Same Sex Marriage

I. INTRODUCTION A. Overview: The proposed legalization of same-sex marriage is one of the most significant issues in contemporary Philippine family law. Presently, it is one of the most explosive political questions facing lawmakers, and one of the most provocative issues looming before other countries courts. If same-sex marriage is legalized, it could be one of the most revolutionary policy decisions in the history of Philippine family law and one of the most controversial legal and moral issue. The potential consequences, positive or negative, for children, parents, same-sex couples, families, social structure, social mores, public health, and the status of women are enormous. B. What is Same sex marriage Same sex marriage is a union between persons with the same gender or the LBGT known as the Lesbians, Bi-Sexual, Gay, Transgendered. C. Same sex marriage in other countries Same-sex marriage supporters react in Spain's parliament after a vote to legalize same-sex marriage. The measure, passed by a vote of 187 to 147, establishes that couples will have the same rights, including the freedom to marry and to adopt children, regardless of gender. "Today, Spanish society is responding to a group of people who have been humiliated, whose rights have been ignored, their dignity offended, their identity denied and their freedom restricted," Prime Minister Jos Luis Rodguez Zapatero told Parliament. Spain is the fourth country to legalize gay marriage, after Canada, Holland and Belgium. The Spanish measure simply adds one sentence to existing law: "Marriage will have the same requirements and results when the two people entering into the contract are of the same sex or of different sexes."

Humiliation will be erased in the society

Those LBGT who are living together without marriage are humiliated by people in their community, if this act will be approved, Humiliation in their part will be erased.

Identity will not be denied and freedom will not be restricted

Those LBGT who adopts a child, the Identity of the child and his/her parent will not be denied by law because of gender. Freedom to act shall be served to all. Act as a family, as a part of the community and part of society of the Philippines.

D. CONCLUSION We are living in a strong catholic country, were we base our morality and principles through our religious beliefs. If this act will push through it could be a major change in our society and basis for church and government arguments. 1.
