.New Palenl.s A method for inhibiting the precipitation oi ~ scale, such as an iron silicate scale, from a hot aqueous brine solution, such as a geothermal brine, during production and handling of thc brine wherein there is injected into the brine :~ brine-soluble acid in an amount sufficicnt t,, lower the pH of the brine from t. 1 to {k3 pH units.

through reinjection, The permanent cemented-in production casing in the well is protected against the corrosive effects of the hot production brine by means of a removable production liner that is generally coextensive with the casing. Said mixing zone is provided in the lower portion of the liner, and the liner establishes an annulus between it and the casing through which said nongeothermal water flows downwardly to the mixing zone so as to exclude the production brine from contact with the casing.

4498543 M E T H O D FOR PLACING A LINER IN A P R E S S U R I Z E D WELL

David S Pye, Donald L Ash, Robert W Rardin assigned to Union Oil Company of California A method for placing a perforated liner in a well penetrating a reservoir containing a high pressure fluid, for example, a geothermal fluid. The holes in one or more sections of a preperforated liner are temporarily closed by inserting therein hollow plugs having an open flange end at the outer surface of the liner and a closed end projecting into the bore of the liner. The lower end of a first section of liner is also closed as with a solid plug. The liner, made up of one or more of the above-described sections which have been joined together, is run into the well through a pressure sealing device at the wellhead, such as a stripper rubber or rotating head. When the liner has been properly positioned in the well, a cutting or scraping tool is run down the inside of the liner to remove the closed end of each plug projecting into the liner, thus opening the perforations in the liner. Reservoir fluids can be produced through the well around the outside of the liner while the liner is being placed.

REMOVAL O F H2S ALSO CONTAINING CO2

H Hunter Paalman, Denis Drapeau assigned to The Dow Chemical Company Essentially all of the H2S in steam which also contains up to 30 ppmw of CO2 per ppmw of H2S can be scrubbed from the steam with aqueous NaOH or Na2CO3 without consuming more than about 4 mols of N a O H or 2 mols of Na2CO3 per mol of H2S and without consuming more than about 0.18 pounds of water per pound of steam scrubbed, if (1) the steam is scrubbed countercurrently in a tower containing a contacting means equivalent to at least 6 theoretical stages, (2) the sulfide species in the tower effluent are completely oxidized to sulfo species and (3) the oxidized effluent-less a bleed stream and plus water and base makeup-is recycled to the tower. If the steam is scrubbed in this manner before being introduced to the turbines in a power plant, the exhaust from the turbines can be vented to the atmosphere without further treatment. The method of the invention is particularly suited for use at the Geysers geothermal steam field in California.
