you in Infosys!

Hai Friends, This is Naren, I have attended Infosys in the Month Of November 2010. Infosys conducted just two rounds 1) Written Test

It composed of two sections, a) First section is very easy and it consists of Logical deduction, Data interpretation from R.S Aggarwal seating arrangement. b) Second section consists of complete verbal, the contents are 2 paragraphs from R.S Aggarwal correction of sentences (Prepare tenses once) 2 more parts are there in this section these also from R.S Aggarwal 2) HR Interview Just HR asked. About Projects? Whats your role in your project? Then HR asked about some personal things and How do you spend your free time.

attended infosys recuritment drive (through jkc) on 24th March, 2011. So the pattern of Infosys which mentioned in previous papers as same. First of all before starting written exam we have pre-presentation activity that may takes nearly one hour(explained company details by HR). After that written exam wouid be started. Patteren like this 1: logicol reasoing(30ques-40min) 2: verbal ability(40ques-35min) First of all reasoing paper given that consists structure like this 1-5 (three figures given those are some arrangements and fourth given as questoin mark and Select a suitable figure from the Answer Figures that would replace the question mark (?).this type of questions are in indiabix the exact part is non-verbal reasoing analogy part) 6-10(simple puzzle) 11-15(data interpertation more calculations require) 16-20(data suffiency )

21-25(did not say complex but some wat tough puzzle) 26-30(syllogims) so after 5min gap verbal paper was given that consists like this 1-8(spotting errors) 9-16(choosing apprapriate sentence from the given options) 17-23(sentence filler ,sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms e.t.c will be given) 24-30(about theme detection) 31-35(small passage) 35-40(lenghthy and tough so u go question to answer) totaly after 75mins answer sheet collected and result announced afetr three hrs sectional cuttoff may be reasoing 60% and verbal 50% based on requirement of those. one thing would remind that if u need compulsary placement in infosys u can do the written paper espacially verbal its look like simple and also answers are nearly same but picking of best one is main thing so do those with another people or with team. All the best guys!

Hello Friends. I am Vipin Kumar from MMEC Mullana. I am sharing my experience with you about the joint campus placement drive by Infosys. It was held in Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana. Four colleges were there: MMEC, Rayat, BabaBanda Bahadur and One More. In all about 1500 students appeared and nearly 300 students were selected. and 156 was from Our College. The procedure was simple. Only aptitude and HR. Aptitude The aptitude test started at 11:30 am. At first, reasoning question paper was given. it had 30 questions to be done in 40 minutes. It was all reasoning. Just 1 or 2 questions of quants were there.

First five questions were on Odd Figure Selection. they were very easy(practice them from R.S Aggarwall). Next it was a Quesion regarding n/w of nodes and there were some question regarding finding of shortest path b/w different nodes Next there were 5 questions on data sufficiency. they were also easy. Again it was a puzzle. It was very -very easy. Next again there were six questions of syllogism. four were very easy two are average bcoz they contain negative statement. Reasoning is very -very easy . Just practice from R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning. You need not to practice Quant for Infosys Paper. just Practice From R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning. English After reasoning english paper was given. it had 40 questions to be done in 35 minutes. It was little bit tough. It had questions based on finding errors (very easy Refer Hari Mohan Prashad for 90 rules to find error and its enough) sentence completion ( very easy Refer Hari Mohan Prashad) . Two unseen passages (Difficult. My Suggestion to u is to read english newspaper daily then u will be able to conclude passages) Inference Question(Difficult. Again my suggestion to u is to read english newspaper daily then u will be able to conclude such questions)

The english paper was balanced one. Not so tough not even easy. The aptitude test was over at 12:45 pm. Then the results for our college were declared at 5:30 pm. And I was one among those who cleared aptitude test. HR Interview The interviews started at 11:30 pm in the Night. I wait for 10 hour nearly and my interview strated at 11 pm. At my turn, I went inside the room. Interviewer was a Old man. he asked me to sit down. I thanked him. Then he asked for resume. I gave him. then looking my percentage he said" How u manage such high percentage" To which I replied. Then he asked about the my schooling, city. He asked how u manage ur time. why inf should select u. Then he said "interview is over. u want to ask any question." interview lasted for only 5-6 minutes.

It was 2:00 AM in the night and we all were desperately waiting for the results in seminar hall and Result was announced and i was one of them. 156 students were selected from our college. So guys I hope this will help you a lot. One thing i want to tell u again Prepare only from R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning and Hari Mohan Prashad. (its enough) CAT material is more than enough. Students having good communication skills have advantage. The criterion was 65% in btech and 60 % in X and XII. Good %age is important for infosys. So Guys going Mysore. See you there. All the best and believe in God.
