SAP Note 98252 - Installing two Oracle databases on a host

Note Language: English Version: 15 Validity:
Valid Since 11.12.2003

Summary
Symptom
The files listener.ora and tnsnames.ora must be adjusted because two SAP systems (and therefore two ORACLE databases) were installed on the same host.

Other terms
listener.ora, tnsnames.ora netv2 oraInst.loc

Reason and Prerequisites
You installed two ORACLE databases on a host.

Solution Preliminary remarks
The files listener.ora and tnsnames.ora must be supplemented after the installation to ensure both SAP systems operate. If you want to install two Oracle instances with Release 8.1.x on a single host, adapt the file oraInst.loc before the installation of the second instance. If both SAP systems are on R/3 Release 3.0/3.1 and you have a 3.0/3.1 installation package, you can carry out the configuration by means of program netv2 as described in the installation guide. If one of the systems (or both) is on Release 4.x or higher, proceed as described in this note. By way of example, the two SAP systems are referred to as C11 and C12 in the rest of this note. C11 is based on SAP Basis with Release 4.x or higher, C12 is based on SAP Basis with Release 3.0, 3.1, 4.x or higher. (SAP Basis is named SAP Web Application Server as of SAP Web AS 6.20.)

STEPS BEFORE INSTALLING THE SECOND INSTANCE
1. Changes in oraInst.loc (to be performed before installation of the second instance) If you want to install two Oracle instances with Release 8.1.x or higher on a single host, adapt the file oraInst.loc according to SAP Note 350251 before the installation of the second instance.

STEPS AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW INSTANCE
2. Changes in listener.ora In order that both ORACLE users (orac11 and orac12) can start the listener process, the two databases must be entered in both listener.ora files. Edit the following file as shown below: Oracle 8.0.x: /oracle/C11/network/admin/listener.ora
