What is Bottle Pozz?

How is Bottle Pozz Made?

The process starts with 100% post consumer bottle glass which is run through a crusher to initially size the glass.

60 Million tons of glass is land filled annually.

How is Bottle Pozz Made?

The glass is then processed through a rotary kiln. The kiln burns off contaminates such as sugar and paper rendering the glass sterile with a very low loss on ignition (typically less than .5%).

How is Bottle Pozz Made?

The clean, reduced sized glass is then run through a finishing mill to produce an end product with an off-white color and a size similar to Portland Cement.

How is Bottle Pozz Made?

When powder glass is used as a supplementary material, there is a concern that the sodium content of glass is too high and would compromise the quality of cement. The powder glass does have a total equivalent alkali content of 10.7%, but these are bound-like alkalis within the glass. Only 0.23% equivalent acid soluble alkalis or only 0.6% available alkalis means that the alkalis in glass are essentially acid insoluble and virtually non-reactive.

How does Bottle Pozz Work?

An interesting thing happens to glass as the particle size gets smaller. It no longer causes ASR (Alkali, Silica, Reactivity), it prevents it and it makes the concrete stronger.

Bottle Glass imparts additional calcium silicate in hardened concrete through reactivity with lime produced during cement hydration.
