Very common British thread. The female could also have a 60 degree convex seat instead of globeseal.

NPT or NPTF is a popular American thread type often referred to as "pipe thread". NPT fittings are designed to seal with some thread deformation and use of teflon liquid or tape.

SAE 37 degree flair, aka -AN (Air Force/Navy) or JIC, is considered universal for aftermarket automotive plumbing. ORB version is similar thread but seals with o-ring rather than flair. SAE 45 seals on 45 degree flair and is similar in thread to SAE 37 (except -12 which is 14tpi). SAE45 is commonly used in automotive a/c plumbing.

Used throughout European car fluid systems. Radius "Globeseal" on female adapts to a variety of sealing flair angles. Some male ends have convex flair, but concave is more common.
Step 1 Wrap hose tightly with tape at cutting point. Cut hose squarely to length using a fine tooth hacksaw, cable shears, or cut-off wheel. Remove tape being careful not to fray braid. Insert hose into socket with a twisting, pushing motion until the hose is positioned just short of where socket thread begins. It will be helpful to hold socket in a vice while inserting hose. It is important to mark hose at rear of socket with a marker or tape. This mark will later indicate if hose has "pushed out" during assembly.
Step 5
Step 4 Lubricate inside of hose and nipple thread liberally with S.A.E. 30 oil or specific hose assembly lube. Carefully insert nipple into socket end with a turning motion to engage threads while holding hose with other hand. Make sure hose does not push out of socket end (observe mark make in step 3). Continue threading by hand as far as possible making sure threads are properly mated.
Step 6 Complete assembly using a wrench while holding the hose in position. When assembled a small gap of .030" or less should exist between socket and nipple shoulder. It is an option to hold the nipple in the vise turning the socket and hose portion on with a wrench.
Step 7
Other Information: Most manufacturers -AN type hose ends and braided hose conform to an industry standard and are generally interchange. Be careful not to confuse types of braided hose. Hose with Teflon interior can only be used with TFE type hose fittings - not the usual red/blue aluminum variety detailed here. The TFE hose/fitting system is common in smaller i.d. -3AN and -4AN sizes used in high pressure applications; -6 and 8 sizes exist, but are less common. Depending on brand, the nipple portion of hose end will commonly be either "taper" or "cutter" design - assembly is similar.
Check assembled fitting; observe mark made in step 3 for evidence of push out. If available, proof test assembly to twice operating pressure. Always check assembly for leakage under normal operating conditions.
Socketless type hose has no exterior or interior metal braid and cuts easily. Cut hose squarely to length using a fine tooth hacksaw, cable shears, pvc cutter, box knife, or cutoff wheel.
Allowing hose to warm-up will aid assembly; leave in sunlight for a time, or warm some water in the microwave and place the end of hose in to soften.
Secure a union in a bench vise and attatch hose end securely. How union is mounted in vise will vary depending on hose angle being fitted.
Lubricate both the fitting tail and hose interior where they will come together. Motor oil or liquid soap works well.
Push and twist the hose over fitting tail until it is tight behind the hose finisher. It helps to do this in one continious motion.
Finished end should resemble this. Hoses with angles at each end can be "clocked" prior to installation. Grip hose and fitting firmly, rotate to proper direction. Hose assembly should be checked for leakage under normal opperation conditions.
