When speed and certainty are important

Whether you need your shipment delivered before the start, middle or end of the working day, DHLs wide range of time definite
services are designed to cater for all your Express delivery requirements.
DHL EXPRESS WORLDWIDE is our most popular service and offers delivery from the UK to more than 220 countries and
territories worldwide by the end of the next possible working day. When you need your shipment delivered earlier, choose DHL
EXPRESS 12:00 for delivery before midday or, when it really has to be there as early as possible, choose DHL EXPRESS 9:00 for
delivery as the working day begins.
All of these services are also available for imports, allowing you to take control of your shipping costs and remove the
uncertainty of currency fluctuations by being invoiced in the UK. You can even arrange Third Country shipments for example,
between France and China and still be billed in the UK. When you need to send shipments within the UK, DHL DOMESTIC
EXPRESS provides next working day delivery to 98% of UK businesses and, as with our international services, pre-9:00 and
pre-12:00 services are also available when an earlier delivery is required.
Whichever service you choose, you can be assured that your shipment will be secure in our door-to-door network and will be
delivered safely and on time to its final destination.
US Next Day
If you are shipping to the USA, you may be able to take
advantage of our US Next Day service. Available from
selected UK postcodes, your shipment is collected earlier in
the day so that it can connect with an earlier flight.
Travelling through the night, your shipment arrives at our
Cincinnati hub one day earlier than our regular service to
the USA, enabling delivery later the same day.
Example:
A shipment sent from London to Washington DC on
a Monday would arrive on Wednesday with our
regular service. If the same shipment is sent using
our US Next Day service, it will arrive on Tuesday.
Whats more, there is no additional charge for this
service you get a faster delivery to the USA for the
same price as our regular service.

CALCULATING THE PRICE OF YOUR SHIPMENT
How do I work out the price?

Just follow these simple steps to work out how much your next shipment with DHL will cost, whichever service you decide to use.

Determine the weight of your shipment in kg.

If your shipment is large and lightweight, you
will also need to calculate its volumetric weight
(see page 15).
Determine which zone your origin or
destination country is in. Please refer to the
tables on pages 16-17, or find your country on our
easy reference map on pages 18-19.
Example:
If you are sending a document to the USA using the
DHL EXPRESS WORLDWIDE service (given as Zone 6 on
page 22) which weighs 1kg, go to 1 in the kg column in
the pricing table on page 22 and read across to Zone 6 to
find the basic cost for the shipment, which is 42.85.
*In addition to the quoted price a 5.00 booking fee is payable by non-DHL account holders.

Volumetric weight
Sometimes you may need to send a package that weighs very little but takes up a lot of space for example, a small but
valuable item surrounded by lots of packaging. In this case you should check whether the volumetric weight of the
package is greater than the actual weight, as the price you pay will always reflect the greater of the two, known as the
chargeable weight.
If you are sending a shipment that contains a single package, calculate the volumetric weight by multiplying the
length (cm) x height (cm) x width (cm), then dividing the result by 5,000.
The volumetric conversion factor of 5,000 applies to both time definite and day definite services.
Example:
You are sending a package that weighs 8kg with
dimensions of 40cm x 30cm x 50cm.
The volumetric weight would be:

GLOBALMAIL BUSINESS is ideal for paper based products

and low value goods up to a maximum weight of 2kg. We
can pick up all types of International Mail and Packets and
deliver to any international postal address around the world
(terms and conditions apply).
During your regular pick up, the DHL Express courier will
collect your unsorted international mail. DHL GLOBALMAIL
will then process the mail for final delivery by the Overseas
Postal Provider.

Improving carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020

We have drawn up an ambitious plan: We aim to improve the
carbon efficiency of our own activities and those of our
subcontractors by 30% by 2020, compared to 2007. This
means that for every document sent, every parcel shipped,
every tonne of freight transported and every square metre of
warehouse space used, we want to reduce carbon emissions
by 30%.
To achieve our goal, we are focusing on the key areas where
we can make a difference. This ranges from local initiatives at
individual sites to reduce waste, water and energy
consumption to broader initiatives covering our entire global
network, such as investing in new generations of more
fuel-efficient aircraft that generate less nitrogen oxide. For
example, the Boeing 767 Extended Range Freighter (ERF)
aircraft we use for our transatlantic express services are
among the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft
in their class.

GOGREEN Carbon Neutral
And the price?
After a simple set up at the start, GOGREEN Carbon Neutral

becomes the default setting in your shipping profile. Every
shipment that you send on the account numbers you
nominate will contribute towards fighting climate change and
making your own business more carbon efficient.
The price is based on a standard cost per kilo, subject to a

minimum charge per shipment.
A GOGREEN Carbon Neutral shipment is the same as any

other, but we make a corresponding contribution to the
environment that neutralises its carbon dioxide emissions.
So, if your shipment is responsible for emitting 49kg of
CO2, we will offset at least this same amount by purchasing
carbon credits in a certified carbon reduction project. We only
purchase carbon credits from projects that are officially
recognised as complying with the highest international
standards, such as those run by UNFCCC, Gold Standard (GS)
or Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS).

GOGREEN Carbon Footprint

A new service for 2012, GOGREEN Carbon Footprint is ideal
for customers who want to manage their own carbon
emissions. Emissions are calculated using the same method as
GOGREEN Carbon Neutral and a detailed report is provided
once each quarter, as well as annually, to provide complete
transparency over the CO2, generated from your shipping
volumes with DHL Express.
The annual fee for this service is 2,250.
GOGREEN Carbon Estimate

This service is intended for customers requiring a less detailed
calculation of emissions. GOGREEN Carbon Estimate provides
a high level calculation of emissions by applying average
carbon emission factors to a customers shipping data.
The result is a one-off report for a three month period in the
past and the fee for this service is 225.
Additional Services
The whole process, from a calculation of CO2 to the precise

off-setting of that CO2, is verified annually by Socit Gnrale
de Surveillance (SGS), an independent body accredited by the
World bank to verify greenhouse gas reduction projects.
All GOGREEN Carbon Neutral customers receive an annual
certificate that is verified by SGS, stating the total amount of
carbon dioxide offset during the year.

Every shipment requires a consignment note or label, known as a Waybill. This is an address and information label used to
identify your shipment, and it contains a unique tracking number that you can use to monitor the progress of your shipment.
DHL packaging
DHL Express offers its customers a range of DHL branded
packaging items. These items are available free of charge and
include document envelopes, flyer bags and small boxes.
A range of premium DHL branded packaging items is also
available, such as larger boxes and triangular tubes, and we
also offer industry-specific packaging for specialist shipping
requirements. A charge is made for these items.

Top 10 packaging tips
What you cant send
DHL is committed to delivering your shipments with speed

and care. Here are some helpful packaging tips to ensure your
shipment passes smoothly and securely through our network.
DHL Express has significant experience in carrying approved

Dangerous Goods, however, certain items within DHL Express
are deemed to be Restricted or Prohibited. Please contact
your Account manager should you wish for DHL to carry any
of the items listed below:
If you are re-using envelopes or boxes, please

ensure that old labels and markings are removed.
Securely affix the Waybill to the shipment.

The Waybill can be thought of as the shipments
passport and it must remain attached as your
shipment travels through our network.
The barcode on the Waybill is scanned at

numerous points during your shipments journey.
Please ensure the barcode is flat and not covered
by tape, shrink wrap or strapping.
If you are using a manual Waybill, please ensure
you have provided all of the required information
and that your handwriting is legible. Use a black
ball point pen and press firmly so that all four
copies are clear.
Place the Waybill on the side or top of your
shipment and please ensure it does not overlap
the corners or edges of boxes.
Use adequate protective wrapping for fragile or

delicate items and ensure they are packed as far
away as possible from the corners of boxes.
Ensure the box used is suitable for the weight

of the contents.
To prevent injury to our staff, please pay special

attention to the packaging of sharp items. There
should be no possibility of the contents piercing
the packaging.
Any individual pieces over 70kg should be

placed on a pallet.

If you are sending a multi-piece shipment,

it is not necessary to palletise the shipment
unless the individual pieces exceed 70kg.

DHL Dangerous Goods Capabilities

There are five specific categories of dangerous goods that
have been approved for carriage to specific countries on
DHLs Express network, these are the following:
Dry Ice UN1845 as a packaging supplement

Dangerous Goods in Excepted Quantities
Excepted Lithium ion/metal batteries
Biological Substance Category B UN3373
Dangerous Goods in Limited Quantities by Road / Sea
In all cases the customer / shipper must be audited and

approved by the Restricted Commodities Group to utilise
these services. Please contact your Account Manager to
make arrangements.
It is the shippers responsibility to ensure all shipments
containing dangerous goods are classified, marked, labelled
and accompanied with the correct documentation in
compliance with relevant mode of transport regulations.

How can I track my shipment?

For your convenience, DHL offers several methods of tracking a shipment using your Waybill or shipment number.
It is recommended that the senders copy be kept on file until delivery is made.
Web solutions
Check your shipment status simply by entering your
Waybill number in the Track your Shipment box on the
homepage of www.dhl.co.uk/express Enter your
email or phone number to receive notification up until
the shipment is delivered.
If you regularly send multiple piece shipments you
may wish to sign up for Shipment Notifications.
You can receive pro-active delivery notification about
every shipments progress by either email or text
message. Just visit https://proview.dhl.com for
more details and to register.
Email
Send an email to track@dhl.com entering your
Waybill number in the subject field.
Text Messaging
Simply send a text message with your Waybill
number to 07720 334 455 DHL will text you back
with the latest information on your shipment.

e-Billing safe, secure and greener invoicing

The benefits to you as a customer include:
Paperless Transactions: When an e-invoice has been

raised an email is sent to you with the invoice
attached as a PDF and containing the web link to the
e-Billing website where you can view and download
your invoice, there is no need for a paper invoice, saving
paper and helping the environment.
Receiving Multiple Formats: E-invoices can be
downloaded in a variety of formats including HTML,
XML, PDF (ideal for printing or sending as an
attachment) and CSV (for importing into a spreadsheet
such as Excel). This facility avoids the need to type
invoice data manually into your finance system, saving
time and eliminating errors. The Enhanced Search
Download function allows you to customise and
consolidate multiple CSV files. If you have any questions
or require additional information please contact your
Account Manager.
Online History Search: Your e-invoices are online
for 12 months, so you can quickly search and find an
invoice in a matter of seconds no more wasted time
searching through filing cabinets or chasing copies.
Register invoice enquiries online: If you have a query
regarding your shipment, this can be logged online.
To do this, simply click the Query button, select the
relevant code and enter the necessary details.
Waybill Retrieval: Waybill images are available to view
online, making it easier for you to review and validate
your invoices. Simply click on the hyperlink for the
Waybill to view the image.
