This course is about the analysis oflinear-elastic sffuctures, subjected to different static action types, applied loads, support settlements and temperature changes, using the classical formulation of Displacement Method (the Stiffness Matrix Method). The analysis tools for hand computation are developed and additionally, the basics of computational structural analysis tool are presented in order to get'familiar with matrix analysis of structures and use of typical software. The lectures will introduce also fundamentals of nonlinear behavior of structures and of stability analysis.

(2 hours/week)

The structural analysis using the classical formulation of Displacement Method.

The one-bay beam: stiffness, end-moments. Fundamentals, the kinematic degree of indeterminacy, structures with and structures without sidesway. Examples. The Displacement Method: primary system, the condition equations, displacement solution and internal forces diagrams. Structures without sidesway subiected to applied loads. Structures w th sidesway subiected to applied loads. Structures with sidesway subjected to temperature changes and support

Lectures and classes: The lectures and classes are developed over 2 and 3 hours/week, respectively.

Homeworks: You must submit 5 individual homeworks in order to attend the final examination. maximum grade, the homeworks will be presented at the specified deadlines. ! Late homeworks will be not considered on the final grading.

Similar applications will be solved during classes. You are requested to bring the pocket calculator for hand calculation, during lectwes and classes. You will be also assisted to build simple analysis algorithms and run structural analyses by typical freewares (e.g. FTOOL, available for download at https://web.tecgraf.puc-rio.brlftooVftooleng.html).

Evaluation: The evaluation process consists of (1) submitting the individual homeworks by due date and (2) by final
examination. Homework's availability: one academic year, including the current session and the re-examination session.
The students who did not passed the past examinations must actively participate to lectures and classes, and to solve the current homeworks.
