Vitamin C - If you are a victim to pneumonia then you should increase your vitamin C intakes.

One-Three grams of vitamin C will be enough for your body. Otherwise also you should take foods containing high amounts of vitamins C, such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, red peppers, sweet potatoes, and all citrus fruits. This will help you prevent pneumonia from occurring.

Zinc - Zinc is also very good for pneumonia. A daily intake of at least 15 milligrams of zinc is necessary, otherwise people develop deficiencies. Zinc rich foods are meats, poultry, eggs, dairy products, and oysters.

Favor foot motion - You should take a brisk walk daily for at least half an hour a day. I will take no guarantee that this will cure pneumonia, but daily walks may help you recover from pneumonia a bit fast.

Other Physical Activities - If you like activities such as cycling or swimming, then you must go for as any daily or regular exercise will keep your immune system strong. Doctors also recommend trying other different workouts like yoga. All this will help you recover from pneumonia slight fast.

Tulsi Oil - Pure tulsi oil is very good for curing pneumonia, which you will get from any good ayurvedic medicine shop. Now apply small amount of this oil on the chest of affected person.

Juice of Tulsi Leaves and Grains of Black Pepper - Take about 5-6 tulsi leaves and extract its juice. Now mix this juice with a few grind grains of black pepper at every six hours interval. This will help you cure pneumonia fast.

If the above two treatments are combined and used on a person, then it could work wonders. It will produce enough heat in the body to make the person sweat. With this sweat all the effect of cold inside the body shall vanish and the patient will be cured within days.

Carp (fish) Plaster - This is good for pneumonia as it reduces high fever, which develops in case of pneumonia. Take a live carp (fish) and mash it properly. Now mix in it small amount of whole-wheat flour. Now take this mixture and spread it onto a oiled paper and apply to the chest. When treating pneumonia, you can also drink 1 or 2 teaspoons of carp blood, only in the case when the carp has just been killed.

You should be taking the readings of body temperature every half hour, and should immediately remove the carp plaster as soon as the body temp. comes to normal.

Fenugreek - Fenugreek is also a good curative for pneumonia. It works the most in the initial stages of pneumonia. A tea made from fenugreek seeds will help the suffering person to produce sweat, which would help him to lower down his fever. The person can take up to four cups of the tea daily (not more than that). And this quantity can be gradually reduced as the condition starts improving. During this treatment, you must be taking no other food, as fasting and fenugreek will allow the body to correct these respiratory problems in just a few days, otherwise it would take time.

Raw fruit and vegetable juices diet - In the beginning 5-10 days of the infection the person should be kept on a diet containing only raw juices. He should take a glass of fruit or vegetable juice diluted with warm water, every two or three hours. After a diet of raw juices, when the fever descends, for at least 34 days the patient should be kept on an exclusive fresh fruit diet, taking three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits.

1. Diet and Nutrition

o

1 Remove excessive amounts of animal protein from your diet. During a bout with pneumonia, it is important to get as much protein from vegetable sources as possible. Excessive amounts of animal protein can be hard on your digestive system, especially if you are sick. When you are ill, it is important to keep yourself regular and allow whole foods to work quickly so your body can absorb their nutrients and fight the infection. A healthy amount of protein can be found in vegetables such as beets, artichokes, spinach, cauliflower, peas, eggplant and potatoes.

2 Mince 4 to 6 garlic gloves and 1/2 onion. Add 8 to 10 oz. of water and 2 tsp. of honey. Blend well and drink 30 minutes before you eat your first meal. This mixture will help open your bronchial passages so you can stay comfortable

during the day. Drink this mixture throughout the day if you feel unusually congested.
o

3 Drink a 12 to 14 oz. glass of cranberry/apple juice with breakfast. This will add antioxidants to your system. Do not eat any solid foods for breakfast, except for a small bowl of yogurt or kefir.

4 Drink a potassium broth with lunch. Making a potassium broth is simple. It can be done by juicing 2 large carrots, 2 stalks of celery, 4 cloves of garlic, 2 radishes and a few pinches of parsley. If you don't have a juicer, drink 10 to 12 oz. of lowsodium vegetable juice. V-8 Juice is among the top brands. It is important to get as much potassium as possible during a bout with pneumonia. Potassium helps repair damaged tissue in the lungs. Do not drink a potassium broth if you have heart disease; potassium helps to regulate your heart function and too much can be dangerous. Consult your health care provider before drinking a potassium broth.

5 Drink a 12-ounce glass of carrot juice with dinner. Add 1 tbsp. of cayenne pepper. Carrot juice will help heal the lungs, and add antioxidants to your damaged tissue. Carrot juice, aside from being a wonderful source of vitamin A, is also rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and vitamin B complex. Cayenne will increase the effectiveness of the carrot juice. It also helps in repairing tissues in the lungs.

6 Drink 1 or 2 cups of olive leaf extract tea before bed. Olive leaf extract acts as a natural antibiotic and will help your body fight your infection by attacking the pneumonia, while keeping the rest of your immune system healthy. Olive leaf extract is sold in tea form at health food stores. It is also available in capsules, powder and as a liquid elixir, if you wish to take it in a form other than tea.

2. Body Care
o

1 Relax in an oxygen bath at least once a day. An oxygen bath consists of adding 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of sea salt and 1/2 cup of baking soda to a hot bath. Sit for at least 15 to 30 minutes. An oxygen bath will help you breathe while it oxidizes the toxins and mucous built up in your lungs so they can be released through your pores, nose and urine.

2 Apply a mustard plaster to your chest twice a week. A mustard plaster is made by mixing 2 tbsp. of mustard powder, 2 eggs, 6 tbsp. of wheat flower and a cup of water into paste. Apply liberally to your chest and let it sit for 20 minutes, or until you skin flushes to a light pink color. This mixture will held bring the toxins in your lungs to the surface so they can escape through your pores. Do not use the mustard plaster if you have any allegies to mustard, egg or wheat.

3 Sit in a hot sauna or steam bath for 20 minutes at least once a week. If a sauna or steam room is not available, simply add 10 to 20 drops of eucalyptus oil to a hot bath. Breathe in the steam slowly and allow the oils to open your pores so toxins may be release through your skin.

4 Perform a nasal/mucous treatment at least once a day or as needed: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 5 to 10 drops of eucalyptus oil. Place a bath towel over your head and breath in the steam from the water. Do this until the water is room temperature or the steam subsides.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES Pneumonia is rarely a problem in individuals with healthy immune systems - in these cases, the bodys normal defence mechanisms can either shrug it off or weaken its impact. So healthy eating - perhaps boosted by multivitamin/ mineral supplements - should help to keep pneumonia at bay. There are three specific micronutrients that are especially effective for preventing pneumonia: * Zinc is known to be associated with weakened immune function and, thus, vulnerability to serious infectious disease. Many studies have shown that, in developing countries, giving children 20-30 mg/day of zinc will almost halve pneumonia rates (J Pediatr, 1999; 135: 689-97). However, even in the developed world, children are often zinc-deficient. Agriculture practices, and food refining and processing have all conspired to reduce the average zinc intake in developed countries to about a third below the recommended daily minimum (J Orthomolec Med, 1995; 10: 149-64). In cases of pneumonia, zinc appears to work by reducing lung inflammation and obstruction to the airways (Lancet, 2004; 363: 1683-8). Signs of zinc deficiency include poor wound-healing, hair loss, skin rashes, night-blindness, and impaired taste and smell.

* Vitamin C is another powerful antipneumonia weapon. A major review of over 60 separate studies by Professor Harri Hemila, of the University of Helsinki, concluded that there is a substantial and consistent benefit from vitamin C. Intakes of more than 1 g/day (which is around 20 times the recommended daily allowance) have been proved to cut pneumonia rates almost in half, especially among the elderly - even in serious cases requiring hospitalisation (Int J Tuberc Lung Dis, 1999; 3: 756-61). * Vitamin A is recommended as it appears to be a potent infection fighter in cases of lung disease, although a vast majority of clinical trials suggest that it doesnt seem to work against pneumonia per se (Acta Paediatr, 2004; 93: 1437-42). Nevertheless, high doses of vitamin A have proven to be invaluable in measles, helping to prevent complications of the disease, one of which is pneumonia (Cochrane Database Syst Rev, 2002; 1: CD001479). PNEUMONIA TREATMENTS Blood and swab lab tests are used to determine the causal organism, as this will affect the type of treatment. Pneumonia due to bacteria is generally treated with antibiotics, the type depending on the organism causing the infection. However, bacterial resistance is a growing problem, making the use of these drugs futile for many infectious diseases, including pneumonia. If the infection is severe, and especially in very young and old people, hospitalisation with antibiotics and fluids given intravenously, and extra oxygen via a mask, may be required. Fungal pneumonias are treated with specific antifungal drugs, but nothing is given for viral pneumonias - the immune system is left to get on with the job. Alternatively, try: * Pleurisy root was used by Native American tribes as a herbal remedy for many infections of the lung; indeed, this plant was an official medicine in the US Pharmacopoeia until 1905. However, there is no evidence from clinical studies to support its use. * Traditional Chinese Medicine has been shown to be very effective in childhood pneumonia. In a study involving more than 50 children, 80 per cent of them were completely cured by a combined treatment of acupuncture and herbs such as xie bai san and banxia houpo tang (J Tradit Chin Med, 1998; 18: 174-7). * Hydrogen peroxide is an unusual treatment that appears to have been last used about 90 years ago. It involves injecting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into the patients veins. In 1919, an epidemic of viral pneumonia had broken out among British troops stationed in India, resulting in four out of five men dying of the disease. Nothing seemed to work so, in desperation, the doctors tried H2O2. In their very first patient, within six hours of the injection his fever was reduced, delirium vanished (prior to treatment the patient had to be tied to his bed due to delirium) and he was sitting up in bed and asking for food, the doctors report read. Over the following ten days, his temperature fell to normal and complete recovery resulted after a period of three weeks. This prompted the doctors to select 25 terminal cases for H2O2 treatment, which saved the lives of over half of them. The doctors concluded that the therapy worked by rendering circulating toxins inert by oxidation (Lancet, 1920; i: 432-3).

However, although the British army doctors found hydrogen-peroxide therapy to be a totally safe, the current medical opinion has generally turned hostile to H2O2 treatment, which is now being offered as an alternative treatment for cancer. * Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens) is an antimicrobial that can help control infections such as pneumonia. * Bromelain orally reduced the volume and pus-like quality of the sputum in 124 patients in hospital because of various lung diseases, including pneumonia (J Clin Invest, 1985; 75: 456-61). * Classical herbal preparations such as Berberis vulgaris (barberry root bark), B. aquifolium (Oregon grape root) and Hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal) all contain berberine, a potent bacterial infection fighter (Ann Trop Med Parasitol, 1991; 85: 417-25). * Manuka honey has a broad antibacterial action. * A good-quality Lactobacillus probiotic preparation has been shown to prevent respiratory infections in children (BMJ, 2001; 322: 1318-9, 1327-9).
